Any other USB-C cable will not provide enough power to transfer data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s always exciting to take new gear out of the box, turn it on, and start playing, but with the RodeCaster Pro II and RodeCaster Duo, you must first go through some initial setup. When you first turn on the RodeCaster Pro II or RodeCaster Duo, you must update its firmware and set up the system options.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Download-and-Install-RODE-Central\">Download and Install RODE Central<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>RODE Central is the free standalone software for your computer and audio routing, <em>SMART PADs<\/em> customization, and hardware configuration. You must also download RODE Central to perform firmware updates via USB.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en\/software\/rode-central\">RODE Central download page<\/a>, click <strong>Download Now<\/strong>, then select the file for your OS.<\/li><li>Navigate to your <em>Downloads <\/em>folder, then extract and launch the installer.<\/li><li>Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the installation process.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en\/software\/rode-central\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"1024\" height=\"488\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/08\/Rode-Central-Download-Page-1-1024x488.jpg\" alt=\"Rode-Central-Download-Page\" class=\"wp-image-1778679\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/08\/Rode-Central-Download-Page-1-1024x488.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/08\/Rode-Central-Download-Page-1-300x143.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/08\/Rode-Central-Download-Page-1-768x366.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2022\/08\/Rode-Central-Download-Page-1.jpg 1285w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Download-ASIO-Drivers-(Windows-PC-Users-Only)\">Download ASIO Drivers (Windows PC Users Only)<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The RodeCaster Pro II and RodeCaster Duo are class-compliant on Mac, meaning no additional driver software is required. However, Windows PC users must download and install the <a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en-us\/interfaces-and-mixers\/rodecaster-series\/rodecaster-pro-ii#section-downloads\">RodeCaster Pro II driver<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en-us\/interfaces-and-mixers\/rodecaster-series\/rodecaster-duo#section-downloads\">RodeCaster Duo driver<\/a> before connecting the RodeCaster to a Windows-based computer. If you connect the device to your computer before installing the driver, a generic Windows driver will be installed, which is often unreliable, particularly with recording software. Check out our guide about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/roland-difference-between-asio-wdm-mme-drivers\/\">ASIO drivers to learn more<\/a>!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"RodeCaster-Pro-II-and-RodeCaster-Duo-Firmware-Update\">RodeCaster Pro II and RodeCaster Duo Firmware Update<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>RODE will periodically release firmware updates that address bugs and add new features to your RodeCaster Pro II and RodeCaster Duo. If your device came from the factory with old firmware, you must update it as soon as you turn it on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>When you turn the unit on for the first time, you will be prompted to update the firmware. Press <strong>Get Updated<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select Wi-Fi, Wired, or <a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en\/software\/rode-central\">RODE Central<\/a>.<\/li><li>If updating via RODE Central, connect the RodeCaster Pro II or RodeCaster Duo to your computer, launch the application, and select the device from the list on the left side of the screen. Then click <strong>Information<\/strong> and select <strong>firmware update<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Once the firmware update is complete, the unit will restart.<\/li><li>Don\u2019t turn off the unit during the update process!<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Update-Hardware-Settings\">Update Hardware Settings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>After you\u2019ve completed the initial firmware update, you\u2019ll need to update the internal hardware settings, such as the time and date.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>After the unit restarts, press <strong>Getting Started<\/strong>, then follow the on-screen prompts.<\/li><li>To set the time and date, use the large, green encoder (to the right of the display).<\/li><li>Select Wi-Fi, Wired, or RODE Central.<ul><li>If you\u2019re not using RODE Central, we highly recommend using the wired Ethernet port, especially if you have a weak Wi-Fi signal.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial system setup.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Factory-Reset\">Factory Reset<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re having issues with your RodeCaster Pro II or RodeCaster Duo, or if you need a fresh start, you\u2019ll need to perform a factory reset. To do so, press the <strong>gear <\/strong>icon, press <strong>System<\/strong>, press <strong>Information<\/strong>, then press <strong>Factory Reset<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Project-Setup-Wizard\">Project Setup Wizard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve installed the latest firmware and updated the hardware settings, you\u2019ll be asked to either create a project from a factory preset template, import an existing project, or use the <strong>Setup Wizard<\/strong>. This guide will show you how to use the Setup Wizard and give you an idea of how you should create a custom project from scratch.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>After you\u2019ve completed the hardware setup, you will be taken to the project creation window.<\/li><li>For this guide, choose <strong>Setup Wizard<\/strong>.<\/li><li>On the next screen, set your faders to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/what-is-unity-gain-and-why-should-i-care\/\">Unity<\/a>, then press the <strong>Next <\/strong>arrow.<ul><li>Check out our article about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/gain-staging\/\">Unity and gain staging<\/a> to learn more!<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Turn down the four headphone level encoders (upper-right corner of the RodeCaster Pro II). Here are a few things to remember when setting up virtual channels:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Connect a USB cable to the USB 1 jack to use the channel as a stereo input and multi-out device.<\/li><li>You can also use the USB 1 jack to utilize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/mix-minus\/\">mix-minus<\/a> feature.<\/li><li>Connect a USB cable to the USB 2 jack to add an additional input and output device.<\/li><li>You must connect mobile devices to the USB 2 jack.<\/li><li>If you are using a streaming platform on a PC, you must use the USB 2 jack and choose the RodeCaster secondary audio device as your input and output.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Output-Routing\">Output Routing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>You can also adjust all input and output settings in the RODE Central app.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All audio will be summed to a single stereo (L+R) mix by default. If you need to record tracks on separate tracks, select Multitrack mode. This will allow channels to be recorded as individual mono tracks. Multichannel mode is handy if you need to adjust things such as EQ and compression on individual channels during post production. Follow these steps to turn on Multichannel mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>From the main screen, press the <strong>gear<\/strong> icon, then press <strong>Multichannel<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select <strong>Pre-Fader <\/strong>(hardware faders will be ignored) or <strong>Post-Fader<\/strong>.<ul><li>Press <strong>Bypass Processing<\/strong> if you want to exclude any onboard effects currently applied to the track.<\/li><li><strong>Post-Fader <\/strong>will include all effects and fader positions.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Custom-Routing\">Custom Routing<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>One great thing about the RodeCaster Pro II and RodeCaster Duo is that you create custom routing. This is especially handy when you have guests calling in or when you\u2019re utilizing the Bluetooth channel. There are many different ways to work with callers and online guests, so check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en\/user-guides\/rodecaster-pro-ii\/connecting-callers-and-online-guests\">RodeCaster Pro II User Guide<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/rode.com\/en-us\/user-guides\/rodecaster-duo\">RodeCaster Duo User Guide<\/a> to learn more!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Recording-Your-First-Project\">Recording Your First Project<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After everything is set up, it\u2019s time to start recording! You can record to a computer, an SD card, or an external hard drive. You can also record to an SD card and external hard drive simultaneously!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"SD-Card-and-External-Hard-Drive\">SD Card and External Hard Drive<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffcfd3\"><strong>IMPORTANT! <\/strong>You must format external storage devices on the RodeCaster Pro II and RodeCaster Duo, so be sure to back up any stored data on the device!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are away from your computer, you can still create content by inserting a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/search.php?s=micro+sd+card\">micro SD card<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c774--External_Hard_Drives\">external hard drive<\/a> into the unit. You can also record to both devices at the same time! You will be prompted to format the drive when you first connect the SD card or external hard drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To start recording, press the <strong>REC <\/strong>button once the external storage device has been connected and formatted. Once you\u2019ve finished recording, press it again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>The device will record three seconds of silence when you press record. Be sure to select USB 1, which is set up to be recognized as a multichannel device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using a computer, you can record multitrack audio in a DAW.
