Follow the sections below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li><a href=\"#Assign-and-Layer-Samples\"><strong>Assign and Layer Samples<\/strong><\/a><ul><li><a href=\"#Assign-samples\"><strong>Assign samples<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#Layer-samples\"><strong>Layer samples<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><a href=\"#Import-and-Record-Custom-Samples\"><strong>Import and Record Custom Samples<\/strong><\/a><ul><li><strong><a href=\"#Import-samples\">Import samples<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><a href=\"#Record-samples\"><strong>Record samples<\/strong><\/a><\/li><\/ul><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Export-Samples\">Export Samples<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Assign-and-Layer-Samples\"><strong>Assign and Layer Samples<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The SPD-SX Pro has hundreds of samples to work with and manipulate so you can get a truly unique sound. From layering to adjusting the playback mode, the possibilities are endless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Assign-samples\"><strong>Assign samples<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Assigning samples to pads couldn\u2019t be easier. It\u2019s just a matter of striking the pad, going to the sample edit menu, then selecting the sample.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Strike the pad where you want to assign the sample.<\/li><li>Press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, navigate to the <em>KIT EDIT1<\/em> page, then highlight and select <strong>PAD EDIT<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>UP <\/strong>button to change the category of sounds (the default <em>is set to ALL)<\/em>.<ul><li><strong>ALL<\/strong>: Both factory and user samples<\/li><li><strong>USER<\/strong>:Any samples you imported<\/li><li><strong>PRELOAD:<\/strong> All factory preset sounds<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Use the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to scroll through the samples. Continue to strike the pad to preview each sample.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Layer-samples\"><strong>Layer samples<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can layer samples to get a unique sound. You just need to make sure you turn on <strong>LAYER<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>While in <strong>PAD EDIT <\/strong>mode, use the <strong>RIGHT <\/strong>arrow to select LAYER B and the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to scroll through samples.<\/li><li>Once a sample is selected, press the <strong>DOWN <\/strong>arrow and use the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to adjust the volume and pitch.<\/li><li>Hold <strong>SHIFT <\/strong>and use the <strong>UP <\/strong>and <strong>DOWN <\/strong>arrows to adjust additional parameters such as EQ, transience, and Play Type (loop, one shot, poly\/mono, etc.).<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-pad-edit-screen-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"630\" height=\"357\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-pad-edit-screen-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1775737\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-pad-edit-screen-1.jpg 630w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-pad-edit-screen-1-300x170.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 630px) 100vw, 630px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Import-and-Record-Custom-Samples\"><strong>Import and Record Custom Samples<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The Roland SPD-SX Pro has 32GB of internal storage and supports 32GB of external memory with a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c1141--Flash_Drives\">USB thumb drive<\/a> formatted to <strong>FAT32, <\/strong>so the number of custom samples you can play with is endless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Import-samples\"><strong>Import samples<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>You must format USB thumb drives directly on the multipad before transferring samples.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While the SPD-SX Pro has some great samples already built in, you can also import custom samples with a USB thumb drive. Please note that the sample you import must be WAV, AIFF, or MP3.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect a USB thumb drive to the multipad.<\/li><li>Press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, navigate to the <strong>PAD EDIT <\/strong>menu, then select <strong>FORMAT<\/strong>.<ul><li>Please note that any data stored on the thumb drive will be erased when formatting, so be sure to back up anything you need beforehand!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once formatted, connect the USB thumb drive to your computer, locate the samples you want to load, then transfer them over.<\/li><li>Safely <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/how-to-safely-eject-an-external-hard-drive\/\">eject the thumb drive<\/a> from your computer and reconnect it to the SPD-SX Pro.<\/li><li>Press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, navigate to the <strong>WAVE <\/strong>menu, then select <strong>IMPORT<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Highlight the sample you want to import, press <strong>CHECK (F1)<\/strong>, then select <strong>IMPORT<\/strong>.<ul><li>Highlight the sample and press <strong>PREVIEW <\/strong>to preview the sample.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once imported, you can assign it to a pad, as outlined above.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Record-samples\"><strong>Record samples<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>We recommend waiting for a second or two after pressing the record button. This will make it easier to set the start point if you plan on editing the sample afterward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can record samples directly from the unit, from external sources via the <em>Line In <\/em>jack, or a mixture of both! What\u2019s more, you can edit the sample after you\u2019ve recorded it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, navigate to<strong> WAVE<\/strong>, then select <strong>SAMPLING<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Set the <em>Rec Source<\/em> to one of the following:<ul><li><strong>INPUT:<\/strong> Samples only the audio of the input device<\/li><li><strong>PAD: <\/strong>Sample only what you play on the instrument<\/li><li><strong>INPUT+PAD: <\/strong>A combination of both<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Set the <em>Rec Auto Trigger Level<\/em>. This is the input threshold where the sample is triggered.<\/li><li>Set the <em>Rec Channel Mode <\/em>to Stereo or Mono.<\/li><li>Set the <em>Rec Level<\/em>. This will set the recording level for the sample.<\/li><li>Once the settings are updated, press <strong>STANDBY (F1)<\/strong>, then press <strong>START (F2)<\/strong> to begin recording. Press it once more after you have finished.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-Recording-window.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"627\" height=\"352\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-Recording-window.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-1775735\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-Recording-window.jpg 627w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/11\/Roland-SPD-SX-Pro-Recording-window-300x168.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 627px) 100vw, 627px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Editing samples<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to trim the sample after recording, press <strong>WAVE EDIT (F6)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Use the <strong>LEFT <\/strong>and <strong>RIGHT <\/strong>buttons to switch between the Start and End points, then use the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to adjust the beginning and end of a sample.<\/li><li>Press <strong>PREVIEW (F5) <\/strong>to preview the sample at any time.<\/li><li>Press <strong>RENAME (F4)<\/strong> to rename the sample. Once you\u2019ve renamed the sample, press <strong>EXIT (F6) <\/strong>to return to the Edit screen.<\/li><li>Once you\u2019re happy with the result, press <strong>SAVE (F6)<\/strong>.<\/li><li>After you\u2019ve saved your sample, you can tag it, making it easier to locate when searching for sounds. Check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/static.roland.com\/manuals\/SPD-SX_PRO_reference_v102\/eng\/30557021.html\">SPD-SX Pro User Manual<\/a> to learn more!<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Export-Samples\"><strong>Export Samples<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>IMPORTANT<\/strong>: You cannot export factory sounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After you have recorded and edited your sample, the final thing you\u2019ll want to do is export it to a USB thumb drive to transfer it into your DAW or to your computer as a backup in case you need to perform a factory reset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect a USB thumb drive to the SPD-SX Pro, press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, then go to the <strong>BACKUP <\/strong>options.<\/li><li>Select <strong>FORMAT<\/strong>, press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>, then press <strong>FORMAT (F6)<\/strong>.<\/li><li>When prompted, select <strong>OK<\/strong> and press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<ul><li>Do not power off the device or disconnect the thumb drive during the formatting process.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once formatted, you\u2019ll receive a confirmation message.<\/li><li>After the USB thumb drive has been formatted, press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, then navigate to the <strong>WAVE <\/strong>options.<\/li><li>Select <strong>Export<\/strong>, then press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.
