Upon registration, you\u2019ll\nget access to Roland\u2019s product support, an extended warranty, training videos,\nand clinic information. Follow the steps below to register the synth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Log in to your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/backstage\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roland Backstage account<\/a>. You can connect guitars via the 1\/4-inch inputjacks to utilize its internal effects, microphones via the XLR connection, MIDI\nto integrate it with external synthesizers, and USB so you can use it as an\naudio interface!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Use the Line\/Guitar switch to change the impedance of the input jack.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The XLR connection will be disabled if something is connected to the rear 1\/4-inch input jack.<\/li><li>Condenser microphones cannot be used because the JD-Xi only provides 5V of power.&nbsp;<\/li><li>If you\u2019re using a microphone other than the one included, you will need to change the XLR port settings. Think of a Program as a song.&nbsp;Programs are separated and\nstored into banks (A-H). To access different Programs, you\u2019ll use the <strong>+ <\/strong>and\n<strong>&#8211; <\/strong>buttons, and if you hold the <strong>Shift <\/strong>button while pressing the <strong>+\n<\/strong>or <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>button, you will then change banks.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Use the <strong>+<\/strong> or <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>button while holding <strong>Shift<\/strong> to change the bank, and use the <strong>+ <\/strong>or <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>button to change the patch until you see <strong>INIT PROGRAM <\/strong>on the display.<\/li><li>Press one of the four sound generators (Digital Synth 1, Digital Synth 2, Drums, Analog Synth).<\/li><li>Use the various controls on the JD-Xi to alter and record the sound to your liking.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Saving-Programs-and-patterns\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Saving Programs and patterns<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you\u2019ve dialed in your sounds and before you\nstart recording patterns, now is a great time to save your Program. If you\naccidentally change to a different patch, everything will revert, and any\nchanges you made will be lost. Remember, a Program also stores sequence data,\neffects, and filter alterations, so all of those will be lost, too. Follow\nthese steps to save a Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Press and hold the <strong>Shift <\/strong>button and press the <strong>Menu\/Write<\/strong> button.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Use the <strong>+ <\/strong>and <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>buttons to change the letter, the <strong>left <\/strong>and <strong>right arrow<\/strong> buttons to move the cursor, then press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>+ <\/strong>and <strong>&#8211;<\/strong> buttons to select which bank and patch number you want to save the Program to, then press <strong>Enter<\/strong>.<ul><li>Please note that you can\u2019t overwrite any factory presets.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press <strong>Enter <\/strong>to confirm.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Roland JD-Xi - Programs, Banks, and Favorites\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/Dk7L5KuvMms?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Programs, Banks, and Favorites<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Recording-patterns\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Recording patterns<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You can record a pattern in a few different ways: step recording (TR-REC) and live recording. Depending on which sound generator you\u2019re recording, you may choose one option over the other, but all three are straightforward. Check out the <a href=\"http:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/JD-Xi_eng06_W.pdf#page=10\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">owner\u2019s manual<\/a> to get an in-depth look on recording.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Step-record\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Step record<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Step recording allows you to record one note\nat a time. It\u2019s handy for when notes need to be on time, such as synth lead or\narpeggiator. While in Step Record mode, you can adjust the length of each note,\nadjust the velocity, and add ties and rests. Follow these steps to step record.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Press the <strong>Part Select <\/strong>button to choose the sound generator you want to record.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Step Record<\/strong> to \u201carm\u201d the track.<\/li><li>Begin performing one note at a time until you\u2019ve reached the end of the pattern.<ul><li>Add ties by pressing the <strong>ARPEGGIO <\/strong>button, and press <strong>Erase<\/strong> to add a rest or delete the data.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press <strong>Step Record<\/strong> to stop recording.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed-youtube wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Roland JD-Xi - How to use Step recording\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/1l8a_cKZOwo?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>How to Use Step Recording <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"TR-REC\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">TR-REC<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>TR-REC is similar to step recording in that you\nwill input one note at a time. However, instead of using the keys to input each\nnote, you will press the note on the keyboard you want to trigger and use the\n16 step pads to specify when the note will sound. Using TR-REC is very useful\nwhen programming drum beats.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Real-time-record\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Real-time record<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Real-time recording is self-explanatory. Just press <strong>Realtime Rec<\/strong>, press the <strong>Play<\/strong> button, and start playing. Once you\u2019re finished, press the <strong>Play <\/strong>button again. If you need to play to a metronome, you can enable it within the Click settings.
