Like other pedals, you need to connect your guitar to the <strong>MONO\/L <\/strong>input and then use an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c786--Guitar_Instrument_Cables\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">instrument cable<\/a> to connect from the <strong>MONO\/L <\/strong>out to the guitar amp\u2019s input. If you use a keyboard or other stereo instrument, use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c807--Balanced_Cables_TRS_to_TRS\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">balanced TRS cables<\/a> and connect via the <strong>L <\/strong>and <strong>R <\/strong>outputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Saving-Presets-on-the-Pedal\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Saving Presets on the Pedal<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After you&#8217;ve found a tone you like, you can save the preset to one of 10 slots. To save the preset, use the <strong>Preset <\/strong>knob to choose which slot you wish to save it, then press and hold the knob. The preset number will begin flashing. It\u2019s class-compliant, which means no additional drivers are needed, and it\u2019s also bus-powered, so you don\u2019t need an external power supply. You will need to download the dedicated BMP plugin software to use it as an effects plugin, update the firmware, and adjust the buffer size<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ehx.com\/products\/big-muff-pi-hardware-plugin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">EHX\u2019s Big Muff Pi product page<\/a>, then select the installer for your OS.<\/li><li>Navigate to your <em>Downloads <\/em>folder, and extract the installer file.<\/li><li>Launch the installer and follow the on-screen instructions.<ul><li>The installer also includes the pedal\u2019s control panel, where you will update the firmware and change the buffer size.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Panic-button\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Panic button<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There is a <strong>Panic <\/strong>button located at the rear of the pedal. Use this if the pedal control becomes unresponsive to the BMP plug-in, or if audio isn\u2019t processing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Updating-the-Firmware\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Updating the Firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>You must be connected to the internet while updating the pedal\u2019s firmware.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There may be a time when you need to update the pedal\u2019s firmware. This is done via the plug-in software. Fortunately, Electro-Harmonix has made the firmware update process simple.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Load the plug-in onto an audio track. If you see \u201cFirmware Update Required\u2026\u201d, click <strong>OK<\/strong> to begin the firmware update process.<\/li><li>The letter \u2018b\u2019 will display on the LED display. It will cycle through numbers 0-9.<\/li><li>After the download has finished, the pedal will then restart.<\/li><li>On the plug-ins <strong>Settings <\/strong><em>(three horizontal lines) <\/em>menu, hover over <strong>Select Device<\/strong>, then click <strong>Audio <\/strong>to finish the update.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Factory-Reset\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Factory Reset<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>If the Big Muff Pi Hardware Plugin pedal begins acting erratically or you just need a fresh start, you will need to perform a factory reset. It can be done through the software or by opening the pedal if you aren\u2019t near a computer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Factory-reset-using-the-plug-in\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Factory reset using the plug-in<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Add the plug-in onto an audio track.<\/li><li>Navigate to the <strong>Settings<\/strong> menu, hover over <strong>About Hardware<\/strong>, then select <strong>Reset Factory Presets<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/09\/bmp-about-hardware.jpg\" alt=\"bmp about hardware window\" class=\"wp-image-1775003\" width=\"301\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/09\/bmp-about-hardware.jpg 601w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/09\/bmp-about-hardware-200x300.jpg 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 301px) 100vw, 301px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Click &#8216;Reset Factory Presets&#8230;&#8217; to perform a factory reset within the Big Muff plug-in.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Opening-the-pedal\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Opening the pedal<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Use a Phillips head screwdriver and remove the four screws on the bottom of the pedal.<\/li><li>Hold the <strong>F\/WARE FACTORY RESET <\/strong>button while power cycling the unit. You should see an \u2018r\u2019 on the LED display. The pedal will then restart.<ul><li>If it doesn\u2019t reset within 20 seconds, disconnect and reconnect the power supply.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"#\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"button flat s blue\">Return to top<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\"\/>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-Use-the-Plug-in\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft noUnderline customh2 swheader\">How to Use the Plug-in<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Due to limitations to the driver, Windows PC users can only run <strong>one <\/strong>instance of the plug-in per project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The BMP (Big Muff Pi Plug-in) effects plug-in is very versatile because you can use it as a standalone effects plug-in with the pedal and create and transfer presets to and from the pedal. This means you can get the same tones no matter the application. All you need to do is add the plug-in onto an audio track in your DAW, and you\u2019re good to go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you want to control the plug-in with the pedal, go to the <strong>Settings<\/strong>, hover over <strong>Select Device<\/strong>, then choose <strong>Control<\/strong>. Once you\u2019ve found the perfect tone, you can save it within the plug-in and transfer it to the pedal.
