MODX Parts, Performances, and Live Sets<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Before\nwe dive in and show you how to create your own preset, you need to\nknow the MODX sound path and its terms. While you can edit sounds in\nan infinite number of ways, a preset on a MODX breaks down to three\nthings: Elements<\/strong>,\nParts<\/strong>,\nand Performances<\/strong>.\nYou can then add Performancesto\na Live\nSet<\/strong>.\nThink of a Live Set as a set list: a collection of presets that you\ncan recall on the spot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- There are three different elements: FMX<\/strong> (synth sound), AWM2<\/strong> (used for a pitched instrument that is played over the full range of the keyboard like a piano), and Drum<\/strong> (percussion\/drum sounds that are assigned to individual notes). <\/li>
- You can add up to eight Elements to a Part, 16 Parts per Performance, and 16 Performances to a Live Set. <\/li>

How to create a Performance<\/h2>\n\n\n\n
Creating\na Performance on a MODX is straightforward. All you do is select one\nof the preset Parts, import one from a thumb drive or create one from\nscratch, and then save it as a user preset.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- \nPress\n\tthe Category\n\tSearch<\/strong>\n\tbutton, and select the bank where the Parts are.\n\t<\/li>
- \nPress\n\tthe Sound group you wish to choose from (e.g., Piano, SynLead,\n\tPad\/Choir),and\n\tthen select the part you want to add. \n\t
- \nIf\n\t\tyou wish to create an empty Part, press the Init\n\t\t<\/strong>button,\n\t\tand select the Element: AWM2<\/strong>,\n\t\tFM-X<\/strong>,\n\t\tor Drum<\/strong>.\n\t\t<\/li>
- \nPreset\n\t\tPerformances typically have multiple Parts, so you may need to edit\n\t\tthem within the Performance Edit window.\n\t<\/li><\/ul>\n\t<\/li>
- \nPress\n\tthe Exit\n\t<\/strong>button\n\tto return to the Performance Edit window.\n\t
- \nTo\n\t\tadd additional parts, press the +<\/strong>\n\t\tbutton on an empty Part, and repeat steps 1 and 2.\n\t<\/li><\/ul>\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
How to import custom samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
To\nmake your Performance sound genuinely unique, you can import custom\nMP3, WAV, and AIFF audio files using a USB thumb drive connected to\nthe USB TO DEVICE port. Please note that the thumb drive needs to be\nin FAT format. You can either format the thumb drive on your computer\nor on the MODX itself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
- \nConnect\n\tthe USB drive to your computer and copy the audio file.\n\t<\/li>
- \nConnect\n\tthe drive to the MODX, navigate to thePerformance\n\tEdit screen, and create an Init\n\t<\/strong>Part.\n\t<\/li>
- \nPress\n\tthe Part\u2019s name, press Edit<\/strong>,\n\tand select which Element number you want to load it to. \n\t<\/li>
- \nPress\n\tSelect\n\tWaveform<\/strong>\n\tand choose the audio file you want to add. \n\t<\/li>
- \nAfter\n\tthe file is imported, go back to the Element Edit screen, and press\n\tON\n\t<\/strong>to\n\tturn on the Element.\n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
Saving a Performance<\/h3>\n\n\n\n
IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Do not power off the MODX or disconnect the USB thumb drive while the content is being saved. This can corrupt data and cause damage to the USB thumb drive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Performances\nare saved to the MODX\u2019s internal memory, which has a capacity of\n1GB. You can also save them to USB thumb drives. Whenever you perform\na factory reset or firmware update, all user-created Performances\n(and general settings) are erased, so you\u2019ll want to back up your\nPerformances beforehand. Save a Performance to the internal memory<\/h4>\n\n\n\n
- \nPress\n\tthe Utility<\/strong>\n\tor gear\n\t<\/strong>icon\n\ton the touch panel, then press Contents<\/strong>.\n\t<\/li>
- \nPress\n\tStore\/Save<\/strong>,\n\tthen Content\n\tType<\/strong>,\n\tand choose Performance<\/strong>.\n\t<\/li>
- \nPress\n\tStore\n\tAs New Performance<\/strong>,\n\tgive it a name, and press Done<\/strong>. \n<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n
