These updates will fix known bugs and add new features. Quality updates are released often (typically the second Tuesday of every month), which include bug and security patches. Feature updates, on the other hand, only come out once every six months. These updates will often add new features, enhancements, and will improve the performance of the OS.

At times, these updates may address some bugs but can create others. There could also be a time when an update fails to install correctly. Sometimes this can result in system instability, driver and performance issues, and in severe cases, hard crashes and the inability to boot into Windows 11. Updates can sometimes lead to software incompatibility, as well, particularly when a Feature update is installed. So, if you’ve been troubleshooting system issues and nothing has worked, rolling back Windows 11 may be the solution.

Whenever you need to roll back, you should always back up any and all personal files in case something goes wrong, so be sure to have an external hard drive on hand!

Shop All External Hard Drives 💾

Windows 11 rollback grace period

Ever since the Windows 10 Anniversary Update (version 1607), Microsoft shortened the length of time you can use the rollback feature. Prior to this biannual update, you had a 30-day grace period. Once the Anniversary Update was released, Microsoft shortened the rollback grace period to 10 days. If you miss the 10-day time frame, then you will need to perform a clean install of the previous version of Windows 11 manually.

If you aren’t sure whether you’re within the 10-day grace period, click the Windows icon, then type Reset.
