In this guide, we will show you how to navigate, set up, and use the Digitone II for the first time. This guide only scratches the surface, so be sure to also check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/elektron.se\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/10\/Digitone-2-User-Manual_ENG_OS1.00A_241023.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Digitone II User Manual<\/a> to learn more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"#Digitone-II-Setup-and-Connections\"><strong>Digitone II Setup and Connections<\/strong><\/a><ul><li><a href=\"#USB\"><strong>USB<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#MIDI\"><strong>MIDI<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Audio-IO\">Audio I\/O<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Digitone-II-Setup-and-Connections\">Digitone II Setup and Connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before we get started, let\u2019s first navigate the Digitone II to get familiar with its setup and various connections.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"USB\">USB<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>The Digitone II is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/what-is-a-device-driver\/#What-is-a-Class-Compliant-Device\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">class compliant<\/a> on Windows PC and Mac, meaning no additional driver software is necessary to run it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The USB connection is easy to understand. Just connect the Digitone II to your computer using the included USB cable. This will allow you to use Overbridge, to control MIDI, and to adjust USB audio routing settings. The USB connection is also required to update the OS (firmware).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Change the USB MIDI and USB Audio settings by pressing the <strong>Gear<\/strong> button, then use the <strong>Level\/Data<\/strong>knob to navigate and highlight <em>System<\/em>. Press the <strong>Level\/Data<\/strong>knob, select <em>USB CFG<\/em>, and switch between USB AUDIO and USB AUDIO\/MIDI.<\/li><li><strong>USB MIDI:<\/strong> will only send and receive MIDI from your Digitone II over USB.<\/li><li><strong>USB AUDIO\/MIDI:<\/strong> will allow you to send and receive audio and MIDI over USB. This option is preferred if you want to connect to a class-compliant USB device.<\/li><li>You can change USB audio I\/O settings within the <em>Audio Routing<\/em> menu. You can access it within the <em>System<\/em> settings.<\/li><li><strong>USB IN:<\/strong> This sets where the incoming audio is routed in the Digitone II. You can choose <strong>MAIN<\/strong>, which will route the incoming audio through the main outputs, or <strong>OFF<\/strong>, where no sound will be sent through. Please note this is only available when you set the <em>USB CFG <\/em>to <em>USB AUDIO\/MIDI <\/em>(as outlined above).<\/li><li><strong>USB OUT:<\/strong> This sets where the Digitone II\u2019s audio output is sent to the USB audio device. Set it to MAIN to send the Digitone II audio to the main outs. Set it to L:1\/16 or R:1\/16 to send audio to a specific channel.<\/li><li><strong>EXT:<\/strong> The USB audio is routed directly from the Digitone II\u2019s inputs to the external USB audio device.<\/li><li><strong>OFF:<\/strong> No audio is sent to the external audio device.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"MIDI\">MIDI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect the Digitone II to external MIDI hardware via the three MIDI ports on the back of the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Press the <strong>GEAR <\/strong>button, then use the<strong> Level\/Data<\/strong>knob to navigate and highlight <em>MIDI CONFIG<\/em>. Press the <strong>Level\/Data<\/strong>knob to enter the MIDI configuration settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The MIDI settings are straightforward, so here are a few things to remember when updating the MIDI settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>PROG CH will activate incoming (receive) and outgoing (send) program-change messages in the <em>SYNC<\/em> settings. This is useful when you want to choose patterns externally.<\/li><li>Enabling Turbo Speed in the <em>PORTS <\/em>settings will increase the speed at which MIDI messages are transmitted between MIDI devices. This is only available if you have a Turbo MIDI\u2013compatible device.<\/li><li>Sequencer data is always sent on the MIDI channel specified by the <em>CHAN <\/em>parameter on the <em>SYN PARAMETER <\/em>page.<\/li><li>If you have an external keyboard and you set the AUTO CHANNEL to the same channel as the Digitone II, it automatically plays notes to that specific track. This is handy when changing active audio tracks to play different presets. The Digitone II also uses AUTO CHANNEL to record to the MIDI tracks from external MIDI controllers.<\/li><li>For example, if you have an external MIDI keyboard set to channel 1 and you change the AUTO CHANNEL to channel 1, you can use the keyboard to play whatever track is loaded on channel 1 on the Digitone II.<\/li><li>The default AUTO CHANNEL is MIDI channel 10.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Audio-IO\">Audio I\/O<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Digitone II accepts both 1\/4-inch TS and TRS balanced and unbalanced cables. When you\u2019re connecting audio gear to your Digitone II, make sure the audio sources are powered off, or else you risk damaging your equipment. Here are some audio-routing tips to get you up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Access the audio mixer by pressing the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and <strong>MOD<\/strong> buttons. Use the <strong>UP <\/strong>and <strong>DOWN <\/strong>buttons to navigate through the menus. Use the<strong> A\u2013H <\/strong>knobs to change the parameters.<\/li><li>The <em>INTERNAL MIXER<\/em>page (2\/5 and 3\/5) is where you will adjust individual channel levels.<\/li><li>If the level is set to 100, it will be at unity. Anything below 100 attenuates the signal, and anything above 100 amplifies it.<\/li><li>The <em>EXTERNAL MIXER<\/em>page (5\/5) allows you to set the input level from the <em>IN L\/R<\/em>audio input, to turn on or off Dual MONO sets (which lets you process the input as a single stereo input or two separate mono inputs), to adjust the balance of the two inputs in the stereo field, to pattern volume, and to master effects levels.<\/li><li>If <em>DUAL<\/em>is set to <strong>ON<\/strong>, the first <em>EXTERNAL MIXER<\/em> window will control the audio from INPUT L.
