By registering the device, you\u2019ll gain access to Roland\u2019s product support, an extended warranty, training videos, and important updates about your TR series. Follow the steps below to register and then continue to setup and configuration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Log in to your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.roland.com\/backstage\/mygear#register_product\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>Roland Backstage account<\/strong><\/a>. But if you\u2019d like, you can edit those preset samples or even import your own. It\u2019s as simple as pressing a few buttons and turning a few knobs. Let\u2019s create a kit from scratch.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Creating-a-kit\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Creating a kit<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Hold the <strong>SHIFT <\/strong>button and turn the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to <em>KIT: *069, <\/em>then press the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob down. This will select the kit.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>INST <\/strong>button to enter into the instrument edit mode and press the instrument you want to change <em>(BD, SD, LT, HC, CH, OH)<\/em>.<\/li><li>With the instrument button illuminated, press the <strong>INST <\/strong>button and use the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to scroll through the samples, then press it once you\u2019ve found the sample you want.<\/li><li>Follow step 3 until you\u2019re satisfied with your kit.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Importing-user-samples\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Importing user samples<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#ffe46e\" class=\"has-background\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Formatting SD cards will erase any current data stored, so be sure to back your files up beforehand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can import custom samples via <strong>an SDHC<\/strong> card. The samples can be 180 seconds long at 44.1 kHz and must be in the WAV or AIFF audio file format. For the SD card to work correctly and samples to be imported, it must be formatted on the TR drum machine and loaded to a specific folder. For more details, check out <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/TR-6S_Manual_eng01_W.pdf#page=29\" target=\"_blank\">page 29 of the TR-6S manual<\/a> or <a href=\"http:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/TR-8S_eng03_W.pdf#page=17\">page 17 of the TR-8S manual<\/a>!<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Insert the SD card in the device.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>UTILITY<\/strong> button and turn the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to <strong>SD CARD<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>VALUE <\/strong>knob to format the SD card.<\/li><li>Connect the SD card to your computer <em>(SD card slot or USB SD card adapter)<\/em>.<\/li><li>Go to This PC <em>(<\/em><strong><em>Windows<\/em><\/strong><em>) <\/em>or Finder <em>(<\/em><strong><em>Mac<\/em><\/strong><em>), <\/em>then open the following folders: Roland &gt; TR device &gt; Samples.<\/li><li>Import your samples. You can create a subfolder and load them there, but you cannot create a sub-sub folder.&nbsp;<ul><li>For example, you can create a folder and name it <strong>Kick Drums<\/strong>, then load your samples there. However, you cannot create the same folder, then create two others inside it labeled <strong>Electronic Kicks <\/strong>and <strong>Acoustic Kicks<\/strong> and load samples into those.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"What-are-the-letter-icons-on-the-top-of-the-display\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">What are the letter icons on the top of the display?<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Five different letter icons can be displayed on a specific sample. It\u2019s all dependent on what the sample is. This makes it easier for you to distinguish what the sample is. For example, a factory preset that uses a sample will display \u201c<strong>P S<\/strong>\u201d. It&#8217;s a straightforward process. What&#8217;s great is that it automatically quantizes when you record live, so there isn&#8217;t a need to go back and re-record. There are two ways to record: <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/TR-6S_Manual_eng01_W.pdf#page=19\" target=\"_blank\"><strong>TR-REC and INST REC<\/strong><\/a>. Both methods are simple, so you&#8217;ll have patterns recorded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"TR-REC\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">TR-REC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>TR-REC is a way to enter the steps for each instrument individually. This is useful for exact patterns. All you need to do is press the <strong>TR-REC <\/strong>button, press the instrument&#8217;s pad you want to add, then use the 16 step pads to enter your sample&#8217;s pattern.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"INST-REC\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">INST REC<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>INST REC lets you record in realtime. When you record in INST REC mode, you&#8217;ll use the first six pads to trigger the drums <em>(the instrument is located under the pad it&#8217;s associated with)<\/em>. The recording will be quantized to the closest beat automatically, so if it doesn&#8217;t hit on the step you want, you can either keep recording to overwrite or go into <strong>TR-REC <\/strong>mode to move it manually.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Playing-patterns\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft noUnderline customh2 swheader\">Playing patterns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have multiple patterns programmed, they can be played back in a few different ways. You can either chain them together, meaning they\u2019ll play in order<em> (e.g., Pattern 1 &gt; Pattern 2 &gt; Pattern 3 &gt; Pattern 4),<\/em> or you can manually switch between patterns. <em>(e.g., Pattern 1 &gt; Pattern 10 &gt; Pattern 5)<\/em><br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To play in order, press the <strong>PTN SELECT <\/strong>button to enter Pattern mode. Next, press and hold the first pattern and last pattern that you want to be played back. To play in a different order, press the first pattern, then while playing back, press the next pattern. It will then play back once the current pattern is finished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-save-kits-and-patterns\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh2 swheader\">How to save kits and patterns<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After you\u2019ve created your new kit and recorded some patterns, you can save it to your TR drum machine. Once you\u2019ve saved your kits and patterns, it\u2019s good practice to export them to your SD card. Follow these steps to <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"http:\/\/static.roland.com\/assets\/media\/pdf\/TR-6S_Manual_eng01_W.pdf#page=24\"
