Once you register the DR-40X, you\u2019ll get exclusive support and notifications for upgrades to your interface. Keep your Sweetwater invoice handy, as you\u2019ll need that during the registration process. It\u2019s important to note that initializing an SD card will erase any current data.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>With the DR-40X powered off, insert the SD card.&nbsp;<ul><li>Ensure that the <em>Write Protection<\/em> switch is set to the unlocked position, or else it won\u2019t read.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press the <strong>ENTER\/MARK<\/strong> button once you see <em>Format Error: Format Card<\/em> on the display.<\/li><li>Once the SD card is formatted, you will automatically be taken back to the <em>Home <\/em>screen.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"External-gear-and-built-in-microphone\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">External gear and built-in microphone<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p style=\"background-color:#05629c\" class=\"has-text-color has-background has-very-light-gray-color\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>If you\u2019re using the built-in mics and are recording in an <strong>A-B <\/strong>position <em>(the mics are pointing out),<\/em> set the left and right channels to <strong>L-R<\/strong>. If using them in an <strong>X-Y <\/strong>pattern, set the left and right channels to <strong>R-L<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Once everything is taken care of, you can now get set up and connected. It\u2019s a straightforward process, too. Just connect your external gear, adjust the built-in microphone, use the <strong>EXT <\/strong>switch to select what type of input you\u2019re using <em>(Line, Mic, Mic+Phantom)<\/em>, then start recording!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:5px aria-hidden=\" true\"=\"\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-right\">      <a href=\"#Getting-started-with-the-TASCAM-DR-40X\" target=\"_blank\" class=\"button flat s blue\">Return to top<\/a>      <\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Recording-with-the-DR-40X\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft noUnderline customh2 swheader\">Recording with the DR-40X<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>So now that you\u2019re ready to record, you can update the recording and playback settings. Depending on what and how you\u2019re recording, you may need to fine tune these to make it sound as best as possible. Before showing you how to record, you\u2019ll need to learn what recording mode you should choose. To change the record mode, press the <strong>REC MODE <\/strong>button and use the <strong>+ <\/strong>and <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>buttons to select one of the following record modes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><em>MONO<\/em>: For mono recordings.<\/li><li><em>STEREO<\/em>: For stereo recordings.<\/li><li><em>4CH<\/em>: When using both built-in mics as well as the two external inputs.<\/li><li><em>OVERDUB<\/em>: For recording over current recordings.<br><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\u201dpadding: 10px;\u201d>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Press the <strong>MENU <\/strong>button, navigate to <strong>REC SETTING<\/strong>, then update the <em>Format<\/em>, <em>Sample<\/em>, <em>Track INC<\/em>, and <em>Low Cut<\/em>.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>MENU <\/strong>button to apply the changes and go back to the <strong>MENU <\/strong>screen.&nbsp;<ul><li>Press the <strong>STOP (HOME)<\/strong> button to go back to the home screen.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button to arm the recording. Now is when you\u2019ll want to check and update your levels.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button a second time to begin recording. The DR-40X is class-compliant on Mac, but Windows users must install an audio driver beforehand so the device can work properly.
