With Firmware V1.5.1 and above, Hotone has dramatically improved the features and performance of this unit. Here\u2019s how to install the newest firmware and get started with great guitar and vocal tones and effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong><a href=\"#Ampero-II-Stage-Firmware-V1.5.1\">Ampero II Stage Firmware V1.5.1<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Download-the-Manuals\">Download the Manuals<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Ampero-II-Stage-Setup-&amp;-Connections\">Ampero II Stage Setup &amp; Connections<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Using-Your-Hotone-Ampero-II-Stage\">Using Your Hotone Ampero II Stage<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Suggested-Setups\">Suggested Setups<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Ampero-II-Apps\">Ampero II Apps<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Ampero-II-Stage-Firmware-V1.5.1\"><strong>Ampero II Stage Firmware V1.5.1<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>On November 3, 2025, Hotone released Ampero II Stage firmware V1.5.1, a free update that unlocks the unit\u2019s wireless network capability, a feature that was not implemented on the unit\u2019s release.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you install the update, you can now connect the Ampero II Stage unit to your local wireless network. You can log into your account with the Hotone Community directly on the Ampero II Stage unit to download new presets and Sound Clone tones and back up and restore your data to the cloud without needing to connect your unit to a computer as before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have updated your unit to V1.5.1, the unit will check for future firmware updates and prompt you to install them when it\u2019s connected wirelessly to the internet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can still use the <strong>Ampero II editor app<\/strong> and <strong>Sound Clone app<\/strong> on Mac or Windows PC via USB connection to your unit, and you can still use the <strong>Ampero II Stage app<\/strong> on your iPhone or Android device over Bluetooth. After you connect a condenser microphone to the combi jack, you can turn on 48V phantom power using the&nbsp;<strong>Global &gt; I\/O<\/strong>&nbsp;function on the display screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Stereo FX Loop<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect 1\/4-inch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/tip-ring-sleeve-trs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TRS<\/a> cables for unbalanced stereo connections, Send and Return. Use the <strong>L (Mono) <\/strong>connection for mono and connect a second cable to the <strong>R<\/strong> jack for stereo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, there are balanced XLR connections for mono and stereo output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Aux In &amp; Phones<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>For auxiliary audio input, connect a 1\/8-inch TRS cable from your device to the <strong>Aux In<\/strong> jack. Use this for backing or practice tracks. The aux signal is passed to the outputs without going through the Ampero\u2019s signal processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect headphones to the <strong>Phones<\/strong> jack with a 1\/8-inch TRS connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>USB<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The <strong>USB-C <\/strong>port is for connecting to your Mac or Windows PC to use the Hotone Ampero II editor software, to update the firmware, and to use the Ampero as an 8-in, 8-out audio interface for recording to your computer and DAW.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the <strong>Ampero II Stage User<\/strong><strong> Manual &gt; Global &gt; USB Audio<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are on Windows, then you must first install the Hotone Windows audio driver from the Hotone website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ampero is class compliant on macOS, so no driver is needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>EXP\/CTRL<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use the two 1\/4-inch TRS<strong> EXP\/CTRL<\/strong> jacks to connect either:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An external expression pedal, such as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/AmperoIIPress--hotone-ampero-ii-press-passive-expression-and-switching-pedal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ampero II Press<\/a><\/li><li>A momentary footswitch controller, such as the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/AmperoSwtchP--hotone-ampero-switch-passive-dual-footswitch-controller\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Ampero Switch+<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Configure the functions of an expression pedal or a footswitch in the&nbsp;<strong>Global &gt; Controls<\/strong>&nbsp;menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>MIDI<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use 1\/8-inch TRS cables for<strong> MIDI In<\/strong> and <strong>Out<\/strong>. To connect to devices with 5-pin DIN connectors, use Type A 1\/8-inch TRS to 5-pin DIN MIDI adapters, sold separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Configure MIDI functions in the&nbsp;<strong>Global &gt; MIDI Settings<\/strong>&nbsp;menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Bluetooth<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Use Bluetooth to connect to the <strong>Ampero II Stage app<\/strong> for iPhone, iPad, and Android and to stream audio from your device to the unit. Learn more in the <strong>Ampero II Stage User Manual &gt; Global &gt; Bluetooth<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Wireless Internet Connectivity<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>With Firmware V1.5.1, your Ampero II Stage can connect directly to a 2.4GHz wireless access point. Make sure to save this card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start there and then consult the newest version of the <strong>Ampero II Stage User<\/strong><strong> Manual<\/strong> that you download from the Hotone website. The newest manual will detail features that have been added in firmware updates.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Terminology<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ampero II Stage provides two&nbsp;<strong>effects chains<\/strong>, A and B, which can be assigned to either of the unit\u2019s two inputs in parallel or routed serially.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Each effects chain is populated by&nbsp;<strong>effects slots<\/strong>, each of which can contain a different&nbsp;<strong>effects<\/strong><strong> <\/strong><strong>module<\/strong>. The Ampero II provides 14 different kinds of effects, and each module can contain multiple effects. Some modules perform signal-routing functions rather than providing effects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Nodes<\/strong>&nbsp;are the signal-routing connections between effects chains. Types of nodes include&nbsp;<strong>input<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>output<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>split<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>mixer<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the <strong>Ampero II Stage User<\/strong><strong> Manual &gt; Customizing Your Unit &gt; Effects Chain Types<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Effect List&nbsp;<\/strong>manual describes all the effects, amplifiers, and preamp and cabinet models and explains their parameters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An entire configuration of chains and modules is called a&nbsp;<strong>patch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A patch can contain multiple&nbsp;<strong>scenes<\/strong>, which are different parameter combinations, that turn different modules off and on. When you call up one patch, you can easily switch between scenes within the patch. In this way, you can call up variations on your sound without the signal interruptions or loss of reverb tails that you would have if you changed to a different patch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A set of several patches is called a&nbsp;<strong>bank<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Patch Mode &amp; Stomp Mode<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The user interface on the touchscreen has two modes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the upper-left corner of the touchscreen, you\u2019ll see a \u201c<strong>P<\/strong>\u201d for&nbsp;<strong>Patch Mode<\/strong>. Touch it, and it becomes an \u201c<strong>S<\/strong>,\u201d meaning you are in&nbsp;<strong>Stomp Mode<\/strong>. Touch it again to return to Patch Mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Start with Patch Mode. Use the footswitches to page between patches in the current bank and to move from bank to bank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In Stomp Mode, you can view the signal chain of each patch on the display screen and toggle individual effects on and off using the footswitches or the touchscreen. You can also edit parameters in this mode. Stomp Mode has two views,&nbsp;<strong>FX Chain View<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Footswitch View<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the <strong>Ampero II Stage User<\/strong><strong> Manual &gt; Unit Mode and Main Display<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Creating Patches &amp; DSP Power<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn how to edit, create, and save patches in the <strong>Ampero II Stage User<\/strong><strong> Manual &gt; Customizing Your Unit<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As you create your own patches and assign modules to slots in your chains, you will observe that your Ampero has a finite amount of power for digital signal processing. While the unit has enough power to create complex and detailed signal chains, you can exceed the amount of power available in a patch if you keep adding modules. When this happens, modules will be \u201cgrayed out,\u201d meaning they will not be available in the current patch. This is normal. With some experience, you\u2019ll learn how to efficiently organize your effects chain and to delete modules you\u2019re not actually using so that each patch will give you all the sounds you need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Hotone Sound Clone (Formerly Tone Catch)<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Sound Clone is what Hotone calls its feature that lets you create your own impulse responses (IRs) of your amplifier, your speaker cabinet, and your effects. (The previous version of this feature was called Tone Catch.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You\u2019ll see the acronyms CDCM HD (Comprehensive Dynamic Circuit Modeling High Definition) and FIRE (Field Impulse Response Enhancement); these are terms that Hotone uses to describe its modeling technology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you create a Clone, you can save it and use it in a module in your patches. You can also export it to the Ampero II app on your computer and share it on the Hotone Community webpage or upload it directly from your unit over the wireless connection. Likewise, you can find Clones on the Hotone Community page, download them, and install them on your unit. If you have files in the older Tone Catch format, then they will be automatically converted to the new Sound Clone format.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NAM (Neural Amp Modeler)<\/strong>&nbsp;files are also supported, dramatically expanding your options for amplifier and speaker profiles. The Ampero II desktop software and Ampero II Stage app can convert a NAM file that you download into the Sound Clone format, which you can then load into your Ampero II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn how to create your own Sound Clones in the <strong>Ampero II Stage User<\/strong><strong> Manual<\/strong><strong> &gt; Global &gt; Sound Clone<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also create Sound Clones on your computer with an audio interface and the <strong>Hotone Sound Clone app<\/strong> for Mac or Windows PC, which you can download and install from Hotone\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.soundclone.net\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">soundclone.net<\/a> community website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Factory Reset<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Tap the Settings gear icon on the home screen and then the System icon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tap <strong>About<\/strong> to display the firmware version<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have three reset options:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Reset global: Resets all global settings without affecting patches.<\/li><li>Reset patches: Reset patches A01-1 to A21-5 without affecting other data.<\/li><li>Reset all data: Deletes all user data and restores everything to the factory setting.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Suggested-Setups\"><strong>Suggested Setups<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Using with Your Instrument &amp; Amp<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you connect the Ampero\u2019s output to a guitar amplifier, disable the Ampero\u2019s amp and cab modules. If you are connecting the Ampero to your amplifier\u2019s effects loop, then add the FX SND\/RTN\/LOOP module to the signal chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Connecting to Your Amp\u2019s Return, Power Amp, or FRFR Cabinet Input<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect the Ampero\u2019s output to your amplifier\u2019s effects loop return input or power amp input.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Onstage Dual Outputs<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use both pairs of outputs simultaneously. For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Send the unit\u2019s Chain A signal path to the balanced XLR outputs to connect to a mixer or an audio interface.<\/li><li>Send the unit\u2019s Chain B signal path to the unbalanced outputs to connect to amplifiers with the amp and cab models disabled.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3><em>Singer Performing with Instruments<\/em><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect a microphone to the second input, routed to Chain A with vocal effects, for singing.
