When you first take your DM3 out of the box, Yamaha recommends that you check online to see if there is a newer firmware available. Copy the updater file to flash drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You then connect the flash drive to the Yamaha DM3 and perform the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Do-You-Need-to-Update?\">Do You Need to Update?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"How-to-Find-the-Version-Number-of-the-Firmware-on-Your-Yamaha-DM3\">How to Find the Version Number of the Firmware on Your Yamaha DM3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the DM3\u2019s display, go to the <strong>Setup<\/strong> screen. Select the <strong>About<\/strong> screen. Under the <strong>Version<\/strong> tab, you will see a version number next to <strong>Main<\/strong>. Take note of this and write it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have a DM3 with Dante, you will also see the <strong>Dante<\/strong> field with a different version number. Take note of this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"How-to-Find-the-Version-Number-of-the-Newest-Yamaha-DM3-Firmware\">How to Find the Version Number of the Newest Yamaha DM3 Firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On your computer, go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/products\/proaudio\/mixers\/dm3\/downloads.html#product-tabs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha DM3 Downloads page<\/a> under <strong>Firmware\/Software<\/strong>. You will see the <strong>DM3 Firmware installer<\/strong> with a version number: for example, \u201cDM3 Firmware V1.10.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the version number of this file is higher than the version number displayed on your DM3\u2019s <strong>About<\/strong> screen, you need to update the firmware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Performing-the-Update-Step-by-step\">Performing the Update Step-by-step<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Format-the-USB-Flash-Drive\">Format the USB Flash Drive<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Important: Formatting a USB flash drive will erase any data that is already stored on it. Before you do this, mount your USB flash drive on your computer. If there is any data on it, make a backup copy to your computer before proceeding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have determined that you need to update the firmware, you will need a compatible USB flash drive. Here is how to format the drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the DM3:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Insert the USB flash drive.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Home<\/strong> key. On the display\u2019s top bar, find the <strong>System gear icon<\/strong>. Tap it to go to the <strong>Setup screen<\/strong>.<\/li><li>On the <strong>Setup screen<\/strong>, tap the <strong>Save\/Load icon<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Swipe left on the menu swipe indicator on the right of the Save\/Load screen to open a new menu.<\/li><li>Tap the <strong>Format icon<\/strong>. Follow the instructions to format the USB flash drive.<\/li><li>Wait until the formatting procedure is complete.<\/li><li>Tap the <strong>Eject button<\/strong> on the screen and wait for the DM3 to indicate that it is safe to remove the USB flash drive.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>For more information, consult the <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/files\/download\/other_assets\/6\/1626436\/dm3_en_rm_a1.pdf#page=81\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha DM3 Reference Manual under Screen functions and names &gt; Setup screen &gt; Save\/Load screen<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Prepare-the-Updater-on-Your-Computer\">Prepare the Updater on Your Computer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>First, connect the USB flash drive to your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it\u2019s time to update to a newer version of the firmware, check the <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/products\/proaudio\/mixers\/dm3\/downloads.html#product-tabs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha DM3 Downloads page<\/a> to see if there is a newer version number of the <strong>DM3 Editor<\/strong> for macOS and Windows. Generally speaking, the version number of the Editor needs to match that of the firmware in order for the Editor to connect to and control the DM3. If necessary, download and install the newest version of the DM3 Editor for your version of macOS or Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/products\/proaudio\/mixers\/dm3\/downloads.html#product-tabs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha DM3 Downloads page<\/a>, click the link to the DM3 Firmware update installer. It will take you to an <strong>Important Notices<\/strong> page. Please read it carefully and follow the instructions. If you have the DM3 with Dante, there will be a second firmware update which needs to be installed at the same time. Pay attention to the notes about the Dante update procedure.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Scroll down to the bottom of the information page and click the <strong>Yes, I agree<\/strong> box after reviewing the License Agreement. Click on the link to download the installer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to your Downloads folder and locate the compressed installer. Decompress it if necessary.<\/li><li>Open the file with the name <strong>dm3_frm_en_ug_a1.pdf<\/strong> (or similar). This is the <strong>DM3\/DM3 Standard Firmware Update Guide<\/strong> in English. Read these instructions before you proceed further.<\/li><li>Within the directory, you will see a folder named <strong>dm3_frm110<\/strong> (or similar). Open it. Inside you will find two files named in a similar fashion to the following:<ul><li><strong>DM3_firmware_V1.10.bin<\/strong>. This is the DM3 firmware update file.<\/li><li><strong>FWUpdate_DM3_v4020408_sw500.dnt<\/strong>.This is the Dante firmware update file, which will only be installed if you have the DM3 model with Dante.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Copy these two files to the root directory of the USB drive. Do not copy any additional files. Wait for the file to finish copying.<\/li><li>Perform the <strong>Eject<\/strong> procedure on macOS or Windows before you disconnect the USB flash drive.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Perform-the-Update-on-the-Yamaha-DM3\">Perform the Update on the Yamaha DM3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffcfd3\"><strong>IMPORTANT!<\/strong> Do not touch any knobs, faders, or controls on the DM3 while updating the firmware. Do not disconnect the USB flash drive or turn off the power of the DM3 while the update is underway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Begin with the power turned off on the DM3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Connect the USB flash drive to the DM3. Turn the power on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Upon bootup, an <strong>Update firmware?<\/strong> message will be displayed. Touch the <strong>Update<\/strong> button to start the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The DM3 will automatically reboot when the updater files have been loaded into the unit. However, the update is only beginning. An <strong>Update<\/strong> window will appear and display four progress bars. During the update process, the display may turn itself off. The update is not complete, so refrain from touching anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The display will come back on and display the message \u201cUpdate Finished. Please Remove USB. The Mixer will Start Automatically.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the mixer reboots, go to the <strong>Setup &gt; About<\/strong> window to confirm that the new version number of the firmware is displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have the DM3 with Dante, you may need to wait 60 seconds or longer before the Dante version number is displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Troubleshooting-the-Dante-Update-Process\">Troubleshooting the Dante Update Process<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the DM3 with Dante, during the DM3 firmware update, if a pop-up message \u201cDante Update Error\u201d appears, follow the troubleshooting steps under <strong>If the Dante module update failed<\/strong> in the <strong>DM3\/DM3 Standard Firmware Update Guide<\/strong> PDF file that you downloaded with the installer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Yamaha-DM3-Version-3\">Yamaha DM3 Version 3<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In January, 2025, Yamaha released Version 3 of the firmware. Here is their video explaining the new features.
