You just need to slide it onto your kick drum hoop and tighten it enough that it won\u2019t move. If you\u2019re attaching the mic trigger to a metal kick drum hoop, which often has an uneven profile, be sure to install the included adhesive cushions on the inner and outer attachment points of your kick drum so it\u2019s securely fastened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/10\/Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"434\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/10\/Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram-1024x434.jpg\" alt=\"Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram\" class=\"wp-image-1775460\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/10\/Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram-1024x434.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/10\/Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram-300x127.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/10\/Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram-768x325.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/10\/Yamaha-EAD10-Metal-Hoops-Diagram.jpg 1112w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>EAD10 metal hoop attachment\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To get the best performance possible, here are a few tips for installing the mic trigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To eliminate the risk of unnecessary noise and potential physical damage, make sure that your rack toms don\u2019t touch the mic trigger.<\/li><li>Make sure your kick drum is the central point of your kit.<\/li><li>It is not recommended to use the EAD10 system with double kick drum setups, as drums and cymbals placed farther away will sound lower in volume.<ul><li>Similar to double kick drum setups, it\u2019s not recommended to have your cymbals placed too close or too far away from the mic trigger.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Use the included hook-and-loop ties to secure the cables to the kick drum\u2019s tension rod directly next to the module and the hi-hat stand. This reduces the risk of cables accidentally disconnecting.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Hardware-connections\">Hardware connections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After you install the EAD10 mic on your kick drum, you will next connect it to the module. Just match the cables labeled <strong>A<\/strong> and <strong>B<\/strong> to the outputs on the module. If you have a snare trigger, like the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/DT-50S--yamaha-dual-zone-drum-trigger-snare-tom\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha DT-50S<\/a>, connect it to the <strong>Snare (3\/4) <\/strong>jack. Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/files\/download\/other_assets\/9\/1134019\/ead10_en_rm_a0.pdf#page=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>EAD10 Reference Manual<\/strong><\/a> to learn more about how each trigger generates sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>You can also connect two 3-zone drum pads to Outputs 5 and 6, but you cannot change the sound settings for Outputs 5 and 6.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Computer-connections\">Computer connections<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>USB 3.0 cables and ports are not supported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One great feature of the EAD10 is connecting it to your computer. This is handy if you want to treat your acoustic drum kit as an electronic kit and want to use virtual instrument software. Follow these steps to connect the EAD10 to your computer. Once connected, continue below to learn about <strong>recording audio and MIDI<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/europe.yamaha.com\/en\/products\/musical_instruments\/drums\/ea_drums\/ead\/ead10\/downloads.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Yamaha EAD10 download page<\/a> and download and install the latest Yamaha driver.<\/li><li>Connect the module to your computer with a USB 2.0 cable, launch your DAW, and set the EAD10 as a MIDI device. So, if you have a guitar cab or PA speaker facing toward you, it will pick up any effects coming from them (e.g., distortion, delay).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that you have everything set up and connected, next you need to calibrate the gain and sensitivity of the mic trigger attached to your kick drum. While the factory setting is a great starting point, you may need to adjust the gain and sensitivity of the mic trigger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Automatic-gain-calibration\">Automatic gain calibration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Automatically calibrating the EAD10 is helpful as it will pick up individual drums and adjust everything according to your dynamic range. This is especially useful in larger, lively rooms where bleed could be an issue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Press the <strong>Microphone <\/strong>button, located to the right of the <strong>Menu <\/strong>button.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>F3 <\/strong>button (below AUTO), then strike each drum at performance level <strong>eight <\/strong>times.<ul><li><strong>Stop <\/strong>will appear on the display when calibration begins.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>After calibration is complete, <strong>Auto <\/strong>will reappear.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Manual-gain-calibration\">Manual gain calibration<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Automatic calibration is probably the best way to calibrate the mic sensor, but if you need to fine-tune anything (particularly if you\u2019re running into issues), manually calibrating the EAD10\u2019s mic sensor is the way to go. To do so, simply press the <strong>Microphone <\/strong>button, then press the <strong>+ <\/strong>and <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>buttons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Setting The Microphone Sensitivity W\/The EAD10\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/6Tjfziu_xPE?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Setting the Microphone Sensitivity With the EAD10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Trigger gain sensitivity<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Adjusting the sensitivity of the EAD10\u2019s built-in trigger and any additional triggers connected to the module is critical as it can make or break your performance. Click here to learn more!<\/p><\/div><\/div><\/a>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Record-Audio-and-MIDI\">How to Record Audio and MIDI<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>You can record audio in a few ways: to the module itself, to a USB flash drive, to your computer, or your mobile device via the <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/products\/musical_instruments\/drums\/el_drums\/apps\/rec_n_share\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Yamaha Rec\u2019N\u2019Share app<\/strong><\/a>. To record, press the <strong>RECORDER <\/strong>button to access the record mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once in record mode, press the <strong>F1 <\/strong>(REC) button and start playing. Once you\u2019re finished, press the <strong>F1 <\/strong>button once more. Please note any recordings saved to your module will be erased if you turn the module off, so be sure to export them to a USB flash drive beforehand!
