You do this by connecting your Anagram to your Mac or Windows PC using the included USB-C data cable and running the <strong>Darkglass Suite Desktop app<\/strong> that you download from the Darkglass website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Register your Purchase<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/mypedal.darkglass.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">mypedal.darkglass.com<\/a> and log in to your account, or create a new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the My Products page, click <strong>Register a new product<\/strong>. Select your product and enter its serial number, which is printed on the underside of the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Update-the-Firmware\">Update the Firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffcfd3\"><strong>CAUTION:<\/strong> Be patient during the firmware update process, which can take several minutes. Do not disconnect the power to your unit while the update is taking place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On your computer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.darkglass.com\/suite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">download and install the newest version of the Darkglass Suite Desktop app<\/a> for your version of Windows or macOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect your Anagram to power.<\/li><li>Launch the Darkglass Suite Desktop app on your computer.<\/li><li>Connect the USB-C cable.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>The Darkglass Suite app will recognize and connect to your device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the pane on the left, click <strong>Login<\/strong>. Log in to your Darkglass account with your user name and password.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>In the pane on the left, select <strong>Settings<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Under <strong>Device Settings<\/strong>, click on the <strong>Firmware version<\/strong>.<\/li><li>In the pane on the right, you\u2019ll see the current firmware version. Click on <strong>Check firmware update<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If there\u2019s a new firmware available, click <strong>Update now<\/strong> and follow the prompts to install it.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>Observe the messages on the Anagram&#8217;s display screen. After the message &#8220;please wait&#8221; your Anagram will reboot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Darkglass-Anagram-KosmOS-1.16\">Darkglass Anagram KosmOS 1.16<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Darkglass refers to their firmware as &#8220;KosmOS,&#8221; the operating system running inside the Anagram. To access the master volume, on the front panel, hold down the right-most rotary encoder knob labeled <strong>Master (hold)<\/strong>. When you plug it in, it will take a few seconds for the Anagram to boot up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Inputs and Outputs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Input<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect a regular 1\/4-inch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/ts\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TS<\/a> instrument cable from your bass.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Send (Insert)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this 1\/4-inch <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/tip-ring-sleeve-trs\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TRS<\/a> jack either as a stereo send (for an external effects loop) or a mono second-channel insert input (for stereo input together with the Input jack).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Return (exp)<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Use this 1\/4-inch TRS jack as a stereo return (together with the <strong>Send<\/strong> jack, for an external effects loop) or connect an expression pedal (not included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Configure settings for effects loop send and return and expression pedal in <strong>Device Settings<\/strong> on the touchscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Assign an expression pedal to specific parameters on effects blocks within each preset using the <strong>Expression Binding<\/strong> function on the touchscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Out 3\/L and Out 4\/R<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect to a bass amp using the<strong> Out 3\/L<\/strong> 1\/4-inch TS jack. Connect stereo output to a second amp with the<strong> Out 4\/R<\/strong> TS jack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Out 1\/L and Out 2\/R<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect to an audio interface or mixer using the balanced XLR <strong>Out 1\/L<\/strong> for a mono direct out, and the <strong>Out 2\/R<\/strong> jack for stereo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Headphones<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect headphones to the 1\/8-inch TRS jack. Control the headphone volume in the <strong>Mixer<\/strong> screen, as described above. The second encoder knob from the right is used to control the headphone volume in this screen.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>USB-C<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<h5>USB Power<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>You can power the Anagram by connecting a USB PD (power delivery) charger rated at 9-12V.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h5>USB Data<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect a USB-C data cable to your Mac or Windows PC for these functions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use the <a href=\"#Darkglass-Suite-Desktop-App\">Darkglass Suite Desktop App<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use the Anagram as an <a href=\"#Using-the-Anagram-as-an-Audio-Interface\">audio interface<\/a> to your DAW<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>MIDI<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect external MIDI devices using the 1\/8-inch TRS jacks labeled <strong>MIDI In<\/strong> and <strong>Out<\/strong>. You can connect devices with standard 5-pin DIN cable connections using <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/BMIDI535--boss-5ft-1.5m-midi-to-3.5mm-trs-cable\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Type-A MIDI adapters<\/a> (not included).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In firmware version 1.1, Anagram supports receiving MIDI program change messages to switch between Presets. Everything can be programmed by swiping, pressing and tapping, in conjunction with entering parameter values using the rotary encoder knobs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Rotary Encoder Knobs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The six <strong>rotary encoder knobs<\/strong> are also pushbuttons. Each takes on a different function depending upon the information displayed on each view on the touchscreen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Footswitches<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The three <strong>footswitches<\/strong> change function depending on the three modes, discussed below. The footswitches are used to engage the tuner, tap tempo, and looper, to move between presets and banks, to select different scenes with a preset, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Using-the-Darkglass-Anagram\">Using the Darkglass Anagram<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3>Preset Structure<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Anagram comes from the factory with five <strong>Banks<\/strong> of three <strong>Presets<\/strong> each, for a total of 18 presets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the unit can hold 42 banks of three presets each, for a total of 126 presets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can organize, edit and store banks of presets and load them into the Anagram using the Darkglass Suite Desktop app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An Anagram preset consists of either one signal <strong>chain<\/strong> of up to 12<strong> effects blocks<\/strong>, or two parallel chains of up to 12 blocks each. Presets with two signal chains can have split and merge functions to route signals from one chain to the other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Anagram Effects<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are more than 50 kinds of effects blocks, each with parameters you can adjust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Categories of effects blocks include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Amplifier models and speaker cabinet emulations<\/li><li>Overdrive and Distortion<\/li><li>Equalizers, Filters and Dynamics<\/li><li>Modulation and Pitch<\/li><li>Delays and Reverbs<\/li><li>Utilities and Loaders (input and output routings, signal path split and merge, effects loop send and return patch points, and more)<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Using the Touchscreen<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Swipe left or right to scroll the screen view to access additional parameters and functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For patches with two signal chains, swipe up to scroll down and view the lower chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Press and drag on an effects block to reorder it in the signal chain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Tap on an effects block to open it so you can adjust each of its parameters using the rotary encoder knobs. In this view you can also enable and disable a block, delete it, replace it with another block, and other functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Long-press on an effects block to start the mode where you can select multiple blocks at once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>The Three Modes<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>At the upper right of most screens is the mode selector. Tap it to toggle between <strong>Preset<\/strong>, <strong>Stomp<\/strong> and <strong>Scene<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Preset<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Within a bank, select one of its three presets using the three footswitches. Move down between banks by pressing<strong> Footswitch A<\/strong> and <strong>B<\/strong> together. Move up between banks by pressing <strong>B<\/strong> and <strong>C<\/strong> together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Stomp<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Within one preset, turn individual effects on and off using the three footswitches, according to the <strong>bindings<\/strong> assigned to them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Scene<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Within one preset, select three different pre-determined combinations of parameters, called <strong>scenes<\/strong>, using the footswitches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>The Three Views<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Chain<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For each preset, see the signal chain on the display screen, with icons for each effects block. Scroll down to see the second chain for presets that use it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Bindings<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>For each preset, view and edit which parameters will be controlled by which of the rotary encoder knobs, and which functions are assigned to the footswitches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Name<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>View the preset name and footswitch functions for the active mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Tuner\/Tap Tempo<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Press and hold <strong>Footswitch A<\/strong> to bring up the <strong>Tuner &amp; Tempo<\/strong> screen. You\u2019ve got a chromatic tuner at the ready. Use<strong> Footswitch C<\/strong> to enter a tap tempo for time-based effects. Press <strong>Footswitch A<\/strong> again to exit and return to your previous screen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Looper<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Press and hold <strong>Footswitch B<\/strong> to open the <strong>Looper<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the <strong>Darkglass Anagram Owner\u2019s Manual<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Mixer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Press and hold the <strong>Master (hold)<\/strong> rotary encoder to call up the <strong>Mixer<\/strong>, also known as the <strong>Master<\/strong> screen. Use the six rotary encoder knobs to set input and output levels, headphone level and master volume.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the touchscreen, swipe from right to left to bring up the <strong>Global EQ<\/strong>. Use the rotary encoders to set the levels of the six frequency bands. Select it.<\/li><li>You should receive a Bluetooth Pairing Request dialog with a number that\u2019s displayed on your device and on the Anagram\u2019s display. Click <strong>Pair<\/strong>.<\/li><li>On your Anagram, in the Bluetooth panel, under <strong>Audio Routing<\/strong>, you can select the routing for the incoming Bluetooth audio signal. If you wish to monitor the audio and play along to it, you can choose \u201cHeadphones\u201d or \u201cAll.\u201d<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>By default, the Anagram will boot up with Bluetooth disabled, so each time you start it up, you need to go to the Bluetooth setting, turn it back on, and pair with your device again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can configure your Anagram to boot up with Bluetooth enabled so you don\u2019t need to go through these steps. In the Bluetooth settings, set <strong>Boot with BT <\/strong>to On. The Anagram will display a security warning.
