If you are setting things up, this is a good time to update both the app and your Stadium firmware to the newest versions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On your Mac or Windows PC, download the newest version of the Helix Stadium app from the <a href=\"https:\/\/line6.com\/software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Line 6 Software Downloads page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Under \u201cChoose Hardware\u201d select \u201cHelix Stadium XL.\u201d Under \u201cChoose Software\u201d select \u201cHelix Stadium.\u201d In the third menu, select <strong>macOS<\/strong> or <strong>Windows<\/strong>. Click <strong>Go<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In the next page, you\u2019ll see the newest version of the <strong>Helix Stadium app<\/strong>. Read the notes and click <strong>Get Download<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Run the installer from your Downloads folder.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you have the newest version of the app on your computer, make sure your Stadium unit is running the newest firmware. If you are notified that new versions are available, Line 6 recommends that you update the app on the computer <strong>first<\/strong>, before you turn to your Stadium unit, log in to your Line 6 account, and update the firmware over Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Connect-the-Helix-Stadium-Hardware-to-the-App\">Connect the Helix Stadium Hardware to the App<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3>Comparing the Original Helix to the Helix Stadium<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The hardware units in the original Helix family use the <strong>HX Edit app<\/strong> on macOS or Windows, connected to the hardware over a USB data cable. The same USB cable also transmits digital audio to and from the computer and your DAW, enabling the Helix to work as an audio interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stadium system operates differently. The connection between your Stadium unit and the <strong>Helix Stadium app<\/strong> on your Mac or Windows computer is over Wi-Fi, not a USB cable. If you are also using Stadium as an audio interface to your computer, that\u2019s what the USB-C data cable is for, and the two functions are separate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Making the Connection with the Stadium<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Both the Stadium hardware and your computer have to be connected to the same Wi-Fi network to use the Helix Stadium app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Launch the Helix Stadium app.<\/li><li>Click the <strong>My Account icon <\/strong>and log in to your Line 6 account.<\/li><li>Click <strong>Connect<\/strong> to open the <strong>Connect to Devices<\/strong> dialog.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on how the Wi-Fi network you are using is set up, The Helix Stadium app may be able automatically to detect and connect to your Stadium hardware. For certain Wi-Fi configurations, however, you have to manually enter your Helix Stadium\u2019s network address into the app\u2019s connection dialog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to connect manually:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>On your Stadium\u2019s touch screen, tap the <strong>Menu<\/strong> icon in the upper left corner and then tap <strong>Wi-Fi<\/strong>. However, you\u2019ll see that there are USB-C, USB-A, and RJ-45 connections on the back of your Stadium unit. Let\u2019s take a minute to explain what they are used for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>The exception: Firmware Updates<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There is one unusual situation where you can connect the Stadium unit to the Helix Stadium app over a USB-C data cable to your computer. That is for the alternative method for a firmware update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you can\u2019t get your Stadium unit to update its firmware over Wi-Fi, you can cable it to your Mac or Windows PC, where the Helix Stadium app can download the firmware update from the internet and upload it to your Stadium unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is covered in the <a href=\"https:\/\/manuals.line6.com\/en\/helix-stadium\/live\/device-firmware-updates-using-the-helix-stadium-ap\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Helix Stadium Owner\u2019s Manual &gt; The Helix Stadium Application &gt; Device Firmware Updates Using the Helix Stadium Application<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you update the firmware, you\u2019ll need to establish the Wi-Fi connection to use the Helix Stadium app to edit and manage presets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Using the Helix Stadium as an Audio Interface<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Stadium provides a multi-channel audio interface to your computer and your DAW. This is what the USB-C port on the Stadium is for.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are on Windows, you need to download and install the <a href=\"https:\/\/line6.com\/software\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Line 6 Helix Stadium ASIO<\/a> driver to use the USB audio connection. On macOS, the Stadium is class-compliant so no driver is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the <a href=\"https:\/\/manuals.line6.com\/en\/helix-stadium\/live\/usb-audio\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Helix Stadium Owner\u2019s Manual &gt; Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth &gt; USB Audio<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Other Helix Stadium Digital Connections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Line 6 Nexus<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll notice that the Helix Stadium has an RJ-45 port for a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable. You might be tempted to think that this is an Ethernet connection that you could use to connect your Stadium to your computer or your network router. However, it isn\u2019t. This is the proprietary Line 6 Nexus port which will work with the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/ExpandD10--line-6-expand-d10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Line 6 Expand D10<\/a> unit to interface gear such as Variax, ADAT audio, and Powercab speakers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Ethernet<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a means for an Ethernet connection, but it\u2019s not obvious. The owner\u2019s manual explains that if you are unable to connect your Stadium unit to Wi-Fi, but you have a router connected to the internet, you can set up your Stadium to use Ethernet. This requires a third-party Ethernet-to-USB-A adapter dongle to connect a Cat 5e or Cat 6 cable to the Stadium\u2019s USB-A port (not the USB-C port).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Under the Menu on the touch screen of the Stadium, there\u2019s a section for configuring Ethernet, but using it requires you have the proper dongle and cable connection hooked up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to do this, learn more in the <a href=\"https:\/\/manuals.line6.com\/en\/helix-stadium\/live\/wifi-bluetooth-and-ethernet-connectivity#To-Connect-to-a-Network-Using-Ethernet\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Helix Stadium Owner\u2019s Manual &gt; Wi-Fi, Ethernet, and Bluetooth &gt;To Connect to a Network Using Ethernet<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>S\/PDIF<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Above the microSD card reader are two RCA jacks. These provide a digital connection with audio interfaces and other studio equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>MIDI<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Standard 5-pin DIN MIDI ports enable you to send and receive Program Change
