Upon registration, you\u2019ll get access to a six-month Roland Cloud membership, which offers instrument expansions, kit packs, DW Soundworks, and more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Log in to your&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/backstage\/login#register_product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roland Backstage account<\/a>. To record and play back all 32 channels available on the V71, you must download and install the dedicated driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/global\/support\/by_product\/v71\/updates_drivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roland\u2019s&nbsp;V71 Update &amp; Drivers page<\/a>&nbsp;to locate the latest driver version for your OS. While you\u2019re on this page, we recommend downloading the System Program (firmware) if your module requires an update.<\/li><li>If you\u2019re a Windows PC user and your computer is connected to the Internet, the driver will automatically be installed. Here are a few tips to get you up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To keep the cabling tidy, use hook-and-loop straps or zip ties to secure cables to the rack. This will also help prevent tangles.<\/li><li>Since a decent number of connections are available, we recommend labeling your cables. This way, you\u2019ll know that a cable is connected to the correct drum or cymbal pad and will trigger the right sound.<\/li><li>The Digital USB triggers are specifically made for pads with digital connections, such as the Roland PD-14DSX, PD-140DS, CY-18DR, or VH-14D.<\/li><li>When a Digital USB trigger is connected, you will be prompted to configure the module to recognize the pad.<\/li><li>The <em>Trigger In<\/em> only accepts single- and dual-zone triggers.<\/li><li>Take note of each jack the ride and hi-hat cymbals are connected to.<\/li><li>For example, if you connect a cable from the Ride Bell jack on the pad to the <em>Ride (10)<\/em>, the bell will trigger the ride sound.<\/li><li>The <em>Mix In <\/em>jack can be used to connect a mobile device or an electronic musical device, such as a sampling pad.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Connecting-Digital-Pads\">Connecting Digital Pads<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>A digital pad with a USB jack, such as the PD-14DSX, the PD-140DS, the CY-18DR, or the VH-14D, must be connected to the <em>Digital In<\/em> USB port on the module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect the pad to one of the <em>Digital In <\/em>USB ports and turn the module on. You will receive a notification that a digital pad is connected, and you\u2019ll be asked to go to Trigger Setting.<\/li><li>The module should automatically recognize that the pad is connected.<\/li><li>Choose <strong>OK<\/strong>, then press the <strong>ENTER <\/strong>button.<\/li><li>Use the cursor button to choose <em>Assign <\/em>for the pad you wish to configure, and use <strong>+ <\/strong>and <strong>\u2013 <\/strong>buttons (or the main knob) to select the pad assignment. If you disconnect it, the module will no longer recognize the pad, and you will need to manually recover and update it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your digital pad\u2019s firmware is out of date, the V71 will tell you so, and you will need to update the firmware before using the pad. Fortunately, you can update the firmware directly from the module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>If you\u2019re prompted to update your firmware, choose <em>OK<\/em>, then press the <strong>ENTER<\/strong> button.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>+ <\/strong>and<strong> \u2013<\/strong> buttons or the main knob to select the pad that needs to be updated (\u201cNeeds to update\u201d), then press the <strong>F6 (UPDATE)<\/strong> button.<\/li><li>Select <em>OK<\/em> and press the <strong>ENTER<\/strong> button. The pad\u2019s firmware update should now begin.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Calibrate-the-Hi-Hat-on-the-V71\">Calibrate the Hi-hat on the V71<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have Roland V series hi-hats (like the VH-14D or the VH-13) on the V71, you will need to calibrate it so the module can correctly detect the pedal movement and the open\/close function. Check out our calibration guide for instructions on calibrating your hi-hat with the V71.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The recommended trigger parameters are automatically set when you first connect the hi-hat. The amount of recording and playback audio depends on the module\u2019s driver mode. If it\u2019s set to <em>Generic<\/em> mode, you can only record and play back two channels of audio. You can record and play back all 32 channels available if it\u2019s set to <em>Vendor<\/em> mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>SETUP <\/strong>button, select <strong>USB AUDIO<\/strong>, and press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Move the cursor to <em>Driver Mode<\/em>.
