After registering and installing the software, you can launch the desktop app or load it as a virtual instrument track. Most of the functions remain the same, both as a plug-in inside a DAW and in standalone mode. If you just want to practice some music or need to get a quick arrangement down, use standalone mode to save some time. If you’re planning on recording, consider using it as a virtual instrument within your DAW.

Toontrack Software Activation Instructions

EZdrummer 3 audio and MIDI setup

Suppose you plan on using EZdrummer 3 in standalone mode with an external audio interface, MIDI controller, or electronic drums. In that case, the first thing you must do is update EZdrummer 3’s audio and MIDI settings. The process is straightforward, so follow these instructions to get set up.

When using EZdrummer 3 as a virtual instrument inside your DAW, all audio and MIDI settings are done through your DAW. If this is the case, you can skip this section and continue to Creating a custom drum kit.

Click Settings, then choose Audio/MIDI Setup…

Update the following settings as necessary:

Audio device type: Updates your default playback device driver settings. As mentioned above, this is the window where you’ll choose, create, and edit drum kits and update their parameters. If you don’t have a MIDI controller, you can also record MIDI parts by clicking in the rhythm.

Grooves

Toontrack has included hundreds of drum grooves sorted by genre, play style, tempo, and time signature. If you want to send each drum to a different output, Click Out 1 /2 and choose a different output.
