So in this guide, we&#8217;ll show you how to set up and connect the Carbon for the first time. Follow the sections below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><a href=\"#How-to-set-up-and-connect-the-Pro-Tools-Carbon\"><strong>How to set up and connect the Pro Tools | Carbon<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><a href=\"#How-to-set-up-the-routing-within-Pro-Tools\"><strong>How to set up the routing within Pro Tools<\/strong><\/a><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#How-to-set-up-the-monitors\">How to set up the monitors<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Before-you-set-up-your-Pro-Tools-Carbon\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Before you set up your Pro Tools | Carbon<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are a few necessary things you&#8217;ll need in order to get up and running with your Pro Tools | Carbon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Cat5e cable or better <em>(Avid recommends using the cable provided)<\/em><\/li><li>An available Ethernet port or AVB compatible adapter <em>(<\/em><a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/TBtoEthernet--apple-thunderbolt-to-gigabit-ethernet-adapter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><em>Apple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter<\/em><\/a><em>)<\/em>.\u00a0<ul><li>Please note that most Ethernet adapters don&#8217;t support AVB.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>A Mac running macOS 10.15.6 or higher.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/li><li>Pro Tools version 2020.11 or higher.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"How-to-set-up-and-connect-the-Pro-Tools-Carbon\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft noUnderline customh2 swheader\">How to set up and connect the Pro Tools | Carbon<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Once you&#8217;ve registered your Carbon, it&#8217;s time to get it integrated into your studio setup. We&#8217;ll cover the basics on how first to connect it to your computer and then how to set up the routing within Pro Tools.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To connect the Pro Tools | Carbon to your computer, you&#8217;ll need to use the included Ethernet cable and connect it to an Ethernet port on your computer, then update the system&#8217;s network and sound settings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Connect an Ethernet cable <em>(or Ethernet cable to a <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/TBtoEthernet--apple-thunderbolt-to-gigabit-ethernet-adapter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\"><em>certified Apple Thunderbolt to Ethernet adapter<\/em><\/a><em>) <\/em>from Carbon to your computer.&nbsp;<ul><li>The Carbon <em>MUST <\/em>be connected directly to the computer, not through Ethernet switches or hubs.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Go to your <strong>Network settings<\/strong>, and check to make sure it&#8217;s connected. It should be orange with a self-assigned IP.<\/li><li>Open <strong>Audio MIDI Setup<\/strong>, click <strong>Window<\/strong>, then select <strong>Show Network Device Browser<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Click the <strong>checkbox <\/strong>next to the Carbon. The <em>NET LED<\/em> located above the power button on the Carbon should illuminate.<\/li><li>After the <em>NET LED<\/em> illuminates, two sets of audio I\/O will appear in both the <em>Audio MIDI setup<\/em> window and the System Sound Preferences: <em>Pro Tools Carbon<\/em> and <em>Pro Tools Carbon: Reserved for Pro Tools<\/em>. After that, you&#8217;ll be ready to record!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<ol><li>Launch Pro Tools, Click<strong> Setup<\/strong>, navigate to <strong>Playback Engine<\/strong>, then change the Playback Engine to <strong>Pro Tools Carbon<\/strong>. If there&#8217;s a firmware update, it will be applied at this time.<\/li><li>Click the <strong>Hardware <\/strong>tab to view the Carbon&#8217;s miscellaneous controls such as monitoring, Line in gain, Line out reference level.<\/li><li>Navigate to the I\/O settings, and check that all input and output channels are routed correctly.<ul><li>The colored boxes in the <em>Output <\/em>indicate which outputs are currently in use.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Click the Bus tab and confirm that all of the output buses are routed correctly. B and C can be enabled by going to the <em>Hardware Setup<\/em> window, then check the boxes <strong><em>Alt 1 (LINE 1-2)<\/em><\/strong> and <strong><em>Alt 2 (LINE 3-4)<\/em><\/strong>. These are assigned to hardware connections on the D&#8217;Sub <strong><em>LINE OUT 1-8 (ALT)<\/em> <\/strong>connector on the unit&#8217;s back. Here are a few monitor setup tips to get you up and running.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>To switch between the speaker setups, press the <strong>A<\/strong>, <strong>B<\/strong>, and <strong>C <\/strong>buttons on the front.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The <strong><em>Main <\/em><\/strong>and <strong><em>Alt 1<\/em><\/strong><em> <\/em>monitor setups are assigned to the <em>Main Mix <\/em>output.<\/li><li>If the third pair of monitor setups <strong><em>(Alt 2)<\/em><\/strong> isn&#8217;t being used, you can assign them as a standard output for routing in the I\/O setup menu.<\/li><li>When selected, use the jog wheel to adjust the volume.
