Connect the other end to a power outlet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The instrument has no built-in speakers, so you will need to connect external speakers or headphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Make sure that the <strong>Master Volume<\/strong> on the front panel is turned all the way down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Plug in all the connections you need before you power up the instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Connections\">Connections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Standby\/On<\/strong>:The power switch has two positions. With the power cable connected and the switch in <strong>Standby<\/strong> mode, the keyboard is off, but a small amount of electrical power is provided to the unit. Connect a single cable with a 1\/4-inch TS plug into the L\/Mono jack to output a monaural audio signal to your speakers, mixer, or audio interface. Connect another cable with a 1\/4-inch TS plug into the R jack for stereo output.<\/li><li>The <strong>YC88<\/strong> and <strong>YC73<\/strong> provide the same pair of 1\/4-inch jacks but also provide a pair of balanced XLR outputs. You can use one pair of jacks or the other. If you use both, the same audio will be output from each pair.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Input<\/strong>: Connect an external audio device using monaural cables with 1\/4-inch TS plugs to get stereo input. The YC will mix the output of that device with that of the YC itself. Adjust the input volume using the <strong>Gain<\/strong> knob.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foot Controller<\/strong>: Connect one or two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC7--yamaha-fc7-volume-expression-pedal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha FC7 expression pedals<\/a>, sold separately. You can assign the pedals to different functions. By default, <strong>Foot Controller 1<\/strong> is assigned to \u201cExpression,\u201d and <strong>Foot Controller 2<\/strong> is assigned to \u201cPedal Wah.\u201d You can change function assignments on the front panel using the <strong>Settings<\/strong> button <strong>&gt; Controllers &gt; Foot Controller &gt; Assign<\/strong>. Refer to page 60 in the <strong>YC Owner\u2019s Manual<\/strong>, in the <strong>Control Change Number List chart<\/strong>, for a list of parameters that can be assigned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Foot Switch<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The <strong>Foot Switch Sustain<\/strong> jack accepts the included <strong>Yamaha FC3A<\/strong> continuous piano sustain pedal. You can also switch the pedal\u2019s function to switch the <strong>Rotary Speaker<\/strong> effect from <strong>Slow to Fast<\/strong>. Use the <strong>Settings button &gt; Controllers &gt; Sustain Pedal<\/strong>.<\/li><li>The <strong>Foot Switch Assignable<\/strong> jack can receive a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC4A--yamaha-fc4a-sustain-pedal-foot-switch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha FC4A<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC5--yamaha-fc5-foot-switch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FC5 footswitch<\/a>, sold separately, which you can assign to piano soft pedal, sostenuto, or other functions.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>MIDI<\/strong>: Connect standard 5-pin DIN MIDI cables to send and receive MIDI data from external keyboards or controllers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>USB<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>To Device<\/strong>: This USB-A connection accepts a compatible USB flash drive for saving your data, Voices and Live Sets, or installing a firmware upgrade. Format a flash drive on the YC itself, using the YC\u2019s File utility. For more information, consult the <strong>Owner\u2019s Manual<\/strong> in the section <strong>Saving \/ Loading Data<\/strong>.<\/li><li><strong>To Host<\/strong>: This USB-B port connects the instrument to a computer or device using a USB cable. This provides both <strong>MIDI over USB<\/strong> and <strong>digital audio over USB<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The YC73 and YC88 have two <strong>attachment brackets<\/strong> to hold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/CPMusicRest--yamaha-music-rest-for-cp73-cp88\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha\u2019s YMR-04 sheet music rest<\/a>, sold separately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Sound-Structure-on-the-Yamaha-YC-Stage\">Sound Structure on the Yamaha YC Stage<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The YC Stage has three instrument sections, called <strong>Voices<\/strong>. These can be assigned to different zones on the keyboard (by <strong>split points<\/strong>) or layered. Piano<\/strong>, <strong>Synth<\/strong>, and <strong>Others<\/strong>, which includes acoustic instrument and orchestral sounds. The <strong>red rocker switch<\/strong> enables the selection of different instrument sounds within each section. There are two <strong>Effects<\/strong> available in this section.
