You\u2019ll be working with two primary sections: the <strong>Player<\/strong> and the <strong>music library<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Player\">Player<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three different Player views: Export, Performance (also referred to as<em> rekordbox DJ)<\/em>, and Lighting. It\u2019s where you can control the parameters of each track and adjust track locations, and it is the main window you\u2019ll be using during performances.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Waveform-display\">Waveform display<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Waveform-display-100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"338\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Waveform-display-100-1024x338.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1775858\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Waveform-display-100-1024x338.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Waveform-display-100-300x99.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Waveform-display-100-768x253.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Waveform-display-100.jpg 1441w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>Waveform display<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The waveform display is self-explanatory: it\u2019s where you\u2019ll see the track\u2019s waveform. The primary function of the waveform display is to navigate through the song to set cue points.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Click and drag along the waveform to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/scrub\/\">scrub<\/a> through the track to help fine-tune the start (or end) point of the song that is currently loaded. Once you\u2019ve selected that point, click <strong>Cue\/Loop<\/strong>, and within the Cue\/Loop panel, click a letter (<strong>A-H<\/strong>) to add a cue point.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Adjusting-the-beat-point\">Adjusting the beat point<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>When you import music, rekordbox automatically detects the tempo and aligns it to a <em>Grid<\/em>. When you click <strong>Beat Grid<\/strong>, you can view the beat points rekordbox added, which makes it easier to identify the downbeats of a track. However, there may be a time when it\u2019s incorrect. Fortunately, you can manually edit this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Click the three vertical lines, select <strong>Analyze Track (Normal)<\/strong>, then update the tempo range, key, and phrase if necessary. Once analyzed, the new beat grid will appear, indicated by vertical red lines.<\/li><li>If it\u2019s still offbeat, click and drag to scrub to the closest downbeat, then click the <strong>red and white bar<\/strong> button located to the left of the tempo to reset the beat grid.<ul><li>Click the <strong>Metronome <\/strong>icon to hear a click during playback. This will help you immensely when trying to find the downbeat!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Playlists-and-folders\">Playlists and folders<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Playlists-100.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"265\" height=\"320\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Playlists-100.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1775859\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Playlists-100.jpg 265w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Playlists-100-248x300.jpg 248w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 265px) 100vw, 265px\" \/><\/a><figcaption><em>Playlists<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>The bottom half of the rekordbox application is where you will manage your music. You can create and manage your playlists and group folders on the left side of the music library. The left panel is dedicated to playlists and folders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>rekordbox allows you to create and organize sets for your gigs. To create a playlist, highlight <strong>Playlist<\/strong> and click the <strong>+<\/strong> icon. Alternatively, right-click <strong>Playlists<\/strong> and then select <strong>Create New Playlist<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can also create folders to help organize your playlists even further. This is particularly useful if you organize music by dates, sub-genres, etc. To create a new folder, right-click <strong>Playlist<\/strong> and select <strong>Create New Folder<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>We recommend renaming your playlist to something identifiable, such as Rap Set, Dance Set, or Party Mix Set.<\/li><li>You can create a new playlist inside a folder by clicking the <strong>+ <\/strong>button. If you have an existing playlist you want to add, click and drag it to the folder where you want to add it.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Intelligent-Playlists\">Intelligent Playlists<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>One cool feature of rekordbox is the ability to create playlists based on specific parameters. This is especially useful if you have an extensive music library consisting of many different genres. Any music you import into rekordbox will be displayed here. You can sort and filter your songs any way you want, which makes it easy to adapt to your workflow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Click the <strong>gear <\/strong>icon to open rekordbox\u2019s preferences and click <strong>View<\/strong> to adjust global view settings.<\/li><li>Right-click anywhere in the <em>Collection <\/em>window to add or remove specific attributes you want to see listed. This helps filter out any unnecessary information needed (e.g., album art or date imported).<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Import-Music-in-rekordbox\">How to Import Music in rekordbox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you know the general layout of rekordbox, it\u2019s time to import your music! The process is straightforward. We highly recommend your music is stored in one specific place on your hard drive; this makes it much easier to locate everything. Check out our guide on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/file-management-for-music-production\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">file management<\/a> to learn more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Click <strong>File<\/strong>, select <strong>Import, <\/strong>then locate the folder where your music resides.<\/li><li>If you want to import specific songs, open the folder where the songs reside, then click and drag them into rekordbox.<\/li><li>Once you\u2019ve imported your music, it will then analyze the songs. rekordbox will also scan the song\u2019s key, BPM, genre, etc., based on the file\u2019s ID3 tag.<ul><li>Depending on how many songs you import, it may take a little time for rekordbox to analyze them!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Create-custom-tags\">Create custom tags<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While rekordbox scans for the ID3 metadata, you can create custom tags that you may not be able to add within the ID3 tag <em>(<\/em>e.g.,<em> high energy, situation)<\/em>. This is particularly useful when you\u2019re creating Intelligent playlists!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To create a custom tag, click the <strong>tag <\/strong>icon on the right side of the screen, click <strong>+<\/strong>, then enter your tag. This helps identify the song\u2019s information like artist, tempo, genre, etc. If the song doesn\u2019t have any ID3 tags, or if it\u2019s tagged incorrectly, you may be able to edit the tags if necessary. Click here to learn more!<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Enable-Stems-in-rekordbox\">How to Enable Stems in rekordbox<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Stem separation lets you remix parts from your favorite songs to make your set sound unique. In rekordbox, stem separation will split one audio track into three elements: vocal, instrument, and drums. Check out <a href=\"https:\/\/rekordbox.com\/en\/support\/faq\/stems-7\/\">rekordbox\u2019s FAQ page<\/a> to learn more about stems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To enable stems, click the <strong>Gear <\/strong>(Preferences) icon, select <strong>Extensions<\/strong>, then click the <em>STEMS <\/em>tab. You can then toggle the stem functionality on and off.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>When you\u2019re in the STEMS preferences, go to STEMS Analysis Process and choose <strong>Prioritize sound quality<\/strong>.
