If this is your first time setting up your interface, you first must <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/where-can-i-download-the-driver-for-my-interface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">download its driver<\/a> beforehand (if applicable). Once the driver is installed, you can then connect it to your computer and set it as the primary audio device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>On the Fender Studio Pro <em>Start <\/em>page, click the box underneath the <strong>audio interface<\/strong> icon to open the <em>Audio Setup <\/em>menu.<ul><li>Alternatively, click <strong>Configure Audio Device<\/strong>, then click the <strong>Audio Setup<\/strong> tab.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>In the <em>Audio Setup<\/em> window, choose the interface you\u2019re using from the drop-down menu.<\/li><li>If you need to update the interface buffer size, click <strong>Control Panel <\/strong>to open the interface\u2019s driver software options.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Is your audio interface not showing up?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If your audio interface isn\u2019t showing up in the Audio Setup window of Fender Studio Pro, be sure that you\u2019ve installed the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/where-can-i-download-the-driver-for-my-interface\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">latest drivers<\/a> for your interface. You can create a song from scratch, but Fender has also included project templates that include audio tracks, buses, effects, and more to help you get up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you own a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/search?s=fender+audio+interface&amp;Brand=Fender+Studio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Fender Studio<\/a> or PreSonus audio interface or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c265--PreSonus--Digital_Mixers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">digital mixer<\/a>, you can create a project that automatically routes all channels. This will take you to the Audio Input and Output page.<\/li><li>Select the Audio I\/O Setup tab, update your routing, then click the Make Default button in the lower left of the window and confirm the pop-up window.<ol><li>All new songs will now have this configuration for input and output mapping.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Need to update the routing in an existing song?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ever need to update the routing of an old song to match that of your new audio I\/O configuration, you can also do so from the Song Setup menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Open the project file you wish to change the routing.<\/li><li>Click <strong>Session <\/strong>at the top taskbar and then click <strong>Session Setup<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Click the Reset to Default button in the lower-left of the window and confirm the pop-up window.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Create-and-Record-Audio-Tracks\">Create and Record Audio Tracks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After you select your interface and the routing has been updated, it\u2019s time to create an audio track. You simply need to create a stereo or mono track, update its settings, and start recording.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Right-click the left side of the window and then choose <strong>Add Tracks&#8230;<\/strong><ul><li>Alternatively, press <strong>T <\/strong>on your keyboard to open the <em>Add Tracks <\/em>menu.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Update the track name, set the <em>Type <\/em>to Audio, and update the remaining settings, such as routing. Then, click <strong>OK<\/strong>.<ul><li>When the <em>Auto-Color <\/em>box is checked, it will automatically assign different colors to tracks you create.<\/li><li>Use the <em>FX Chain <\/em>dropdown box to choose a factory preset FX chain for your track.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Click the <strong>Record <\/strong>button on the track to record arm the track, then click the <strong>Record <\/strong>button on the transport panel to start recording. You can also use the * key on your keyboard to start and stop recording.<ul><li>To listen to yourself while recording, click the <strong>Speaker <\/strong>icon. This is known as input monitoring.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Inserting-Audio-Effects-Plug-ins\">Inserting Audio Effects Plug-ins<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to add an audio effect plug-in to your audio track, click the <strong>Effects <\/strong>tab on the right-hand side of your project window. You may need to update its settings, however. You can enable and update MIDI device settings within the <em>External Devices <\/em>menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Navigate to <strong>Studio Pro<\/strong> in the top toolbar, then select <strong>Options<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Click <strong>External Devices<\/strong> and then click <strong>Add<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In the window that appears, click <strong>Add Keyboard<\/strong> or look for your MIDI controller in the vendor folder directly below. Lastly, change the <em>Receive From<\/em> and <em>Send To<\/em> from None to your MIDI controller by clicking the drop-down box.<\/li><li>Press a key\/pad on your MIDI device and look at the MIDI Monitor on the bottom left side of the screen to make sure that it\u2019s triggering correctly.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2026\/01\/Fender-Studio-Pro-External-devices-menu.jpg\" alt=\"Fender Studio Pro MIDI devices menu\" class=\"wp-image-1788745\" width=\"339\" height=\"466\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2026\/01\/Fender-Studio-Pro-External-devices-menu.jpg 677w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2026\/01\/Fender-Studio-Pro-External-devices-menu-218x300.jpg 218w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 339px) 100vw, 339px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Fender Studio Pro MIDI Devices menu<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Create-and-Record-MIDI-Tracks\">Create and Record MIDI Tracks<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>To trigger virtual instruments or external synths in Fender Studio Pro, you need MIDI data. You can draw MIDI notes using the piano roll, as well as with your MIDI device. To record or draw MIDI data in Fender Studio Pro, you will create an Instrument track.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One great thing about Studio Pro is that both audio and MIDI data are on the same track, which means you don\u2019t have to route it to an Aux bus or audio track. This means that you can convert the Instrument track to audio while preserving the MIDI data simultaneously. Because of this, you don\u2019t need to create a new audio track each time you need to edit any of the MIDI data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few ways to create an Instrument track. Either by dragging a virtual instrument to the track section or by creating an empty one. Creating an empty instrument track is especially useful if you use external synthesizers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Virtual-Instrument\">Virtual Instrument<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Find your virtual instrument in the Browser section, then click and drag it to the track area.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Record <\/strong>button to arm the track, then press the <strong>Record <\/strong>button on the transport panel to begin recording. You can also press the * key on your keyboard to start and stop recording.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"MIDI\">MIDI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Navigate to Track on the upper toolbar, then click Add Instrument Track.<\/li><li>If you want to add multiple Instrument tracks at once, press the T key on your keyboard, use the dropdown box, select Instrument, then update the number of Instrument tracks you want to add.<\/li><li>Press the Record button to arm the track, then press the Record button on the transport panel to begin recording. You can also press the * key on your keyboard to start and stop recording.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Load-Effects-Plug-ins-and-Virtual-Instruments-in-Fender-Studio-Pro\">How to Load Effects Plug-ins and Virtual Instruments in Fender Studio Pro<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>Fender Studio Pro does not support 32-bit plug-ins. Make sure you have the 64-bit version installed, or else it will not load!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To apply an effect or instrument to a track, you need to insert it as a plug-in. Plug-ins come in many different file formats, and for Fender Studio Pro, you can use AU and VST3 plug-in formats. When you first install a plug-in, be sure to note the file location where it\u2019s installed, as you will need to add this folder path to Studio Pro\u2019s plug-in scan list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Navigate to <em>Studio Pro<\/em> in the top toolbar, click <strong>Options<\/strong>, then click the <strong>Locations <\/strong>button.<\/li><li>Go to the <strong>VST Plug-Ins<\/strong> tab, click <strong>Add<\/strong>, then navigate to the folder where your plug-ins are installed. Once you\u2019ve done that, click <strong>OK<\/strong>, then restart Fender Studio Pro.<ul><li>If you already have a song loaded, right-click anywhere in the Browser window and click refresh.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>My plug-in isn\u2019t showing up!<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you receive an error when launching Fender Studio Pro or if it\u2019s not listed in the Effects or Instruments tab in the <em>Browser <\/em>window, here are a few things you can try.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Click the<strong> Plug-In Manager<\/strong> button at the bottom of the <strong>Browser <\/strong>section to pull up the Project Manager window.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Next, if the plug-in appears in the Blocklist (found in the<em> VST Plug-ins <\/em>menu), click <strong>Reset Blocklist<\/strong>. If it shows up in the plug-ins window, ensure it\u2019s turned on, indicated by the white circle.<\/li><li>Go to the <strong>VST Plug-Ins<\/strong> tab in <em>Locations <\/em>and verify that the plug-ins folder location is included in the Locations section of the window.<\/li><li>Make sure that the correct format of the plug-in is installed.
