To ensure a smooth sound from the beginning to the end of your set, calibrate the TR-1000 occasionally \u2014 especially when you first turn it on or if you haven\u2019t used it in a few days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>MENU <\/strong>button, turn the <strong>C6\/VALUE <\/strong>knob to <em>UTILITY<\/em>, then press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>C6\/VALUE <\/strong>knob to select <strong>CALIB<\/strong> and then press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"TR-1000-Patterns-Songs-and-Projects\">TR-1000 Patterns, Songs &amp; Projects<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before getting started, it\u2019s good to familiarize yourself with the TR-1000 terms and concepts. A <strong>Project <\/strong>stores everything including sound presets, songs, kits, and individual sounds and samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>A <strong>Project <\/strong>can contain up to 128 kits, 128 patterns, instruments, and songs. You can create up to 16 projects.<\/li><li><strong>Patterns <\/strong>are the beats, fills, and variations of the beats.<ul><li>Variations are a great way to lengthen the pattern and change the rhythm. This is particularly useful for spicing up hi-hat or kick patterns.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>A <strong>Song <\/strong>houses your patterns. You can have up to 16 patterns in a song and 16 songs in a project.<\/li><li><strong>Kits <\/strong>are a collection of up to 10 instruments or samples. Kits also store reverb, delay, and master effects settings. You can have 128 kits per project.<\/li><li><strong>Instruments <\/strong>consist of both <em>Layer<\/em> tracks and<em> Single<\/em> tracks. <em>Layer <\/em>tracks are assigned to the first four instruments (BD, SD, LT, HT), and the <em>Single <\/em>tracks are assigned to all others.<ul><li>As the name implies, layers consist of two sounds.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Create-a-Pattern\">How to Create a Pattern<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The TR-1000 has thousands(!) of user patterns available for you to work with. There are eight banks of 16 patterns, so all you need to do is choose the bank and pattern number and start creating!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press and hold the <strong>PTN SELECT <\/strong>key and then press step keys <strong>1\u20138 <\/strong>to select a bank.<\/li><li>Press any one of the 16 step keys to choose the pattern. Alternatively, use the <strong>C3\/SCROLL <\/strong>wheel.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Step-Record\">Step Record<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re familiar with drum machines, then you\u2019ll know what step recording is. If you\u2019re just starting out, then step recording involves manually entering each step. This is perfect for genres such as EDM in which the tempo is very precise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the instrument track you want to use then press <strong>TR-REC<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Press the track you wish to work with (<em>e.g.<\/em>, BD, SD) and then press the step buttons you want to trigger the instrument. To remove a step, press it again.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Live-Record\">Live Record<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also live record on the TR-1000. This is useful when you want to add a little movement to your beats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the instrument track you want to use then press <strong>INST REC<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Start performing. To <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/quantization\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">quantize<\/a> your performance, hold <strong>SHIFT <\/strong>and press <strong>INST REC<\/strong>. You will see \u201cQuantize On\u201d on the display.<ul><li>If you\u2019re not happy with the performance, then press and hold <strong>CLEAR <\/strong>while pressing the tracks you recorded.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Pattern Variations<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>On the left side of the TR-1000 are the <strong>A-H <\/strong>buttons. Those buttons are assigned to what are called Pattern Variations. There are additional patterns you can create that have different rhythms, motions, accents, etc.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To create a new Pattern Variation, press the letter (<strong>A-H<\/strong>) you wish to use then build your pattern.<\/li><li>Accents are unique to each pattern!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Record-and-Assign-Samples\">How to Record &amp; Assign Samples<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>A great feature of the TR-1000 is the ability to sample external audio, whether from an instrument or directly from your computer. You can even edit samples directly from the hardware, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect your instrument or computer to the TR-1000. If you\u2019re sampling computer audio, then make sure the driver is installed before you connect the device!<\/li><li>Press the <strong>SAMPLE <\/strong>button and use the <strong>C4 (Input)<\/strong>, <strong>C5 (Length)<\/strong>, and <strong>C6 (Trigger) <\/strong>to update the routing, sample length, and trigger type.<\/li><li>Recording will start with the <strong>Trigger (C6)<\/strong> option you selected. Recording will stop when the <strong>Length (C5)<\/strong> parameter you set is reached.<ul><li>For example, if you set the sample Trigger for <em>Inst Play <\/em>and the Length to <em>4<\/em>, then the recording will start as soon as you begin playing and will stop after four beats.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press the <strong>ENTER <\/strong>button when the sample editor appears, use the <strong>C3 <\/strong>knob to select <em>WRITE&amp;ASSIGN, <\/em>and then press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Press the track button you wish to assign the sample (<em>BD\u2013RC<\/em>), use the <strong>C3 <\/strong>knob to select <em>EXECUTE<\/em>, then press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Editing-Samples\">Editing Samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After you record samples, you can fine-tune them to fit your needs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Hold <strong>SHIFT <\/strong>and press <strong>SAMPLE <\/strong>to open the <em>Sample Edit <\/em>screen.<\/li><li>Use <strong>C1<\/strong>, <strong>C3<\/strong>, <strong>C5<\/strong>, and <strong>C6 <\/strong>to edit the sample parameters.<\/li><li>Once you\u2019re finished, press <strong>EXIT<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Layering-Samples\">Layering Samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The first four tracks (<strong>BD\u2013RT<\/strong>)can have two layers, allowing for two completely different samples to be triggered simultaneously.
