If you\u2019re not sure what version you\u2019re on, launch FL Studio, click <strong>Help<\/strong>, then select <strong>About<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When you register your FLkey with Novation, you\u2019ll receive a free six-month <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FLStu20Pro--image-line-fl-studio-20-producer-edition\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FL Studio Producer Edition<\/a> trial. If you\u2019re already an FL Studio user, you should still register it, as you\u2019ll also gain access to a plethora of audio effects plug-ins and virtual instrument bundles. While you can register your FLkey from the <a href=\"https:\/\/customer.focusritegroup.com\/en\/register\/product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Novation website<\/a>, we recommend following these steps to get up and running fast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/customer.focusritegroup.com\/en\/getstarted\/begin\/f3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">FLkey registration page<\/a>, and click <strong>Let\u2019s get you started<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If you already have a Novation account, click the log in link on the left side of the page. If you don\u2019t fill out the sign-up sheet, then click <strong>Create new account<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Enter the serial number located on the bottom of the product, then click <strong>Set serial number<\/strong>.<\/li><li>To access your software bundles, click <strong>My Software<\/strong>. Firmware updates are performed using their standalone Novation Components software, which couldn\u2019t be easier. You can either download and install the software to your computer; or if you use a browser compatible with WebMIDI<em>, <\/em>such as Opera, Chrome, or Microsoft Edge, you can update it through the Components website.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect the FLkey to your computer, then launch the Components application.&nbsp;<ul><li>Alternatively, visit the <a href=\"https:\/\/components.novationmusic.com\/flkey\/updates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Novation Components update page<\/a> using a WebMIDI compatible browser.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Click the <strong>Updates<\/strong> tab, then click <strong>Update Firmware<\/strong>.<\/li><li>When prompted, press the top <strong>Channel Rack<\/strong> button to install the update.<\/li><li>Once complete, the FLkey should restart itself. Disconnect the FLkey, then hold the <strong>+ <\/strong>and &#8211; buttons while reconnecting it to disable this.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One great thing about the FLkey is that it\u2019s fully integrated with FL Studio version 20.9.2 and above, which makes it a proper plug-and-play device. The FLkey should be recognized and be set up automatically within the latest version of FL Studio, but if it isn\u2019t, you will need to set it up manually within the MIDI Settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect the FLkey, then launch FL Studio.<\/li><li>Navigate to <strong>Options<\/strong>, then select <strong>MIDI Settings<\/strong>. Alternatively, you can use the <strong>F10 <\/strong>hotkey to open the MIDI Settings window.<\/li><li>Click the <strong>Enable <\/strong>button for both the FLkey MIDI and FLkey DAW input ports in the <em>Input<\/em> panel:<ul><li>FLkey MIDI Out<\/li><li>FLkey DAW Out. It will be listed as MIDIOUT2 (FLkey MIDI) on PC.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Select the FLkey MIDI Input and DAW Input, then change their <strong>Port number<\/strong> by hovering your mouse over the red box, then clicking and dragging it up or down.<ul><li>Make sure the Port numbers are set to anything but 0, and they must be different from each other.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Select the FLkey MIDI Input and DAW Input; use the <strong>Controller type<\/strong>dropdown and select the script for the FLKey model you\u2019re using (FLkey Mini MIDI or FLkey 37 MIDI).&nbsp;<ul><li>The scripts are on the upper right of the dropdown window.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>In the <em>Outputs<\/em> section, select the MIDI and DAW (MIDIOUT2on PC) and update the ports to match those of the input ports you just set. Don\u2019t worry, though! You can recalibrate both using the Novation Components website (or standalone application). The process is simple, too!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All you need to do is connect your FLkey, launch Novation Components, click the <strong>Updates<\/strong> tab, select <strong>Calibrate Mod and Pitch Wheels<\/strong>, then follow the on-screen instructions. Novation has created plenty of factory custom modes that change the behavior of pads and pots, but you can also create your own from scratch to speed up your workflow even further!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol type=\"1\"><li>Connect your FLkey, then go to the <a href=\"https:\/\/components.novationmusic.com\/flkey\/custom-modes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Novation Components Custom Mode page<\/a>.<\/li><li>If you want to send one of Novation\u2019s custom templates, just click it, then select <strong>Send to FLkey<\/strong>.<\/li><li>If you want to create a custom mode from scratch, click <strong>New Custom Mode<\/strong>, then choose <strong>Create Custom Mode<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select what you want to edit (Pots or Pads), then update the various parameters.<\/li><li>At the top left of the window, rename the mode so it\u2019s easily identifiable, then click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Select it in the list on the left side of the page, then click <strong>Send to FLkey<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Hold the shift pad on the FLkey and press the <strong>Custom <\/strong>pad.
