Setup is straight forward. Simply insert six AA batteries, turn it on, and start making drum patterns!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Use-the-correct-power-supply\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Use the correct power supply!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Korg Volca series hardware requires a <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/Korg9v1700mA--korg-volca-power-supply-9v600macpp\" target=\"_blank\">specific power supply<\/a>. Using any other brand may damage the module.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Sections-of-the-sequencer\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Sections of the sequencer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Korg Volca Beats can be broken down into three basic sections: the <em>Input &amp; Output<\/em>, <em>Step Sequencer<\/em>, and <em>Sound Controls<\/em>. Some sections have additional controls that you can access by holding down the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button, then pressing that button. If there are smaller words underneath it, that means an additional function is available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Inputs &amp; Outputs<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This is the section where you\u2019ll connect external devices via 5-pin MIDI cables or \u215b\u201d inch headphone cable to control or sync with the Volca Beats.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Step sequencer<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>This section is where you\u2019ll be entering and recording your beats. The last six steps have additional functions that you can access by holding down the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Sound controls<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The sound controls allow you to alter the pitch, decay, and attack of each drum. You can program a basic hip-hop beat or you can automate pitches of certain samples, the Volca Beats has you covered. To get you started, let\u2019s create a basic beat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Create-a-basic-beat\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Create a basic beat<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can record beats in two different ways with the Korg Volca Beats: <strong>Live <\/strong>or <strong>Step<\/strong>. When you\u2019re recording in <strong>Live <\/strong>mode, anything you perform will be recorded while it\u2019s playing. If you\u2019re in <strong>Step<\/strong> mode, it allows you to manually enter and remove individual steps. This is really useful when you need to edit a specific instrument\u2019s pattern without having to re-record.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#05629c\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-very-light-gray-color\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>If you need to edit a specific sample\u2019s pattern, press the <strong>STEP MODE <\/strong>button, then use the <strong>Part &lt; <\/strong>and <strong>&gt; <\/strong>to navigate to it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Live-recording\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Live recording<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Hold the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and press the last step button <em>(labeled ALL underneath)<\/em> to start from scratch. Make sure the display reads <strong>LIVE<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Press the step button associated with the drum you want to record.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Rec<\/strong> button to arm it, then once you\u2019re ready, press the <strong>Play<\/strong> button to begin recording.&nbsp;<ul><li>Stop recording by pressing the <strong>Play<\/strong> button again.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Once you\u2019re happy with your beat, hold the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button, press the <strong>MEMORY <\/strong>button, and select the slot to save it in.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Step-recording\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Step recording<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>While in <strong>Live <\/strong>mode, press the step button associated with the drum you want to record.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Step Mode <\/strong>button and enter the pattern.<\/li><li>Press <strong>Play<\/strong> to play the pattern back.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Once you\u2019re happy with your beat, hold the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button, press the <strong>MEMORY <\/strong>button, and select the slot to save it in.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Create-an-advanced-beat\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Create an advanced beat<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now that we\u2019ve created a basic beat, lets select the <em>Agogo<\/em> sample and automate its pitch so that a melody is created. The pitch automation is only available for the Clap, Claves, Agogo, and Crash. You can however automate the <strong>Stutter <\/strong><em>(swing)<\/em> on any sample.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Select the <em>Agogo <\/em>sample, then turn off <strong>Global Stutter <\/strong>by holding the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>and pressing the fourth to last pad. The light should turn off.<\/li><li>Press and hold the <strong>FUNC <\/strong>button, then press the pad that is labeled as <strong>Speed<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Start recording and use the <strong>PCM Speed<\/strong> knob to begin automation.
