You should take note to see if the audio you are trying to process contains any files or fades that short. If so, please call into Tech support, please make note of the drive you’re recording to and what drivers it has on it.There are some other things that can cause this to happen, most commonly, hard disk drivers. This especially could be the case if you’re using FireWire drives and the drivers that came with it. If FireWire drives are being used make sure you use the Apple disk drivers as opposed to anything else. Not only could they cause crashes on AudioSuite functions but also on playback\/record and disk mounting. Do a search for FireWire drivers for more info on how to initialize your FireWire drive with Apple drivers.RAM allocations may affect this… Be sure to allocate more RAM to the preferred memory settings of DAE and Pro Tools and NOT the “minimum”. Leave the minimum at it’s default setting! In most cases 80 to 90 MB allocated to each is enough but if you are running large sessions you may need to bump it even higher. I rarely have seen a situation that needs to go higher than 150MB each. If you’re going to increase the RAM be sure you have enough RAM in the system left over for the Mac OS (if you don’t this could cause crashes too).General drive problems may cause these symptoms as well, such as: missing or bad SCSI termination, cabling problems, drives that need to be initialized, etc. Also make sure you’re “disk cache” setting in the memory control panel is set to 512k. If it is set to another value set it to 512k and reboot the computer. Also make sure the latest version of the normalize, gain, duplicate, etc. plug-ins are installed in your system. Check the Pro Tools installer for the latest versions of each for the version of Pro Tools you are using.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"featured_media":0,"template":"","categories":[],"tags":[],"storecat":[],"itemids":[],"manufacturers":[33300],"acf":[],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v17.9 - https:\/\/yoast.com\/wordpress\/plugins\/seo\/ -->\n<meta name=\"description\" content=\"Check out the Pro Tools crashes (Mac OS type 2 or 3 error) while a session is playing back and attempting to process a region with an AudioSuite plug-in (Gain, Normalize). page at Sweetwater \u2014 the world's leading music technology and instrument retailer!\" \/>\n<meta name=\"robots\" content=\"index, follow, max-snippet:-1, max-image-preview:large, max-video-preview:-1\" \/>\n<link rel=\"canonical\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/pro-tools-crashes-mac-os-type-2-3-error\/\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:locale\" content=\"en_US\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:type\" content=\"article\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:title\" content=\"Pro Tools crashes (Mac OS type 2 or 3 error) while a session is playing back and attempting to process a region with an AudioSuite plug-in (Gain, Normalize). - SweetCare\" \/>\n<meta property=\"og:description\" content=\"There are a few things that could cause this including: RAM allocations, hard disk drivers, and drive problems. We’ve seen a similar problem recently where AudioSuite functions applied to file(s) that are shorter than 39 ms or so will cause a crash.
