If you purchased an Ableton Live upgrade, you must register the Push 3 before activating your upgrade.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While it\u2019s always exciting to take new gear out of the box and start playing, you first must register your Push 3 with Ableton. After registration, you\u2019ll gain access to a free copy of Ableton Live Lite and Packs to expand the large catalog of sounds you get with Live even further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.ableton.com\/en\/login\/?next=\/en\/account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Log in to your Ableton account<\/a>. If you don\u2019t have one yet, you can create one now.<\/li><li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ableton.com\/en\/account\/add_license\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">product registration page<\/a>, enter the serial number located on the back of the box, and click <strong>Submit<\/strong>. Press the green <strong>Done<\/strong> button to connect.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Gear (<em>Settings<\/em>) <\/strong>button, then press <strong>Software<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If there\u2019s a new firmware update, press the green <strong>Update<\/strong> button to install the latest firmware.<\/li><li>Press the blue <strong>Authorize <\/strong>button, open your internet browser, and enter the URL that appears on the display.<\/li><li>Select the Ableton Live license you want to authorize, then click <strong>Authorize<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If you\u2019ve authorized Live Standard or Live Suite, you must restart the Push 3.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Learn Push 3: Authorizing and Updating\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/m0Qc79cpi-8?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Installing-Bonus-Packs\">Installing Bonus Packs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ableton Push 3 comes with bonus sound packs to further expand your creativity. These bonus sound packs are available for installation after you have authorized your Push 3 and your Live license.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>+ <\/strong>button, press <strong>Packs<\/strong>, and look for <em>Available Packs<\/em>.<\/li><li>Use the right jog wheel to highlight the Pack you want to install, then press the jog wheel to install the Pack.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Learn Push 3: Installing Packs\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/A5oV3vWNaNI?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Update-the-Push-3-Firmware\">Update the Push 3 Firmware<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Ableton will release firmware updates for the Push 3 that will add features or address bugs that are present in the current version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All you need to do is connect the Push 3 to your computer, launch Ableton Live, press the<strong> Gear (<em>Settings<\/em>)<\/strong> button, and press the <strong>Software <\/strong>button. If there\u2019s a firmware update available, you will see a green <strong>Update <\/strong>button with the notification \u201cAn update to Push 1.2.x is available.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you have a Push 3 Standalone that\u2019s connected via Wi-Fi, there\u2019s no need to connect the device to your computer.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Push-3-Setup-and-Connections\">Push 3 Setup and Connections<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ableton Push 3 has plenty of connections and is fully integrated with Ableton Live, meaning it\u2019s plug-and-play. You can use it as an audio interface, make it the centerpiece of your synth setup, or use it as a controller and sequencer!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"USB\">USB<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can use the Push 3 as an audio interface not only inside Ableton Live but also in all other DAWs. This allows you to expand the audio I\/O by either four stereo or eight mono sources. You may need to update your ADAT-compatible audio interface settings or preamp. Please refer to its owner\u2019s manual for further information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Learn Push 3: ADAT\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4LdUFeCYEvM?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"MIDI\">MIDI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect any class-compliant MIDI device to the Push 3\u2019s USB-A jack. You can also use the 1\/8-inch to MIDI adapter to connect to external MIDI devices. The Push 3\u2019s MIDI Out is set to automatically send MIDI notes to your external MIDI device, so no additional setup is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, if you connect a MIDI device via the USB-A jack, you will need to update a few additional settings so it is recognized and can be used properly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect the MIDI device to the USB-A jack on the Push 3.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Gear (Setup)<\/strong> button, choose MIDI, use the first encoder above the display, set the I\/O to <em>Output, <\/em>and push the <strong>Track <\/strong>button. If your device also receives MIDI clock, also press <strong>Sync<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Learn Push 3: MIDI\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/qX0nRppjY-c?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Pedals\">Pedals<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect pedals to <em>Pedal 1 <\/em>and <em>Pedal 2<\/em>. Pedal 1 can be used for recording functionality on the Push. For example, single-pressing the footswitch will trigger the Record options (record, overdub, and playback). Double-tapping the footswitch will toggle the <strong>New <\/strong>button. Pedal 2 is for sustain pedals only.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pedal jacks work with footswitches, and you can also send CV data to modular gear.
