The Yamaha DM3 Standard<\/a> and the Yamaha DM3-D, with the Dante network interface<\/a>, are small-format mixers with uncompromising capabilities. Yamaha designed the DM3 to be easy to use, but it will take time to learn all its features. We are here to help you get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Yamaha provides the DM3 StageMix<\/strong> and MonitorMix apps<\/strong> for iPad, iPhone, and Android for wireless front-of-house and monitor mixing. The DM3 Edit app<\/strong> for macOS and Windows PC gives you access to all the features of the DM3 and makes it easy to construct and save scenes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DM3 comes bundled with Steinberg Cubase AI<\/strong> for macOS and Windows. The DM3 is designed to integrate with Cubase and Steinberg Nuendo<\/strong>, as Steinberg is a Yamaha company. The DM3 can also be easily set up to work with any other manufacturer\u2019s DAW on macOS or Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The DM3 is also an audio interface and control surface for recording in a DAW on macOS and Windows PC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Go to usa.yamaha.com<\/a>. In the upper-right corner of the screen, click on the account icon next to the shopping cart. Create a new account and sign in. Click on the Product Registration link.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Provide your mixer\u2019s product name, serial number, purchase date, and other information.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Download Mac and Windows Software for Your DM3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    Next, go to Yamaha\u2019s Download page<\/a>. Download and install the appropriate Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver<\/strong> for your version of macOS or Windows, as you will want to connect your DM3 to your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    If you have a Mac with Apple silicon, installing the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver for macOS requires the extra step of booting into Recovery mode and changing your Mac’s security policy in order to grant permission for a piece of software called a kernel extension. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Complete the process by following the instructions in the Yamaha document Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver Installation Guide for macOS 11 or later (Intel\/Apple silicon)<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    DM3 Editor for macOS and Windows<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    From Yamaha’s Download page<\/a>, download and install the DM3 Editor<\/strong> for macOS or Windows.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    DM3 Firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    You should check the version of the firmware on your DM3 and upgrade it to the newest version if necessary. The version number of the DM3 Editor needs to match the version of the firmware currently installed in your DM3. If there is a newer version available, you will need to install it using the DM3 Firmware installer on the Yamaha download page.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Steinberg Cubase AI Comes with Your Yamaha DM3<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

    The Yamaha DM3 comes with a license code for their basic DAW software, Steinberg Cubase AI<\/a>, for macOS and Windows. In your DM3 box, you will find a card with download information and a registration code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Cubase AI is a \u201cstarter\u201d version of the more capable, full version of Cubase. As the DM3 has features optimized for Cubase, using Cubase AI is a good way get started with using the DM3 as a recording console. However, the DM3 is perfectly compatible with all the major DAWs from other manufacturers, so using Cubase AI is optional.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

    Open the DM3\u2019s box and look through the printed material. Find the Cubase AI download card and follow the instructions. You will need to go to Steinberg.net<\/a>, create a MySteinberg account, download and install the Steinberg Download Assistant<\/strong>, and run it to install and register Cubase AI.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
