We\u2019ll also provide some tips to get you up and running fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Front-Panel\"><br>Front Panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>Any buttons with orange text beneath them have a secondary function. You can access these by holding the orange <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2024\/05\/Digitakt-II-Front-Panel-diagram-100-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"943\" height=\"582\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2024\/05\/Digitakt-II-Front-Panel-diagram-100-1.jpg\" alt=\"Digitakt II Front Panel diagram\" class=\"wp-image-1781504\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2024\/05\/Digitakt-II-Front-Panel-diagram-100-1.jpg 943w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2024\/05\/Digitakt-II-Front-Panel-diagram-100-1-300x185.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2024\/05\/Digitakt-II-Front-Panel-diagram-100-1-768x474.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 943px) 100vw, 943px\" \/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h4>Transport Controls<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>These buttons allow you to record, play, and stop patterns and songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you press the <strong>Record <\/strong>button, you will enter <em>Step Sequencer<\/em> mode, where you can manually add notes. This is particularly useful for drums that need to stay on beat.<\/li><li>If you hold <strong>Record<\/strong> and press the <strong>Play <\/strong>button, you can live record. By default, the Digitakt II will be in <em>Unquantized<\/em> mode. If you hold <strong>Record <\/strong>and press <strong>Play <\/strong>twice, it will enter <em>Quantized<\/em> mode, meaning it will automatically quantize your live recording to the closest beat. This is great when you want to record unique keyboard or drum patterns.<\/li><li>If you have a lengthy sample and press the <strong>Stop <\/strong>button, the pattern won\u2019t stop. Double-press the <strong>Stop <\/strong>button to completely stop playback, including any lengthy sample.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Data Entry Knobs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The data entry knobs (A\u2013H) are used for changing various parameters. The parameters correspond with the parameters you see on the display.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Page<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Page buttons (beneath the parameter knobs) allow you to access the associated pages assigned to each button (FLTR will take you to the Filter page, FX will take you to the Effects page, etc.).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you see dots on the right of the display, this means there are submenus. Use the <strong>up <\/strong>and <strong>down <\/strong>arrows to navigate through the submenus.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Other Buttons<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Most buttons are grouped together, but there are others which have specific functions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The <strong>Gear <\/strong>button opens the <em>Settings<\/em> menu.<\/li><li>The <strong>Music note<\/strong> button opens the <em>Preset\/Kit<\/em> menu.<\/li><li>The <strong>Wave <\/strong>button opens the <em>Sampling<\/em> menu.<\/li><li>The <strong>Metronome <\/strong>button opens the <em>Tempo<\/em> menu.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>Trig Buttons<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The buttons labeled 1\u201316 are used to play samples and to enter or remove sequencer steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Rear-Panel\">Rear Panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are plenty of connections on the Digitakt II that allow you to expand your setup and use external gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>USB<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The USB connection is straightforward. Connect the Digitakt II to your computer for MIDI control and audio streaming and sampling. The Digitakt II is class-compliant, which means no additional driver software is necessary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Change the USB MIDI and Audio settings by pressing the <strong>Gear <\/strong>icon, then use the data entry knob to highlight <strong>System<\/strong>. Next, press the knob, select <strong>USB CFG<\/strong>,and switch between USB MIDI and USB AUDIO\/MIDI.<ul><li>USB MIDI will only send and receive MIDI over USB.<\/li><\/ul><ul><li>USB AUDIO\/MIDI sets the Digitakt II to send and receive both audio and MIDI over USB.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>If you want to record an audio sample over USB, press the <strong>Sound Wave <\/strong>button (right of the <strong>Gear<\/strong>) to enter <em>Recorder <\/em>mode. Play audio from your computer, then press the <strong>Yes <\/strong>button to begin recording the sample.<ul><li>You can record up to 66 seconds of audio for each sample.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4>MIDI<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three standard 5-pin MIDI connections that you can use to connect external MIDI instruments. Connecting to the <strong>MIDI THRU <\/strong>port will duplicate MIDI data coming through the <strong>MIDI IN <\/strong>port, so it can be used for chaining devices together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Audio I\/O<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Audio I\/O is straightforward. Connect a 1\/4-inch TRS, a phone plug, or a 1\/4-inch mono phone cable from the <strong>OUT L\/R <\/strong>to speakers or a mixer. Connect cables to the <strong>IN L\/R <\/strong>to input external audio for sampling or audio processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Working-with-the-Digitakt-II\">Working with the Digitakt II<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you\u2019ve learned how to navigate and connect your Digitakt II, it\u2019s time to get started! This article will teach you the basics of how to get up and running, but make sure to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/cdn.www.elektron.se\/media\/downloads\/digitakt-ii\/Digitakt_2_User_Manual_ENG_OS1.01_240425.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">User Manual<\/a> for further details!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Creating-a-New-Project\">Creating a New Project<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>NOTE: <\/strong>Whenever you see a bar on the right side of the display, it means there\u2019s an action menu that can be expanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>Gear <\/strong>button, use the <strong>up<\/strong> and <strong>down<\/strong> arrows or the <strong>Level\/Data <\/strong>knob to highlight <em>Projects<\/em>, and press the <strong>Yes<\/strong> button.<\/li><li>Choose <strong>Manage Projects<\/strong> and highlight an empty project. Use the <strong>right <\/strong>arrow button, choose <strong>INIT PROJECT<\/strong>, and press <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Once you see <strong>NEW PROJECT<\/strong>, press the <strong>right <\/strong>arrow button, highlight <strong>RENAME<\/strong>,and press the <strong>Yes<\/strong> button. You can then use the on-screen button combinations to enter the project name. Once that\u2019s complete, press <strong>Yes<\/strong>.<ul><li>If you press the <strong>Gear <\/strong>icon while in the <em>Project Name <\/em>menu, a random name will be generated.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Highlight the newly named project, press the <strong>right <\/strong>arrow button, highlight and select <strong>Load From<\/strong>, then press <strong>Yes<\/strong>. Press <strong>Yes <\/strong>or <strong>No <\/strong>to save the currently loaded project, then press <strong>No <\/strong>until you\u2019re back at the main project screen.<ul><li>It\u2019s always good practice to save any work on your current project before choosing a new project!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Creating-a-Sequence\">Create a Sequence<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>Press the <strong>Metronome <\/strong>button and use the <strong>A <\/strong>data entry knob to change the project tempo. Use the <strong>F<\/strong> data knob to change the project\u2019s time signature.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can create a sequence one of two ways: step-by-step or live. Step recording is a great way to lay down a simple beat. This is preferred for drum patterns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Step Recording<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Choose the sound you wish to record by pressing its corresponding button (1\u201316).<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Rec<\/strong> button to enter <em>Rec Edit<\/em> mode and enter the pattern. You can press <strong>Play <\/strong>to preview.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Rec <\/strong>button to exit out of <em>Rec Edit<\/em> mode and return to playback mode.<\/li><li>Select the next sample you want to record (1\u201316). Follow the second and third steps above.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4>Live Recording<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Preroll is disabled by default. This means as soon as you press the <strong>Rec <\/strong>and <strong>Play <\/strong>buttons, the Digitakt II will begin recording. To enable preroll, press the <strong>Metronome <\/strong>button, then use the <strong>G <\/strong>data entry knob to change the number of bars before recording begins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Choose the sound you wish to record by pressing its corresponding button (1\u201316).<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Rec <\/strong>and <strong>Play <\/strong>buttons to begin recording, then start performing.<ul><li>The <strong>Rec <\/strong>button will flash, which indicates it is actively recording.<\/li><li>Press and hold the <strong>Rec <\/strong>button and press the <strong>Play <\/strong>button twice to enter <em>Quantized Recording<strong>.<\/strong><\/em><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press the <strong>Stop <\/strong>button to stop recording.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Load-Samples-on-the-Elektron-Digitakt-II\">Load Samples on the Elektron Digitakt II<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>Trig <\/strong>button where you want to assign a sample, then press <strong>SRC<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>D <\/strong>data entry knob to scroll through the samples. Press the <strong>Trig <\/strong>button to preview the sample.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>Level\/Data <\/strong>knob, scroll to an empty slot, and press <strong>Yes.<\/strong><\/li><li>Navigate through the folders to find the sample you wish to load.
