Not only can you create beats directly from the device, but you can also use it for DAW control! So, in this article, we will show you how to register and set up the Aura Beat for the first time. Follow the sections below to get started!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"#Register-the-Nektar-Aura-Beat-Composer\"><strong>Register the Nektar Aura Beat<\/strong> <strong>Composer<\/strong><\/a><ul><li><a href=\"#Update-the-firmware\"><strong>Update the firmware\u00a0<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><a href=\"#Setup-and-Connections\"><strong>Setup and Connections<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Adjusting-Pad-Parameters\"><strong>Adjusting Pad Parameters<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Create-a-Sequence\">Create a Sequence<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Register-the-Nektar-Aura-Beat-Composer\">Register the Nektar Aura Beat Composer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before you get set up and connected, the first thing you must do is register the Aura Beat Composer with Nektar. Registering is necessary for downloading the DAW control maps and firmware, so be sure this is done before anything else.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"https:\/\/nektartech.com\/my-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Create an account<\/a> with Nektar. If you already have an account, you can log in on the <a href=\"https:\/\/nektartech.com\/my-account\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">same page<\/a>.<\/li><li>Enter the serial number, which you can find at the bottom of your Aura Beat. Once the product image shows, use the dropdown boxes to choose your OS and DAW(s).<\/li><li>Once your Aura Beat is registered, go to your account page and download Nektarine, the software that enables plug-in control for your Aura Beat Composer.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Update-the-firmware\">Update the firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once it is registered, you\u2019ll need to check the current firmware version installed on your Aura Beat Composer and compare that to the latest version listed on your account page. If it\u2019s out of date, you will need to update it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>On the Aura Beat, press and hold Internal, then press Menu. The firmware version will appear on the About page.<\/li><li>Go to your Nektar account page and check to see if it matches the latest version.<\/li><li>If the firmware on your Aura Beat Composer matches the one on your Nektar account page, skip this section and continue to Setup and Connections.<\/li><li>Turn off the power on the device.<\/li><li>Download the latest firmware on your Nektar account page, then navigate to your Downloads folder.<\/li><li>Extract Aura_Firmware_WIN_v******.zip and the .zip (PC) or .dmg (macOS) located within the subfolder.<\/li><li>Press and hold the Internal and Shift buttons on your Aura Beat Composer while turning on the device.<\/li><li>Press the display\u2019s bottom-right button to enter firmware update mode.<\/li><li>On your computer, launch nkupdate. The app should display \u201cOK Nektar unit is connected in firmware update mode.\u201d<\/li><li>On the app, click Load, find the Aura_FW_xxxx.bin file, then click Open. You should now see \u201cOK Correct firmware file has been loaded.\u201d<\/li><li>Click Program to begin the update. This also means no additional setup is required in your DAW, either! Simply set it as the primary MIDI input and output device, and you\u2019re all set.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The device has a MIDI Out connection that allows you to control external MIDI hardware and also comes with a TRS footswitch jack for transport control. You can even use a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c780--Insert_Y_Cables\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Y cable<\/a> to connect two footswitches, which you can assign to control two different MIDI parameters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Adjusting-Pad-Parameters\">Adjusting Pad Parameters<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once everything is set up and connected, it\u2019s time to personalize your Aura Beat Composer\u2019s pads.
