Before we get up and running, let\u2019s take some time to get familiar with the controls and the workflow. We\u2019ll also provide some tips and tricks to get you up and running!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Front Panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>Any buttons with blue text beneath them have a secondary function. Press and hold the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>and <strong>PLAY <\/strong>buttons for <em>Live Recording<\/em> mode. Press and hold the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>and <strong>STOP <\/strong>buttons for <em>Step Recording<\/em>.<ul><li>Hold <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button to copy.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>The <strong>PLAY <\/strong>and <strong>STOP <\/strong>buttons are self-explanatory. Hold <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and either button to clear or paste, respectively.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Data Entry Knobs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The data entry knobs (A\u2013H) are used for changing different parameters. These parameters correlate to the parameters you see on the Digitone II\u2019s display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Parameter<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The page buttons (located directly beneath the data entry knobs) let you access the pages associated with that button (<strong>SYN<\/strong> takes you to the SYN machine page, <strong>FLTR<\/strong> takes you to the FILTER page, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you see three dots on the right of the display, this means there are multiple pages. Use the <strong>UP <\/strong>and <strong>DOWN <\/strong>buttons to navigate through the pages.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Trig Buttons<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Depending on the function, the Trig buttons will control specific parameters allocated to the buttons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use the Trig buttons with data entry knobs to enter or remove parameter locks and sequencer triggers.<\/li><li>Use the Trig buttons along with the <strong>TRK<\/strong>, <strong>PTN<\/strong>, and <strong>SONG<\/strong> buttons to choose tracks, banks, patterns, and songs.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>KEYBOARD (KB SETUP) <\/strong>button to turn the Trig buttons into a chromatic keyboard.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Other buttons<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>While most buttons are grouped together and share common functionality, there are a few that have specific controls.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The <strong>PRESET\/KIT<\/strong> (<em>music note<\/em>) button opens the preset\/kit menu, where you can manage any presets and kits. If you hold <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and press this button, you will enter <em>PERFORMANCE KIT <\/em>mode.<\/li><li>The <strong>SETTINGS<\/strong> (<em>gear<\/em>) button opens settings for managing global settings. If you hold <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and press this button, you can save the current project selected.<\/li><li>The <strong>VOICE SETUP<\/strong> (<em>four dots<\/em>) button opens the voice menu, which allows you to work with a track\u2019s voice settings. Press and hold <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and this button to toggle unison on and off.<\/li><li>The <strong>TEMPO<\/strong> (<em>metronome<\/em>) button lets you set the global\/pattern tempo and swing. Press and hold <strong>FUNC <\/strong>with this button to tap tempo.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Elektron-Digitone-II-Projects-and-Kits\">Elektron Digitone II Projects and Kits<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you know how to navigate the Digitone II, it\u2019s time to start creating some music! This guide will teach you the basics to get up and running, so make sure to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/elektron.se\/support-downloads\/digitone-ii#resources\">Digitone II user manual<\/a> for more information!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Create-a-Project\">Create a Project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To start off, let\u2019s create a project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>SETTINGS <\/strong>(<em>gear<\/em>)button, use the <strong>UP <\/strong>and <strong>DOWN <\/strong>arrows or the Level\/Data knob to highlight <em>Project<\/em>, and press the <strong>YES <\/strong>button.<\/li><li>Select <em>Load Project<\/em> and choose <em>CREATE NEW<\/em>.<ul><li>Please note that if you load a new project, it will replace the active one, so make sure you save the active project before creating a new one!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Record-a-Pattern\">Record a Pattern<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve set everything up, you can record patterns. You can record patterns using step recording or live recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Live Recording<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" id=\"Live-Recording\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>Auto-quantize is enabled by default. You can disable it at any time by pressing the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button twice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Live recording on the Digitone II is perfect when you want to record leads or bass lines. This gives your melodies flow and allows them to sound natural.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press and hold the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button and press the <strong>PLAY <\/strong>button. The Digitone II will begin playing, and the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button will flash red.<\/li><li>Start playing by using the <strong>TRIG <\/strong>buttons. Changes to the <em>Parameters <\/em>mage will also be recorded and will add lock trigs where needed.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>PLAY <\/strong>button to stop recording and keep the sequencer playing. Press the <strong>STOP <\/strong>button to stop recording and the sequencer.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Step-Recording\">Step Recording<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Step recording is the preferred method when you want to lay down drum tracks that need to be right on time. This is helpful for genres like EDM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>and <strong>STOP <\/strong>buttons to enter <em>Step Recording<\/em> mode.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>TRIG <\/strong>button to select the track to which you wish to start adding steps. The active step will illuminate and blink green.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button while pressing one of the <strong>TRIG <\/strong>buttons to add a step on the track. The step will then advance to the next step.<ul><li>Press and hold the <strong>KEYBOARD <\/strong>button, then press any lit <strong>TRIG <\/strong>button to add a note with the note to the selected step.
