Your audio connections are all dependent on your setup and the venue.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For example, if you\u2019re only connecting your DJ\ncontroller to your computer speakers, using a short RCA cable setup of 5\u201310\nfeet is perfectly fine. However, the longer the RCA cable runs and the farther\nthe speakers (or mixer) are from you, the greater the amount of signal loss and\ninterference. If this is the case, you\u2019d need to use something like a line-level\nshifter or DI box to balance the output so you can send it longer distances\nwithout signal loss.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Before-we-begin\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Before we begin<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>DJ controllers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/whats-the-difference-between-mic-instrument-line-and-speaker-level-signals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">line-level<\/a><em> <\/em>sources, so do <strong>NOT <\/strong>connect its output to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/phono-preamp\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">phono<\/a><em> <\/em>input. Doing so will amplify an already amplified signal. It will produce a very loud, distorted sound and can damage your speakers. Also, be sure to turn everything down before connecting your DJ controller. Connecting it while the volume is up could result in loud pops and may also cause damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Booth-outputs\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Booth outputs<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Booth outputs are a second set of outputs that let you hear the same signal coming out of the mains and are an excellent feature to have on your DJ controller. If you\u2019re not next to the mains, then you\u2019re prone to delay throwing your performance off, like DJing behind the mains or in a booth where the mains are on the other side of the room. Having a speaker (or speakers) right next to you connected via the booth outs will eliminate the problem of delay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>When using booth outputs, it\u2019s best to use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c861--Unbalanced_Cables_RCA_to_XLR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">RCA to XLR<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/TRS202--hosa-trs-202-insert-cable-1-4-inch-trs-to-dual-rca-6-foot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">RCA to TS cables<\/a> to connect.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Mic-and-headphones\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Mic and headphones<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The microphone connection is pretty easy to\nunderstand. If you\u2019re going to get the crowd\nto dance while you\u2019re using a\nmic, talk into the mic at performance level during soundcheck while some tracks\nare playing so you can find the right balance between your mic and the\nmusic.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another set of levels to consider are for headphones. In our<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/getting-started-with-dj-controllers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"DJ Controller Getting Started Guide (opens in a new tab)\">DJ Controller Getting Started Guide<\/a><\/strong>, we discussed how working with headphones is essential, especially with headphone cueing. It may take a little practice finding the right level, since you\u2019ll hear two different tracks at once, but getting it just right can help you determine which song is which.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>If you can\u2019t hear anything through your headphones and you have everything routed correctly, always check the front and back of the DJ controller. There\u2019s usually a small volume knob located next to the      jack; its master volume is often overlooked and may be turned down.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Mic &amp; Aux In (day 5, 3\/3) - DJ Academy - DJControl Inpulse 500\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/thARiI_5mgE?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-center\"><strong>Mic &amp; Aux In<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Live-sound-mixer\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Live sound mixer<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#c9f0ff\"><strong>BEFORE THE GIG: <\/strong>If you know that you\u2019re playing a gig and you have to use their sound setup, call ahead and make sure you have all the right cables. Also, always include additional cables in your gig bag. The venue may not have any cables that work (or any at all), so being prepared will keep your gig on track and put your mind at ease.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you\u2019re in a live situation, you\u2019ll more\nthan likely connect to a sound mixer. Unless the sound mixer is located right\nnext to you and can convert the RCA\u2019s unbalanced signal into a balanced one,\nyou\u2019ll need a few additional pieces of gear in your gig bag:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>An <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/search.php?s=activate+di+box\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">active DI box<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/shop\/studio-recording\/audio-interfaces\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">audio interface<\/a>. This converts the unbalanced signal of your DJ controller to a balanced input on the live mixer. Passive DI boxes can also do the trick, but depending on the cable run, you might run into signal loss.<\/li><li>RCA to \u00bc-inch cable to connect <em>from <\/em>your DJ controller outputs <em>to <\/em>a DI box input.<\/li><li>Cables with connectors that match the ones you\u2019ll be plugging into on the mixer (XLR to XLR, etc.).&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>To connect your DJ controller to a live sound\nmixer, all you need to do is connect the RCA to \u00bc-inch cable from your DJ\ncontroller to a dual-channel active DI box. Next, use the XLR to XLR (or TRS to\nTRS) cables to connect to your mixer.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Most DJ controllers have built-in sound cards, but audio interfaces are preferred in live situations for better sound.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"PA-speakers\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">PA speakers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>When you\u2019re connecting directly to PA speakers, you\u2019ll need to make sure the speakers are powered. If they\u2019re powered, you can connect using the standard RCA to \u00bc-inch cable. If they\u2019re passive (meaning they don\u2019t have internal power amps), you\u2019ll first need to connect the speakers to a dedicated <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c455--Power_Amplifiers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">power amp<\/a>. If your computer speakers don\u2019t have RCA inputs, then you may need to get a few <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c861--Unbalanced_Cables_RCA_to_XLR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">RCA to XLR<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/TRS202--hosa-trs-202-insert-cable-1-4-inch-trs-to-dual-rca-6-foot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">RCA to TS cables<\/a> to connect.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Connect-to-computers\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Connect to computers<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>You just need to use the included USB cable to\nconnect the DJ controller to your computer. Once connected, you\u2019ll need to\nlaunch the DJ software, then configure the controller so it\u2019s recognized. After\nthat, you\u2019ll be all set!You may need additional drivers or updated\nfirmware for it to work correctly, so double-check the manufacturer\u2019s support\npage to see if you\u2019ll need it or not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to connections, we recommend hooking\nup your DJ controller directly to your computer and using its included power\nsupply (if applicable).
