Upon registration, you\u2019ll get access to additional content and features to load onto the pedal!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Log in to your <a href=\"https:\/\/polyend.com\/my-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Polyend account<\/a>. If you don\u2019t have a Polyend account, fill out the registration form at the bottom of the page. Polyend will periodically release updates that will often add new features or address any issues that may be present in the current version. Polyend has made the process simple: you just need to transfer the file from your computer to the Step.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/polyend.com\/downloads\/step-downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Step downloads page<\/a>. Download the latest firmware version.<\/li><li>Navigate to your <em>Downloads <\/em>folder. Locate, then extract the <em>PolyendStep_v.x.x.pstf <\/em>firmware file.<\/li><li>Insert the microSD card into the included USB adapter. Connect it to your computer.<\/li><li>Navigate to your <em>Downloads <\/em>folder, transfer the firmware file to the <em>Firmware <\/em>folder located in the Root Directory of the SD card, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/how-to-safely-eject-an-external-hard-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">safely eject<\/a> the USB adapter from your computer.<\/li><li>Insert the SD card into the Step. Power the pedal on.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Song<\/strong> knob, then navigate and choose <em>Firmware<\/em>.<\/li><li>Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the firmware-update process. The connections are straightforward for any instrument you use! Here are a few tips to get you up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Front Panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use the 16 <em>Step <\/em>buttons to enter or remove the current instrument\u2019s step within the pattern.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>1\u20134<\/strong> buttons to choose the instrument with which you want to work.<\/li><li>Use the knobs to change specific functions. With the exception of the <em>Tempo <\/em>and <em>Volume <\/em>knobs, you can push a knob down to enter and exit out of submenus.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3>Rear Connections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4>Power<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure you use a 9\u201318V DC <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c961--Power_Supplies?sb=popular&amp;params=eyJmYWNldCI6eyJCcmFuZCI6WyJDSU9LUyIsIkVsZWN0cm8tSGFybW9uaXgiLCJWb29kb28gTGFiIiwiRHVubG9wIiwiTVhSIiwiU3RyeW1vbiIsIlQtUmV4IiwiVHJ1ZXRvbmUiXX19&amp;_queryID=6443ce78d45d5209f64233093c7404aa&amp;_index=production_products\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">power supply<\/a> that is 560 mA and center negative!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Outputs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Step has L and R MONO audio outputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Inputs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There is one stereo audio input to connect any instrument, either mono or stereo. Depending on what\u2019s connected, you might need to change the audio input signal setting within the Settings menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>MIDI<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Use 1\/8-inch TRS cables for MIDI I\/O connections. You can change parameters (CC), make song changes (PC), and play patterns via MIDI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>USB<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to send and receive MIDI from your computer, you can do so via the USB port.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Reset<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If your pedal isn\u2019t functioning properly, you may have to perform a factory reset. To perform a factory reset on the Polyend Step, you must insert a paper clip or a pen to press the recessed button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Working-with-Songs-and-Patterns\">Working with Songs and Patterns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can work with up to 1,000 songs on the Polyend Step, all of which are customizable. Each song consists of up to 16 patterns, and there are 16 steps within each pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Turn the <strong>Beat<\/strong> knob to select the song of your choosing. Tap the <strong>Play<\/strong> footswitch to begin song playback.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>Kit<\/strong> knob to change the kit.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>1\u201316<\/strong> pads to add or remove steps in the pattern. Songs consist of four samples: Kick, Snare, Hat, and Perc. What\u2019s great is that you can mix and match samples to make your own unique kits! Let\u2019s create a new song from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Turn the <strong>Song <\/strong>knob and navigate to, then select <strong>Empty<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Turn the <strong>Kit <\/strong>knob to select a kit of your choosing.<\/li><li>Press <strong>1 <\/strong>to select the kick track, enter a pattern, and press the <strong>Play <\/strong>switch.<\/li><li>Repeat steps two and three until you\u2019ve added the samples you wanted to load.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Adding Effects<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can add effects to entire tracks and to individual steps within patterns. Adding effects will give your songs more life and character! Take your time with each track, and play around to see what sounds good to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To add effects, press and hold the <strong>Track <\/strong>(or step) button to which you wish to apply the effect, then turn the <strong>Effect <\/strong>knob. Here are a few tips to get you started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Punch-in effects<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Punch-in effects are a great way to transition from one pattern to another or to add additional flare to the pattern that\u2019s currently playing. The punch-in process is simple, so we will show you how to add a punch-in and to transition to a new pattern.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>After you\u2019ve made edits to your patterns, enter <em>Song <\/em>view. Turn the <strong>Effect <\/strong>knob.<\/li><li>Navigate to and select <strong>Rearrange<\/strong>, then use the <strong>Effect<\/strong> knob to select the rearrangement you wish to apply. Press and hold the <strong>Effect<\/strong> switch to preview (and apply) the fill.<\/li><li>Tap the <strong>Play <\/strong>switch to begin playing.
