Up to eight presets for each amp type come programmed with a chain of multiple effects. In the Effects section, you have a few buttons and knobs you can use to select effects and raise or lower each effect\u2019s intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>With the BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3 app, you can open up the functionality of the Katana and customize everything in great detail. Among other things, the app enables you to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Customize each amp model with more parameters than are available on the amp\u2019s control panel<\/li><li>Access and choose from a much larger selection of effects that you&#8217;d have otherwise<\/li><li>View the signal chain of effects for each preset, select different effects, drag and drop an effect to change its order, and tweak every virtual knob and control on each effect<\/li><li>Download libraries of new presets from BOSS Tone Central to the app<\/li><li>Create your own libraries of presets, store them and recall them, and upload the presets you need to your Katana<\/li><li>For line out and recording, select different mic models and their positions with regard to the speaker cab model<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in the BOSS website article <a href=\"https:\/\/articles.boss.info\/getting-started-boss-tone-studio-and-katana\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Getting Started: BOSS Tone Studio and Katana<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3 app comes in two forms:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3<\/strong> for macOS and Windows.<\/li><li><strong>BTS for Katana Gen 3<\/strong> for iOS, iPadOS and Android<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>We recommend that you start with the version for your computer; you can connect to your Katana with a USB-C data cable. The app on your computer provides you with a large window where you can see all the parameters laid out, so you can edit everything easily.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Over USB-C, you can also use the Katana as an <strong>audio interface<\/strong> to send its output as digital audio to your DAW for recording. Furthermore, you can play back digital audio from your computer as an auxiliary input for backing tracks or for practice. You can even use the loopback function in the app to send a dry guitar track from your DAW to the Katana to be re-amped, and then send the amp and effects\u2019 signal back to another track on your DAW to record it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Installing-Boss-Tone-Studio-for-Katana-Gen-3-on-Your-Computer\">Installing BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3 on Your Computer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Download-Updates-and-Drivers\">Download Updates and Drivers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>TIP<\/strong>: If you own another BOSS device, you may have previously installed a BOSS USB driver and another app named BOSS Tone Studio. Neither of those will work with your Katana Gen 3. Follow these instructions to download the newest Katana Gen 3 driver and app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Katana Gen 3 Driver<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>In order for your computer to recognize your Katana, you must first download and install the <strong>BOSS Katana 3 driver<\/strong> for your operating system.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On your computer, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boss.info\/us\/support\/by_product\/katana_artist_gen_3\/updates_drivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">BOSS Updates &amp; Drivers download page<\/a>. (Note that the same drivers and software are used for all models of Katana Gen 3.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the link for the version of the <strong>Katana 3 Driver<\/strong> for Windows or macOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the instructions to download and install the driver.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Download the Owner\u2019s Manual<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>On your computer, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boss.info\/us\/support\/by_product\/katana_artist_gen_3\/owners_manuals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Owner\u2019s Manuals page<\/a>. Download <a href=\"https:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/BTS_KTN3_PC_eng01_W.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Using BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3 (for PC)<\/a>. You will need it to learn about all the features of the Katana you can configure, and to look up information on the dozens of effects available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Download the BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3 App<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have installed the driver, on your computer, go back to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boss.info\/us\/support\/by_product\/katana_artist_gen_3\/updates_drivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Boss Updates &amp; Drivers download page<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Click on the link for <strong>BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3<\/strong> for Windows or macOS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the instructions to download and install the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Launching-the-App-and-Updating-the-Firmware\">Launching the App and Updating the Firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Start with the Katana\u2019s power turned off. Connect a USB-C data cable to the port on the back of the Katana, and connect the other end directly to your computer. Use an adapter if needed. You are using an older version of Katana Gen 3. Update to the latest version.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOlder version\u201d refers to the <strong>firmware<\/strong> on your Katana. From time to time, BOSS puts out new firmware for the Katana 3 that fixes bugs and may add new features. Installing the newest firmware on your Katana is required for the BOSS Tone Studio for Katana Gen 3 app to work with your amp. You can drag and drop them to change their order. Click on an effect and drag it. Blue dots will appear to show you places in the signal chain where you can move this effect. Drag it to the position to the left of a blue dot, and the dot will turn white. phone or tablet connects to your Katana via Bluetooth.
