After registering the unit, you can access Roland product support, an extended warranty, training videos, and more. Follow the steps below to register the unit, and then continue below to <strong><a href=\"#SD-card-setup\">SD card setup<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li> Scan the QR code on the orange card that came in the box, or go to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roland.com\/start\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">www.roland.com\/start<\/a>. <\/li><li> Scroll down to the sign-in section. <\/li><li> Sign in to your Roland Backstage account. If you don\u2019t have one yet, then select the \u201cNew to Roland?\u201d tab. <\/li><li> If you scanned the orange card\u2019s QR code, then the serial number field should be auto-filled. Before updating the firmware, check to see if you are already on the latest system version. If you are, then skip these steps and continue to <strong>Setup and connections<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>\nHold\n\tdown <strong>SHIFT<\/strong>\n\tand tap pad <strong>13<\/strong>.\n\t<ul><li>\nThe\n\t\tUTILITY MENU screen appears.\n\t<\/li><\/ul>\n\t<\/li><li>\nTurn\n\tthe <strong>PUSH\n\tENTER<\/strong>\n\tknob to select \u201cSYSTEM,\u201d then press the <strong>PUSH\n\tENTER<\/strong>\n\tknob.\n\t<\/li><li>\nTurn\n\tthe <strong>CTRL\n\t3<\/strong>\n\tknob clockwise as far as it\u2019ll go.\n\t<ul><li>\nThe\n\t\tversion information is displayed on the screen.\n\t<\/li><\/ul>\n\t<\/li><li>\nPress\n\t<strong>EXIT<\/strong>\n\tto go back to the initial screen.\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Update-the-firmware\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Update the firmware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>IMPORTANT:\n<\/strong>Never\nturn off the power while the update is in progress! Doing so may\nresult in your device becoming inoperable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are not on the latest version, then follow these steps to update your SP-404MKII.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li> Download the latest System Program from Roland\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/global\/products\/sp-404mk2\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">SP-404MKII downloads section<\/a>. <\/li><li> Format an SD card as described in the <strong>Formatting an SD Card<\/strong> instructions below. <\/li><li> Copy the update files<em> (SP404MKII_APP0.bin, SP404MKII_APP1.bin)<\/em> to the root folder of the SD card using a computer with an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/CardReadUSB--siig-usb-2.0-multi-card-reader\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">SD card reader<\/a>. <\/li><li> Insert the SD card into the SD card slot of the unit. <\/li><li> Hold down <strong>SHIFT<\/strong> and turn on the power. <ul><li> \u201cUPDATE SURE?\u201d is displayed on the screen.  <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li> Press the <strong>PUSH ENTER<\/strong> knob to begin the update. <ul><li> When \u201cUPDATE COMPLETE!\u201d appears, the update has finished.  <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li> Power off the unit, then power it back on. <\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"aligncenter size-large is-resized\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/global\/products\/sp-404mk2\/downloads\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2021\/11\/SP404MKII-download-page-1024x394.jpg\" alt=\"SP404MKII download page\" class=\"wp-image-1771448\" width=\"512\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2021\/11\/SP404MKII-download-page-1024x394.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2021\/11\/SP404MKII-download-page-300x116.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2021\/11\/SP404MKII-download-page-768x296.jpg 768w, https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/media\/2021\/11\/SP404MKII-download-page.jpg 1114w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 512px) 100vw, 512px\" \/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><em>Click the image to download the SP-404MKII System Program file<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"SD-card-setup\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft noUnderline customh2 swheader\">SD card setup<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>:\nSome SD card types or SD cards from some manufacturers may not record\nor play back correctly on the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before\ninserting the SD card into the unit, ensure that the LOCK tab is not\nin the locked position. Tab up is usually the unlocked position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The\nSP-404MKII has an SD card slot for importing, exporting, backing up,\nand restoring the unit. Below is the SD card folder structure once\nthe SD card is formatted on the unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Formatting-the-SD-card\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Formatting the SD card<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Never turn off the power or remove the SD card while the screen indicates \u201cWorking&#8230;\u201d  Doing so may result in your device becoming inoperable. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column\">\n<p>To\nuse an SD card with this unit, you must first format it on the unit.\nFormatting the SD card will erase ALL files on the SD card. If you\nhave files that you need on the SD card, then be sure to transfer\nthem to another computer or storage device.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li> Insert the SD card into the SD card slot. <\/li><li> Hold down the <strong>SHIFT<\/strong> button and press pad <strong>14<\/strong>. <ul><li>The IMPORT\/EXPORT MENU screen appears. <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Turn the <strong>PUSH ENTER<\/strong> knob to select \u201c<strong>FORMAT SD-CARD<\/strong>,\u201d then press the <strong>PUSH ENTER<\/strong> knob. A confirmation message appears. <ul><li> If you decide to cancel, press the <strong>EXIT<\/strong> button.  <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li> Use the <strong>PUSH ENTER<\/strong> knob to select \u201cOK,\u201d then press the <strong>PUSH ENTER<\/strong> knob. <ul><li> The SD card is now formatted. The easiest setup to get sound out would be to connect\nheadphones to either of the headphone jacks on the front or to\nconnect speakers to the line out jacks on the back. Make sure the\n\tMIC\/GUITAR switch to the left of this input is set to what you have\n\tconnected. The SP-404MKII can also be powered via a USB-C to USB-C cable from a power source that can provide 5V of output voltage and 1.5 amps or more of output current. <ul><li>You cannot use a USB-C to USB-A cable to power the unit (cable not included). <\/li><\/ul><\/li><li> <strong>MIDI IN <\/strong>and<strong> OUT:<\/strong> Use this to connect MIDI devices with a Type A TRS to MIDI adapter (adapters not included). <\/li><li> <strong>LINE IN L\/MONO <\/strong>and<strong> R:<\/strong> Use these unbalanced inputs to get line-level audio signals into the SP-404MKII. If connecting a mono source, then use only the L\/MONO jack.  <\/li><li> <strong>LINE OUT L\/MONO <\/strong>and<strong> R:<\/strong> Use these line-level balanced outputs to take the audio signal out of the SP-404MKII. If you are outputting mono only, then use the L\/MONO jack.  <\/li><li> When connecting speakers, be sure to turn on your speakers last after the SP-404MKII is on and connected.
