            Connections on the Behringer 2600<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            The Behringer 2600 is a semi-modular synth<\/a>. Instead of physically inserting modules to alter the sound as you do with modular synths, you\u2019ll use patch cables<\/a> for the routing.             Front panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            The 2600 has plenty of patch points, switches, and faders that allow you to create unique synth sounds. Just changing one patch point or moving one of the faders can have a drastic impact on your sound! At its core, though, everything on the Behringer is based on basic synthesis.             Repeat<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            The Repeat switch controls how a signal is triggered when\nyou press a key down. When set to KYBD, the pulse signal will be sent\nrepeatedly (like a loop) when you hold down the key. If it\u2019s set to Off, the\nsignal will only be triggered once, like when you play a regular keyboard or\npiano. Lastly, the Auto setting will send a signal based on the 2600\u2019s LFO\nsetting. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Trig Mode<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            There are two options to select from using the Trig Mode\nswitch: Single and Mult. It\u2019s a pretty self-explanatory function. If the Trig\nMode switch is set to Single, then only one note (pulse) can be played at a\ntime (no chords). While in Mult mode, it sends notes (pulses) to all keys being\nplayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Voice<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            The Voice section is also pretty straightforward. When you\nuse this, you can control whether one (Mono) or two voices (Duo) are triggered\nat one time. If you want a simple lead sound, you\u2019ll typically need it set to Mono.\nIf you have a more complex, layered lead, or pad sound, then setting it to Duo is\nthe best choice. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Sync<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            The Sync switch gives you the ability to create some\nunique and complex sounds. When turned on, VCO 2 (and\/or VCO 3) will be\ncombined (synced)to VCO 1, which means it will behave as one big\noscillator instead of acting as two or three separate oscillators. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Range<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            When adjusting the range, you are simply adjusting the\nbase amplification to the input, which is then adjusted by theGainslider.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Time Factor<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            The Time Factor slider, located in the ADSR section,\nadjusts the duration of the envelope. This is good to adjust when you\u2019re\nlooking for a specific lead or pad sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Audio\/LF<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            The last control on the front panel we\u2019ll talk about is\nthe Audio\/LF switch. When this is set to the KYBD Off section, the keyboard\nfunctionality is disabled. When set to KYBD On, it will be enabled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            Back panel<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            The hardware connections on the back of the Behringer 2600\nare pretty basic. There is the USB port, as well as the MIDI In and Thru ports.\nThe MIDI channel must be changed using the dip switches located next to them.\nLastly, there are two 1\/4-inch jacks for footswitches. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The first footswitch is labeled \u201cPortamento.\u201d Just connect a momentary footswitch<\/a>, and you\u2019ll be able to turn the portamento on or off. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            The other footswitch is labeled \u201cInterval Latch.\u201d This allows you to turn the interval function on the Sample & Hold section of the 2600. The Sample & Hold section takes input and converts that signal to a stepped output by taking the signal at specific intervals. When you press the Interval Latch down, and if the Voice Mode is set to Duo, it will keep the two-note interval while you play additional single notes. A momentary footswitch<\/a> is recommended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            How to set up the 2600<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

            Once you\u2019ve become accustomed to all of the features and\ncontrols, it\u2019s time to get everything connected!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            MIDI<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            It\u2019s simple to incorporate the Behringer 2600 into your\nexternal synth rig using MIDI connections. It\u2019s just a matter of connecting a\ncontroller\u2019s MIDI Out to the 2600\u2019s MIDI In. If you have additional external\ngear you want to control via MIDI, just use the MIDI Thru port and connect to\nthe next device\u2019s MIDI In.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            How to change MIDI channels<\/h4>\n\n\n\n

            You\u2019ll want to change the MIDI channel on your 2600\nwhenever you want it to play an individual part. For example, you probably\nwouldn\u2019t want your drum machine triggered by a fast arpeggiator lead on your\n2600.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

            On most modern MIDI\ncontrollers, changing MIDI is done digitally, through a DAW, a standalone app,\nor a built-in menu. The Behringer, however, relies on dip switches to change\nthe MIDI channels. Here is the diagram of where the MIDI dip switch should be\nfor each channel. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

            USB<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

            The Behringer 2600 is class-compliant on both Mac and PC,\nwhich means no additional driver software is required. You\u2019ll need to connect\nyour 2600 to your computer when you need to perform firmware updates, factory\nresets, and calibrations. A great thing about the Behringer 2600 is that it can\nalso receive MIDI via USB, so you can send MIDI signals from your computer\n(i.e., a MIDI track you recorded in your DAW) and trigger the sounds of the\n2600, which you can then record as audio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
