Once you register your UF8, you\u2019ll gain access to the SSL 360 software, which is required to use your UF8 within your DAW. Keep your Sweetwater invoice handy, as you\u2019ll need some information from it to complete the registration process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Log into your <a href=\"https:\/\/account.solidstatelogic.com\/login\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">SSL account<\/a>. Not only that, but it\u2019s where you\u2019ll download updated versions of the software and firmware. Once you have the SSL 360 software installed, it\u2019s just a matter of connecting it to your computer and configuring it for operation inside your DAW(s). We\u2019ll cover the basics to get you up and running, but check out the <strong>SSL UF8 manual<\/strong> for in-depth information!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Hardware-connections\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Hardware connections<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SSL UF8 hardware connections are straightforward. It\u2019s essentially a plug-and-play device, so you\u2019ll be mixing in your DAW in no time. You just need to connect the UF8 to your computer via the USB-C port to an available USB-A or USB-C port on your computer.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Connecting-multiple-UF8-controllers\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Connecting multiple UF8 controllers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have more than one UF8 studio controller, you can use the <strong>THRU <\/strong>port <em>(USB-A connection)<\/em> to link them together. SSL has made it as simple as possible to do this. It\u2019s just a matter of using the first unit\u2019s <strong>THRU <\/strong><em>(USB-A) <\/em>port to connect to the USB-C port on the second unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can link up to four UF8 controllers, which will give you a maximum of 32 channels to use. If you are using this configuration, please note that your computer may run out of resources, so SSL recommends that you connect the fourth UF8 to a different USB port on your computer. If you don\u2019t have enough ports, you can also connect all UF8 controllers using a <strong><em>powered<\/em> <\/strong>USB hub.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Foot-controllers\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Foot controllers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The SSL UF8 has two foot controller connections that can trigger any DAW command or keyboard shortcut you program within the SSL 360 software. When using a footswitch, it must meet two requirements: it must be <strong>normally closed (-) <\/strong>and have a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/momentary-switch\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">momentary switch<\/a>. You can also use a footswitch with a latch\/momentary combination switch <em>(make sure it\u2019s set to momentary.)<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\"><a href=\"#Getting-started-with-the-SSL-UF8\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"button flat s blue\">Return to top<\/a> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"SSL-360-configuration\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">SSL 360 configuration<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#05629c\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-very-light-gray-color\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>The UF8 will autosave any changes you make, so you don\u2019t have to worry about losing anything if you accidentally close the software.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once your computer detects your UF8, it\u2019s time to launch the SSL 360 software to configure the UF8 to work within your DAW. You can launch the software by double-clicking the SSL 360 icon on your desktop, or you can just press the <strong>360 <\/strong>button on the UF8.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> When you first launch the software, the home page is where you\u2019ll view and update your firmware version, rearrange and identify multiple UF8\u2019s\u00a0<em>(if applicable)<\/em>, and generate error reports that you\u2019ll provide to SSL support if you\u2019re having issues. While you will use most of those options at some point, the primary window you\u2019ll want to be in is the UF8 page. This is where you\u2019ll update and edit controls, select the DAW you want to control, and more.\u00a0 <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Updating-Layers\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Updating Layers<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can store configurations for up to three DAW\u2019s at a single time, which are called <em>Layers<\/em>. This is useful in situations where you have to work in multiple DAW\u2019s.
