The Macintosh-to-USD serial cable supplied with every USD is unusual only in its length (12 feet, most “standard” cables are 8 – 10 feet). In all other respects, it is a standard cable.Be aware that there are TWO kinds of “standard” miniDIN8-to-miniDIN8 cables! One kind, the kind we use, is referred to in the Apple literature as the “Apple System Peripheral-8 Cable,” also sometimes called the “ImageWriter II” cable. It is a “null-modem” style cable, in which there is not a one-to-one correspondence between pins on one end and pins on the other end. (A wiring guide for this cable is given below.)The other kind of cable is commonly referred to as a “straight through” or “switch box” cable, where there is a one-to-one correspondence between pin numbers on both ends.
