This guide will show you how to register, set up, and use the Move for the first time. Let\u2019s get started. Upon registration, you\u2019ll get a free copy of Ableton Live Intro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ableton.com\/en\/login\/?next=\/en\/account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Log in to your Ableton account<\/a>. If you don\u2019t have one yet, you can create one now.<\/li><li>Go to the&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.ableton.com\/en\/account\/add_license\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">product registration page<\/a>, enter the serial number located underneath the unit, and click&nbsp;<strong>Submit<\/strong>. You can update the firmware on your computer or via Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Computer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT! <\/strong>If you are a Windows 10 user, you must perform the first firmware update via Wi-Fi before you\u2019ll be able to update it via Move Manager.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Updating the Ableton Move firmware on your computer is a breeze. If you chose to skip this during the initial setup process, press and hold the <strong>\u2026 (Shift)<\/strong> button while pressing the <strong>second step (Function)<\/strong> button, then use the main encoder to select <em>Wi-Fi<\/em>. You can then follow Wi-Fi pairing procedure from there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you don\u2019t have access to your computer, you can update the Move\u2019s firmware via Wi-Fi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>With the Move turned off, connect the power supply to your Ableton Move, then press the <strong>Power <\/strong>button to turn it back on.<\/li><li>Press and hold the <strong>\u2026 (Shift) <\/strong>button. You should now see icons below the functions at the bottom.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>second Function<\/strong> button, turn the <strong>main encoder<\/strong> to enter <em>Setup<\/em>, and press it to select <em>Wi-Fi<\/em>.<\/li><li>Locate your Wi-Fi, press the <strong>main wheel<\/strong>, and enter the Wi-Fi password. Once Wi-Fi is connected, you should be taken to the <em>Update <\/em>screen. If not, back out to the <em>Setup<\/em> page, press the <strong>main wheel<\/strong>, navigate to <em>Update<\/em>,and press the <strong>main wheel<\/strong> again.<\/li><li>Use the main encoder to highlight and select <strong>Update<\/strong>. The firmware update process will begin.<\/li><li>Once the update is finished, the Move will power cycle.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Perform a Factory Reset<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you ever run into issues or just want a fresh start, you can perform a factory reset of the Move.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press and hold the <strong>\u2026 (Shift)<\/strong> button, press the <strong>second Function<\/strong> button, and use the main encoder to navigate to <em>Advanced<\/em>.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>main encoder<\/strong>, scroll to <em>Factory Reset<\/em>, and press the <strong>main wheel <\/strong>again. You will then be asked if you want to perform the reset.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>main wheel<\/strong> once more to perform a factory reset on the Move.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Setup-and-Connections\">Setup and Connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ableton Move has a few connections and fully integrates with Ableton Live.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Although the Ableton Move is partially charged when you first take it out of the box, we recommend fully charging it before its first use.<\/li><li>The Move has two USB ports: USB-C and USB-A. The USB-C port is used for computer and charging connections. The USB-A is for MIDI.<\/li><li>Use the Audio In jack to input audio for recording samples.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>MIDI<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect external MIDI devices to the Ableton Move via the USB-A (MIDI) port. Please note that the Ableton Move can only <em>send <\/em>MIDI (MIDI Out).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Hold the <strong>\u2026 (Shift) <\/strong>button, then press the <strong>second step (Function)<\/strong> button to enter the <em>Settings <\/em>menu.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>main encoder<\/strong> and navigate to MIDI, then press the <strong>main encoder<\/strong> to enter the MIDI settings. You can then update the MIDI Out settings to either all or MIDI track 4.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Creating-a-New-Set\">Creating a New Set<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019re familiar with navigating the Ableton Move, let\u2019s create a new Set. When you first power on the Move, you will be taken to <em>Set Overview<\/em>. The first four Sets (illuminated) are demo Sets. The other 28 Sets are blank.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>When you hold the <strong>\u2026 (Shift) <\/strong>button, you will see different buttons illuminate. This means those specific buttons have secondary functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press and hold the <strong>\u2026 (Shift) <\/strong>button and press the <strong>first Function<\/strong> button (page icon).<\/li><li>Choose an empty Set, then press one of the four <strong>Track <\/strong>buttons to create the Set.<\/li><li>Press a track button, and press the main encoder to change the track\u2019s sound. Step recording is the preferred method for drums or synth leads where exact timing is needed. Real-time recording is best if you want more flow or groove to your track.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Press the <strong>Loop<\/strong> button, then change the loop length using the main encoder.<\/li><li>After you have recorded your track, use <strong>&lt; <\/strong>and <strong>&gt; <\/strong>to navigate.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Step recording<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Step recording is straightforward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Select the instrument you wish to record by pressing one of the four track buttons.<\/li><li>With the instrument track selected, press the pad you want to trigger.<\/li><li>You can change the length of the note by pressing and holding the <strong>sixth step (Function)<\/strong> button indicated by the two circles underneath.<\/li><li>Press one of the 16 step buttons to input a note. Remove it by pressing it again.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Real-time recording<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>To record in real time, press the <strong>Record <\/strong>button. You will then have a one-measure count-in before the track begins recording.
