When you first take your new AstroLab out of the box, you should check to see if there\u2019s a firmware update<\/strong>, and install it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Your Arturia AstroLab is a hardware keyboard, but it\u2019s also a digital device that runs dozens of virtual instruments, which are essentially pieces of software. Arturia frequently provides firmware updates, which will fix bugs but may also add new Instruments and Effects and compatibility with even more Presets and Sound Banks provided by Arturia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Arturia makes updating the firmware quite easy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    AstroLab Update 1.6<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In November, 2025, Arturia released a major firmware update, Astrolab V 1.6, which brings support for the AstroLab 37<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This update builds on previous updates that integrate of new instruments from Arturia’s V Collection 11. A large selection of presets for the new instruments are included, along with bug fixes and improvements to the Astrolab’s operation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Firmware Update Procedure<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    To update the firmware, connect your AstroLab to your Mac or Windows PC and run the Arturia Analog Lab Pro<\/strong> app, the same app you will use to organize your libraries of AstroLab sounds and to program synth patches.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    This presumes that you have already registered your purchase with Arturia on their website, installed the Arturia Software Center<\/a> app on your Mac or Windows PC, and used the Arturia Software Center to install, register, and activate Analog Lab Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Arturia says you must update your copy of Analog Lab Pro to the newest version before you initiate the firmware update for the Astrolab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    To update Analog Lab Pro, open the Arturia Software Center app, and click on My Updates<\/strong>. You’ll be notified if there’s an update needed. Next to Analog Lab Pro, click Update button. Wait for the download and installation to complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Now that you have updated Analog Lab Pro, connect your AstroLab to your Mac or Windows PC with the USB-C cable provided, and launch the Analog Lab Pro app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    In the title bar of the Home page, next to the name of the currently selected Preset, you should see the blue AstroLab Linked<\/strong> button, indicating that Analog Lab Pro is connected to the app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Click on the Settings gear icon<\/strong>, and the panel on the right will expand. Click on the Settings<\/strong> tab.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Under AstroLab Settings > Device<\/strong> you will see that your AstroLab is selected. (This menu allows you to select between multiple AstroLabs connected to your computer, but that\u2019s a special case.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The app will display the version of the firmware currently installed. Click on the Update <\/strong>button.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The app will check online, and if there is an update, will display an image like this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Click on the Update<\/strong> button. This will download the necessary files from Arturia. A firmware update may be several gigabytes in size, so depending on your Internet connection speed, the download may take a long time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The update process will transfer the firmware update files to your AstroLab, and then perform the actual firmware update. The AstroLab\u2019s display screen will show a progress bar, as will Analog Lab Pro.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    IMPORTANT<\/strong>: The update may take several minutes. While it is being installed, do not touch any keys on your AstroLab. Do not disconnect the USB cable. Do not quit the app or shut down your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    The app will indicate when the firmware update has successfully completed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Recovery Mode<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

    In the unlikely case that the update did not install correctly, the AstroLab will show a blue screen or indicate that it is in Service Mode, and it will not operate correctly. Don\u2019t worry; there is a method for recovering.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    1. With your AstroLab\u2019s power shut down, connect the USB cable to your computer.<\/li>
    2. Hold down the Oct-<\/strong> and Oct+<\/strong> buttons with one hand while turning on the power using the power button on the back panel.<\/li>
    3. On your computer, re-open Analog Lab Pro.<\/li>
    4. In the Settings tab, click the Update<\/strong> button.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      In the Recovery Mode, in the AstroLab Update dialog box, you must click Update from File<\/strong>, and load the firmware file from the hard drive of your computer. But first, you need to go to the Arturia website and obtain it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

      1. In your web browser, go to the Arturia Downloads & Manuals page<\/a>.<\/li>
      2. Enter AstroLab<\/strong> in the search bar.<\/li>
      3. Scroll down to the AstroLab section. Under Firmware you should see the newest version. Click the Download link.<\/li>
      4. In Analog Lab Pro, click the Update from File<\/strong> button. An Open dialog will enable you to locate the firmware file you downloaded.<\/li>
      5. Follow the on-screen prompts to initiate the firmware update. Observe the same cautions as above.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
