From time to time, BOSS will release new firmware for the GX-100 and the GX-10 that will fix bugs and may provide new effects, models and features. Boss refers to their firmware as a “System Program.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Updating the firmware is also necessary to ensure that your GX unit will work with the BOSS Tone Studio app for your computer or mobile device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Follow the instructions below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

IMPORTANT! Check the current version<\/strong>

Before you update, check your GX-100 or GX-10’s current system program version. Power on the unit and view the version number in the lower right corner of the touch display. Power off after verifying the current version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

How to update GX-100 and GX-10 firmware<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

IMPORTANT! The GX-100 and the GX-10 have different firmware files!<\/strong>

Don’t try to install the GX-100 firmware into the GX-10, or vice-versa. Doing so could corrupt your unit and leave it in an inoperable state requiring servicing by BOSS.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You update the firmware by connecting your GX unit to your Mac or Windows computer using a USB data cable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

First you need to install the BOSS driver onto your computer. Then you can get your computer to recognize the GX unit’s USB connection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Next, you download the correct firmware from the BOSS website to your computer, upload the new firmware file from your computer to your GX unit, and run the installation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Driver and Firmware for the GX-100<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Install the Driver for the GX-100<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
  1. On your computer, go to the GX-100 Updates and Drivers<\/a> page and click on the newest GX-100 Driver<\/strong> for your version of macOS or Windows.<\/li>
  2. In the following page you’ll see instructions on installing the driver. Review them carefully.<\/li>
  3. Scroll to the bottom, check the box next to “I agree and wish to proceed with download.” Click the Download<\/strong> button.<\/li>
  4. Extract the compressed .tgz file. A new folder with the name GX100USBDriver<\/strong> or similar will be in your downloads folder.<\/li>
  5. Run the installer package in the folder. When the installation is complete, you will be instructed to restart your computer.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

    Install the Firmware for the GX-100<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
    1. On your computer, go to the GX-100 Updates and Drivers<\/a> page and click on the newest GX-100 System Program<\/strong> link.<\/li>
    2. In the following page you’ll see instructions on installing the firmware. Review them carefully.<\/li>
    3. Scroll to the bottom, check the box next to “I agree and wish to proceed with download.” Click the Download<\/strong> button.<\/li>
    4. Extract the compressed .zip<\/strong> file. The required files will be inside the folder that’s created.<\/li>
    5. On the GX-100, hold down the WRITE<\/strong> button and turn on the power. Continue holding the WRITE<\/strong> button until \u201cGX-100 Updater\u201d appears on the display.<\/li>
    6. Use a standard USB-A to USB-B cable to connect the GX-100\u2019s USB port to your computer. Use an adapter if needed. Power on the GX-100.<\/li>
    7. You will see a new drive icon in the Mac Finder or the Windows Explorer, named GX-100<\/strong>.<\/li>
    8. Copy or drag and drop all the files in the downloaded folder on your computer to the root directory of the GX-100<\/strong> drive.<\/li>
    9. Once the copying is completed, use the Eject command in macOS or Windows to eject the drive on your computer. The firmware update process will start.<\/li>
    10. Be patient as the firmware update will take 3 minutes or longer to complete. Do not power off the GX-100 and do not touch any of its controls.<\/li>
    11. Wait until the message \u201cCOMPLETE\u201d appears on the GX-100’s display.<\/li>
    12. Power off GX-100 and restart.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n

      Install the Driver for the GX-10<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
      1. On your computer, go to the GX-10 Updates and Drivers<\/a> page and click on the newest GX-10 Driver<\/strong> for your version of macOS or Windows.<\/li>
      2. In the following page you’ll see instructions on installing the driver. Review them carefully.<\/li>
      3. Scroll to the bottom, check the box next to “I agree and wish to proceed with download.” Click the Download<\/strong> button.<\/li>
      4. Extract the compressed .tgz file. A new folder with the name GX10USBDriver<\/strong> or similar will be in your downloads folder.<\/li>
