The Montage M6, M7, and M8x sound paths can be thought of as layers.&nbsp;<strong>Elements<\/strong>&nbsp;make up a&nbsp;<strong>Part<\/strong>, and each&nbsp;<strong>Part&nbsp;<\/strong>makes a&nbsp;<strong>Performance<\/strong>. The&nbsp;<strong>Performances&nbsp;<\/strong>can then be added to a&nbsp;<strong>Live Set<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An Element is based on one (or multiple) sound engines: AWM2, FM-X, and AN-X. Check out the&nbsp;<a href=\"http:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/files\/download\/other_assets\/2\/2172442\/MONTAGE-M_OM_En_v111_A0_web.pdf#page=9\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Montage M Operation Manual<\/a>&nbsp;to learn more about the sound engines and how they work.<ul><li><strong>AWM2<\/strong>: Uses waveforms containing sample wave data that you can modify using filters and envelope generators. However, before importing a sample, you need to ensure it\u2019s in FAT format. Check out our guide on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/getting-started-with-external-hard-drives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">formatting external storage devices<\/a>&nbsp;for more information!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Format the USB thumb drive and transfer the audio file(s) to your thumb drive.<\/li><li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/how-to-safely-eject-an-external-hard-drive\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Safely eject the USB thumb drive<\/a>&nbsp;from your computer. Connect it to one of the&nbsp;<strong>USB TO HOST&nbsp;<\/strong>ports on your Montage M6, M7, or M8x.<\/li><li>Create an&nbsp;<strong>INIT<\/strong>&nbsp;part (as outlined above).<\/li><li>Press the part\u2019s name, choose&nbsp;<strong>Edit<\/strong>, and select the&nbsp;<strong>Element Number&nbsp;<\/strong>where you want to load it.<\/li><li>Press&nbsp;<strong>Select Waveform<\/strong>&nbsp;and choose the audio file you want to add. After loading the audio sample, go back to the&nbsp;<em>Element Edit&nbsp;<\/em>screen. Live Sets allow you to group up to 16 Performances in one spot. This is perfect in live situations when you use multiple Performances for one song. You can toggle through Live Sets utilizing the touchscreen display and the navigation buttons, or if you have a&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC5--yamaha-fc5-foot-switch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha FC5 pedal<\/a>, you can assign it to toggle between them so you can keep both hands on the keys.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Select a Performance from the&nbsp;<em>Performance<\/em>&nbsp;screen.<\/li><li>Press and hold&nbsp;<strong>SHIFT&nbsp;<\/strong>and press the&nbsp;<strong>LIVE SET&nbsp;<\/strong>button to open a blank Live Set.<\/li><li>Choose a slot where you want to load a Performance, select the Performance you want to add, and follow the on-screen prompts.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Loading-Custom-Audio-to-a-Live-Set\">Loading Custom Audio to a Live Set<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The Montage M allows you to upload custom audio and songs and assign them to a Live Set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>LIVE SET <\/strong>button, go to the <em>User Bank<\/em>, and press <strong>Edit<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Choose the slot and slot type to which you want to add the audio.<\/li><li>Select the audio file you want to add, then press <strong>Done<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Set-Up-a-Footswitch-to-Change-Live-Set-Slots\">Set Up a Footswitch to Change Live Set Slots<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned, you can connect a footswitch to toggle between Live Sets.
