That\u2019s why in this guide, we will show you how to register, set up, and connect the synth for the first time. This article only scratches the surface, though, so be sure to check out the <a href=\"https:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/JUNO-DS_88_76_61_eng01_W.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">owner\u2019s manual for more information<\/a>. By registering the synth, you\u2019ll gain access to Roland\u2019s product support, an extended warranty, training videos, and important updates. Follow the steps below to register.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ol><li>Log in to your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/backstage\/mygear#register_product\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>Roland Backstage account<\/strong><\/a>. With a few setting\nchanges and connections, you\u2019ll be up and running in no time. The sections\nbelow outline how to connect with external hardware and setting up on a\ncomputer. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Before-we-begin\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Before we begin:<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you need to make changes to a\nspecific setting in places like the audio I\/O, foot pedal, or MIDI menus, then you\u2019ll\nneed to navigate to the <strong>System Settings<\/strong> menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ol><li>To do this, press the <strong>MENU <\/strong>button, use the jog wheel to select <strong>SYSTEM<\/strong>, and then press <strong>ENTER<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Use the left and right arrow buttons to navigate the tabs, use the up and down arrow buttons to select the tab\u2019s settings, and use the jog wheel to update its value. <\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:20px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"External-hardware\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">External hardware<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>There are quite a few connections\non the back of the Juno-DS, so expansion is easy. When you make the audio\noutput connections, make sure the Juno-DS is turned off and that the input gain\nand master level are turned all the way down. Doing this will prevent any loud\npops, which can potentially cause harm to your gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Audio-inputs\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Audio inputs<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>There are two audio input jacks on the Juno-DS. You can connect microphones using an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c833--Unbalanced_Cables_TS_to_XLR\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">unbalanced XLR to \u00bc-inch TS cable<\/a> to the back of the Juno-DS. You can also connect external audio players, such as a mobile device, via the \u215b-inch balanced input using a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c821--Balanced_Cables_1_8_to_1_8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">balanced \u215b-inch to \u215b-inch TRS<\/a> cable. You can use the fader on the Juno-DS\u2019s left side, but you\u2019ll also want to adjust the knob on the back (located next to the MIC IN jack) to a point where the microphone isn\u2019t clipping. It may take a little time to find the right balance between the fader and knob, but this will ensure you get the best sound possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Juno-DS-input-tips\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Juno-DS input tips<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ul><li>If you\u2019re not getting any output from your microphone, then\nit means you\u2019re probably using a condenser microphone, which won\u2019t work with\nthe Juno-DS. You must use a dynamic microphone.<\/li><li>Audio from an external audio device connected to the EXT\nINPUT terminal is not fed to the USB. You can connect the main outs to a\nmixer or keyboard amp. If you\u2019re running a mono setup, make sure to use the leftoutput. The other audio output is for headphones.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Using the <strong>MASTER VOLUME<\/strong> knob\nwill increase and decrease the output from the main outs and the headphone\njacks. If you want to fine-tune levels other than just the master volume,\nyou\u2019ll need to go into the System Settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ol><li>In System Settings, use the right arrow button to navigate\nto <strong>SOUND<\/strong>, then use the down button to scroll through the sound options. <\/li><li>Update the Master Level, Output Gain, and Audio Levelso that everything is at a comfortable listening level.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Foot-pedals\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Foot pedals<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#ffe46e\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>IMPORTANT:\n<\/strong>Using\nthird-party pedals may cause malfunction or damage to the Juno-DS. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect one expression pedal and one pedal switch to the back of the Juno-DS. You must use the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/EV5--roland-ev-5-expression-pedal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Roland E<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/EV5--roland-ev-5-expression-pedal\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"V (opens in a new tab)\">V<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/EV5--roland-ev-5-expression-pedal\">-5<\/a> for the expression pedal and a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/search.php?s=roland+dp&amp;sb=score&amp;params=eyJmYWNldCI6eyJDYXRlZ29yeSI6WyI0OTgvNTA3LzUyMCJdfX0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">DP series<\/a> for the pedal switch. You can change what the pedals control by going to the Pedal tab within the System Settings menu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Check out the user manual for more information on all of <a href=\"http:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/JUNO-DS_88_76_61_eng01_W.pdf#page=16\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\"><strong>the pedal parameters you can change on the Juno-DS<\/strong><\/a>!<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"MIDI-and-USB\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">MIDI and USB<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Juno-DS allows you to connect\nexternal instruments via the MIDI and USB-B ports. Depending on your\napplication, you may need to update your MIDI settings within the System\nSettings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Suppose you\u2019re connecting the Juno-DS\nto your computer via USB. In that case, you have two options depending on what\ndriver mode you\u2019re in: you can transmit both MIDI and audio over USB, or you can\njust send MIDI over USB to your computer or an iOS device. Follow these steps\nto change the driver mode.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ol><li>Go to the System Settings and navigate to the MIDIwindow.<\/li><li>Use the <strong>Parameter<\/strong> dial to navigate to USB Driver. Select between Generic and Vendor.<ol><li><strong>Generic: <\/strong>This enables \u201c<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/class-compliant\/\" target=\"_blank\">class-compliant<\/a>\u201d mode. You will need to enter Generic mode if you want to connect to an iOS device.<\/li><\/ol><ol><li><strong>Vendor: <\/strong>This is used when you connect the Juno-DS to your computer. You will need the Juno-DS driver for it to function correctly.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><li>Power cycle the unit to apply the change.<\/li><li>If you\u2019re in Vendor mode, go to the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/us\/support\/by_product\/juno-ds88\/\" target=\"_blank\">Roland DS driver download page<\/a> to select the latest driver for your OS.<\/li><li>Install the driver, and then connect your Juno-DS to your computer.<\/li><\/ol>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h5 id=\"Important-note-for-Juno-DS-76-owners\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignCenter underline customh5 swheader\">Important note for Juno-DS 76 owners:<\/h5>\n\n\n\n<p>If you plan on connecting the DS76 to your computer, you will need to attach the included <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/ferrite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">ferrite<\/a> core to a USB cable. This helps reduce any noise caused by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/emi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">EMI<\/a> (electromagnetic interference).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ol><li>Connect the ferrite core to the end of the USB cable, which connects to the Juno-DS.<ul><li>The ferrite core should be attached approximately 10 cm from the jack.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press the two halves together until they\u2019re secured in place.
