After registering the module, you\u2019ll get access to Roland\u2019s product support, an extended warranty, training videos, and clinic information. Follow the steps below to register your TD-50X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Log in to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/backstage\/login#register_product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roland Backstage account<\/a>. So, if you want both MIDI <em>and <\/em>audio to be sent, you will need to download and install the driver before connecting the module to your computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to Roland\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/global\/support\/by_product\/td-50\/updates_drivers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">TD-50 Update and Driver page<\/a> and locate the latest version of the driver for your OS. While you\u2019re on this page, we recommend downloading the System Program (firmware) in case your module requires an update.<\/li><li>The driver will automatically be installed if you\u2019re a Windows PC user and your computer is connected to the Internet. Setup is simple, too. Here are a few tips for setting up your TD-50X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Keep the cabling tidy and use hook-and-loop straps or zip ties to secure cables to the rack. This will also help prevent any tangles.<\/li><li>Since there are a decent number of connections available, we recommend labelling your cables. By doing so, you\u2019ll know that a cable is connected to the correct drum or cymbal pad, so the right sound is triggered.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Hi-hat-calibration\">Hi-hat calibration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you set up your hi-hat, you must first calibrate it. While the default hi-hat settings are fine, you will want to calibrate it for the best response possible. Check out our calibration guide for instructions on calibrating your Roland hi-hat with the TD-50X.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/roland-vh-10-vh-11-vh-13-hi-hat-calibration\/\" class=\"relatedcontent_link\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-related-content\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_block\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2020\/02\/Roland-Hi-Hat-Calibration-Featured-Image.png);background-size:cover;background-position:center\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_overlay_content\"><\/div><div class=\"relatedcontent-text relatedcontent_content\"><p class=\"relatedcontent_title\" style=\"color:#fff\">Roland VH-10, VH-11, and VH-13 Hi-Hat Calibration Guide<\/p><p class=\"relatedcontent_subhead\" style=\"color:#fff;border:none\"><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Connect-to-a-computer\">Connect to a computer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Change the USB settings below <em>before <\/em>connecting the module to your computer! Updating the settings <em>after<\/em> connecting it can result in the module not working correctly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned above, when you connect the TD-50 module to your computer, you can strictly send MIDI data, which is good in situations where you want to use a virtual drum instrument (such as Superior Drummer). However, if you want to hear and record audio from the module, you must go into the module\u2019s settings and update the Driver Mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>Setup <\/strong>button to enter the system menu settings, then press the <strong>F2 <\/strong>button to enter the USB Audio settings.<\/li><li>Use the cursor arrows to select <em>Driver Mode<\/em>.<\/li><li>Use the + and &#8211; arrows to choose between <em>Generic <\/em>and <em>Vendor<\/em>.<\/li><li><strong>Generic<\/strong>: USB MIDI only.<\/li><li><strong>Vendor<\/strong>: USB MIDI and USB audio.<\/li><li>Once the <em>Driver Mode <\/em>is selected, connect the module to your computer to a USB 2.0 (high-speed) port. USB hub connections, particularly passive hubs, with the TD-50X are not recommended, as they may not provide enough power to transmit data.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/connecting-electronic-drums-to-your-computer\/\" class=\"relatedcontent_link\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-related-content\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_block\" style=\"background-image:url(https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2019\/01\/EDrums-to-Computer-Hero.png);background-size:cover;background-position:center\"><div class=\"relatedcontent_overlay_content\"><\/div><div class=\"relatedcontent-text relatedcontent_content\"><p class=\"relatedcontent_title\" style=\"color:#fff\">Connecting Electronic Drums to Your Computer<\/p><p class=\"relatedcontent_subhead\" style=\"color:#fff;border:none\"><\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Update-the-Module-Settings\">Update the Module Settings<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once everything is set up and connected, the final thing to do is update the pad settings on the TD-50X. Not only does this include sensitivity, threshold, and so on, but this also includes the pad type. This is particularly important if you\u2019re using different model pads.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Change-the-pad-type\">Change the pad type<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>As mentioned, you may need to change the pad type depending on your model. This ensures the most accurate response possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>Trigger <\/strong>button, then push the <strong>Page UP <\/strong>button until you reach the top page.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>F1 <\/strong>button, then select the pad you wish to configure.<\/li><li>Use the dial knob or + and &#8211; buttons to specify the trigger type. Refer to <a href=\"https:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/TD-50_DataList_eng03_W.pdf#page=23\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">page 23 of the Data List<\/a> for a complete list of the trigger types you can choose from.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Adjust-the-pad-performance\">Adjust the pad performance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>While the default performance settings are a great starting point, every drummer plays differently, so fine-tuning the pad settings will set you up for success. This process may take some time, but it\u2019s worth it in the end.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Sensitivity\">Sensitivity<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>TRIGGER <\/strong>button, then use the <strong>UP <\/strong>button until you reach the top page.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>F3 <\/strong>button to access the sensitivity settings.<\/li><li>Select the pad you want to update, then use the + and &#8211; buttons or the dial knob to adjust the sensitivity.<ul><li>The Global Sensitivity will adjust all the pads connected to the module. If you\u2019re a light player, set the global sensitivity to <strong>HIGH<\/strong>. If you want a broader dynamic range, set it to <strong>LOW<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Threshold\">Threshold<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>TRIGGER <\/strong>button, then use the <strong>DOWN <\/strong>button until you see the <strong>THRESHOLD <\/strong>tab.<\/li><li>Select the pad you want to update, then use the + and &#8211; buttons or the dial knob to adjust the various threshold settings.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Crosstalk\">Crosstalk<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>Make sure you securely fasten the pads to the stands and rack and that the kit is on a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c1197--Drum_Rugs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">drum rug<\/a>. This will heavily reduce vibration, the primary cause of crosstalk.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Most electronic kits have a crosstalk (Xtalk) feature, but the TD-50X takes it to the next level, as it will \u2018learn\u2019 the amount of crosstalk and adjust it appropriately. The module is shipped with optimized crosstalk settings, but if you do experience any crosstalk issues, follow these steps to adjust the settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>TRIGGER <\/strong>button, press the <strong>DOWN <\/strong>button until you see the <strong>TRIG <\/strong>tab, then press <strong>F2 <\/strong>to select <em>XTALK<\/em>.<\/li><li>Strike the pad that\u2019s experiencing crosstalk. You should see a \u2018spike\u2019 in the triggers triggering the crosstalk.
