When inserting the plug, align the power connector\u2019s wings so to match the horizontal notches on the power input jack. Push the plug in firmly (it seats rather deeply), then rotate the barrel clockwise to secure it in the casing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"The-System-Settings-Info-Page\">The System Settings Info Page<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>To check the firmware version on your Osmose keyboard:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Power the keyboard up and wait a few seconds for the startup procedure to complete.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>M button <\/strong>to the upper left of the display screen.<\/li><li>Click the right-most encoder knob beneath the display screen, below the <strong>System gear <\/strong>icon.<\/li><li>Turn the encoder knob to the upper left of the display screen to scroll through the menu pages: <strong>workflow &gt; hardware &gt; midi i\/o &gt; info.<\/strong><\/li><li>On the <strong>info<\/strong> page, note the full Osmose version number, for example, v1.0.6.<\/li><li>Tap the M button twice to return your Osmose display to normal playing mode.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Find-the-Newest-Firmware-Version-from-Expressive-E\">Find the Newest Firmware Version from Expressive E<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>In the <strong>Sweetwater Expressive E Osmose Quickstart Guide<\/strong>, we explained how to create an account at Expressive E and register your purchase so you can have access to the firmware updater.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/expressive-e-osmose-quickstart-guide\/\" class=\"relatedcontent_link\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-related-content\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_block\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2023\/03\/Hands-on-Osmose-Expressive-E-Quickstart-Guide.jpg);background-size:cover;background-position:center\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_overlay_content\"><\/div><div class=\"relatedcontent-text relatedcontent_content\"><p class=\"relatedcontent_title\" style=\"color:#fff\">Expressive E Osmose Quickstart Guide<\/p><p class=\"relatedcontent_subhead\" style=\"color:#fff;border:none\"><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<p>On the Expressive E website, log in to your account and click on <strong>My Downloads and Serials<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"804\" height=\"838\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2023\/03\/Osmose-Downloads-1.jpg\" alt=\"Osmose Downloads Page\" class=\"wp-image-1777669\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2023\/03\/Osmose-Downloads-1.jpg 804w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2023\/03\/Osmose-Downloads-1-288x300.jpg 288w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2023\/03\/Osmose-Downloads-1-768x800.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 804px) 100vw, 804px\" \/><figcaption>The Osmose download page, with the Quickstart Guide and Firmware update<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Under <strong>Osmose Downloads<\/strong>, you will find the most recent version of the firmware. If this number is higher than the version displayed on your Osmose, you need to perform an update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If the number is lower, you don\u2019t need to take any action, and you can return to the SweetCare Expressive E Osmose Quickstart Guide.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Before-You-Update-the-Firmware\">Before You Update the Firmware<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong> If the firmware update process is interrupted, you may lose data. Follow these precautions to make sure this does not happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Expressive E provides these instructions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>Always use OsmoseUpdater&#8217;s latest version.<\/strong> The application is downward compatible with older Osmose firmware versions. Minimum requirements for OsmoseUpdater are macOS 10.12 or Windows 10. Do not try the update from an older, incompatible machine.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Lock Osmose\u2019s power supply<\/strong> to prevent accidental disconnection. When inserting, align the power connector\u2019s wings to match the horizontal notches on the power input. Push firmly, then rotate the barrel clockwise to secure it to the casing.<\/li><li><strong>Use the original Expressive E-branded USB cable<\/strong>. If not at hand, use a high-quality cable no longer than 2 meters.<\/li><li><strong>Connect Osmose to a dedicated USB port.<\/strong> Connect the USB cable directly to your computer, not to a USB hub.&nbsp;<\/li><li><strong>Disconnect all other USB devices<\/strong> from your computer as far as possible during the update.<\/li><li><strong>Deactivate any power-saving options<\/strong> that may make your computer disable its USB ports or switch off entirely after some idle time.<\/li><li><strong>Plug your computer\u2019s power supply<\/strong> when performing the update from a mobile device.<\/li><li><strong>Make sure that no other application is running<\/strong> that could occupy the USB MIDI port of Osmose (no DAW, no Haken Editor etc.).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have problems establishing a stable USB connection with your system, it&#8217;s worth trying to launch the update from a different compatible computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Learn more in these Expressive E support documents:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/expressivee.happyfox.com\/kb\/article\/293-%E2%9A%A0%EF%B8%8Fimportant-precautions-to-avoid-issues-with-osmoseupdater\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Important precautions to avoid issues with OsmoseUpdater<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/expressivee.happyfox.com\/kb\/article\/292-i-don-t-have-any-presets-on-my-osmose-after-trying-to-update-to-firmware-2-0\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">I don&#8217;t have any presets on my Osmose after trying to update to firmware 2.0<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Performing-the-Firmware-Update\">Performing the Firmware Update<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Download-and-install-the-Osmose-Firmware-Updater-Utility\">Download and install the Osmose Firmware Updater Utility<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If a newer version is available on the <strong>My Downloads and Serials<\/strong> page, download the correct Osmose Updater installer for your computer. An Open dialog box will appear. Each component has its own separate firmware. The Osmose Updater app installs each one in turn. This is done in four steps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Backing up your presets from your Osmose to the computer<\/li><li>Updating the Osmose keyboard firmware<\/li><li>Updating the Haken EaganMatrix synthesizer firmware<\/li><li>Restoring your presets from the computer to the Osmose<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>TIP:<\/strong> The update process will take as long as 30 minutes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to keep an eye on the progress of the update.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong> Do not quit the Osmose Updater Utility during this time, and do not permit your computer to go into sleep mode.<br>Do not disconnect or shut down the Osmose keyboard until you are prompted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At one point in the process, after about 20 minutes, the front panel display on the Osmose will instruct you to \u201cpower cycle\u201d the keyboard, meaning to shut the power down, wait a few seconds, and turn the power back on again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After the first time you power cycle, the Osmose Updater Utility on your computer will perform additional steps. Then you will be prompted to power cycle the keyboard for the second time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Follow the prompts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Updater Utility and the display on the keyboard will notify you when everything is complete.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now you are updated, and it\u2019s time to play your new keyboard.
