After it\u2019s registered, you will gain access to the software necessary for the controller to work correctly. Keep your Sweetwater invoice handy; you\u2019ll need to enter some information during registration!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Log in to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pioneerdj.com\/en-us\/account\/login\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pioneer DJ account<\/a>. If you don\u2019t have one yet, then <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pioneerdj.com\/en-us\/account\/register\/?relPath=en-us%2Faccount%2F#0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">create it here<\/a>.<\/li><li>Once you\u2019re logged in, click your name at the top-right corner of the page, and click the blue <strong>Register Product<\/strong> box.<\/li><li>In the <em>Product Name<\/em> field, type, then select the SLAB.<\/li><li>Enter the serial number located on the bottom of the unit along with the purchase date and the place of purchase. Running on the latest firmware ensures optimal performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect the SLAB to your computer and launch Serato Studio. You will receive a notification if new firmware is available.<\/li><li>Click \u201c<strong>Visit Download Page<\/strong>\u201d and get the latest version for your OS.<ul><li>You can also go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/support.pioneerdj.com\/hc\/en-us\/sections\/52432440713881-Firmware-Update\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">SLAB download page<\/a> to download the firmware file.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Unzip the firmware file in your Downloads folder.<\/li><li>Disconnect the SLAB from your computer.<\/li><li>Press and hold the <strong>Shift <\/strong>and <strong>Record <\/strong>pads while reconnecting the SLAB to your computer. Within those sections are pads or encoders that control the behavior of the controller and the software.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The Transport section is straightforward. This is where you will control the playback, library, and scrubbing functions.<\/li><li>The 16 performance pads control the functions set by one of the four <em>Pad Mode<\/em> pads above (Trigger Mode, Piano Mode, Deck Select, Scene Select).<ul><li>Hold <strong>SHIFT <\/strong>and press a pad to access its secondary settings.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>You can edit the EQ, stems, effects, and parameters with the encoders. Press the <strong>Encoder Mode <\/strong>pad to change what parameters the encoders control.<\/li><li>Use the factory-supplied USB-C cable! Using third-party cables may cause latency.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Use-the-SLAB-in-Serato-Studio\"><strong>How to Use the SLAB in Serato Studio<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can control almost everything in Serato Studio directly from the SLAB, so creating a song is straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Create-a-Beat\">Create a Beat<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Creating a beat is as simple as adding a scene, loading a kit, and pressing <strong>Record<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press <strong>Trigger Mode<\/strong>, press <strong>Library<\/strong>, then use the jog wheel or <strong>&lt; <\/strong>and <strong>> <\/strong>arrows to navigate to <em>Drums<\/em> in Serato Sample. Press the jog wheel over the selected kit to load it into the project.<\/li><li>Press <strong>Record <\/strong>to start recording. If you wish for the pattern to be longer, then press <strong>Scene Size<\/strong>.<ul><li>If you press <strong>Scene Size <\/strong>after recording, then the current pattern will be copied.<\/li><li>To add note repeat (<em>e.g.<\/em>, triplet, 16th note) hold <strong>Note Repeat <\/strong>while performing<strong>. <\/strong>Use the first encoder to change the note repeat rate.<\/li><li>To add groove, enter Sequencer (<strong>SHIFT<\/strong> + <strong>Piano Mode<\/strong>), press and hold the pad(s) in the pattern you want to adjust, and use the main knob to nudge the note forward or backward.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Hold <strong>Scene Select<\/strong> and press an empty pad to add a new Scene.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Generate a Random Pattern<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Hold <strong>SHIFT<\/strong> and press <strong>Auto Set<\/strong> to select the genre of the pattern you wish to create. Once selected, press <strong>Auto Set <\/strong>to create a random pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can clear the pattern at any time by holding <strong>SHIFT <\/strong>and pressing <strong>Delete<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Working-with-Samples\">Working with Samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with samples in Serato Studio using the SLAB is easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Hold <strong>Scene Select <\/strong>and press an empty pad to create a new scene.<\/li><li>Press <strong>Library<\/strong>, then use the jog wheel or <strong>&lt; <\/strong>and <strong>&gt; <\/strong>arrows to navigate to <em>Audio Samples<\/em> in Serato Sample. Hover over the sound to preview and press the jog wheel to select it.<\/li><li>Once the sample is loaded, press <strong>Auto Set<\/strong> to create the cue points. You can delete cue points by holding <strong>Delete <\/strong>and pressing the cue point.<\/li><li>Press <strong>Record <\/strong>and start performing.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Stem-Separation\">Stem Separation<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One great feature of the AlphaTheta SLAB is stem separation.
