When you register the device, you\u2019ll gain access to software downloads and a coupon code for 40 free drum lessons from <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/melodics.com\/landing\/partners\/alesis\/drums\" target=\"_blank\">Melodics<\/a>. Keep your Sweetwater invoice handy, as you will need to enter the purchase date. The cables on the wiring harness are labeled, so make sure that each cable is plugged into the correct corresponding drum or cymbal pad to trigger the right sound. Also, be sure that the connection to the module is secured in place.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Connecting-additional-pads-and-cymbals\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Connecting additional pads and cymbals<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you want to expand your Surge kit, two additional connections are located on the back of the module: one for a tom and one for a cymbal. When using a TRS cable, the module will support dual-zone pads <em>(i.e., a cymbal pad with a crash and bell or choke feature)<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>TIP: <\/strong>When connecting your pads to the module, use the included velcro cable straps to secure them to the Surge\u2019s drum rack. All you need is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/search.php?s=usb+b+to+a\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">USB A- B cable<\/a> to connect it. The Surge is class-compliant on both Mac and PC, so no additional driver software is necessary. This includes the <em>Utility <\/em>settings <em>(i.e., sensitivity, threshold)<\/em>, <em>Kit <\/em>settings, and <em>Pad <\/em>settings. To change these settings, press the <strong>Kit <\/strong>button, then press the <strong>Page\/Select<\/strong> button until you get to the setting you wish to change. Once selected, use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the setting as necessary. You can also change the MIDI note number if you\u2019re using the Surge along with an external synth or virtual instrument.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Hit the pad whose settings you want to adjust. Alternatively, press the pad\u2019s button located on the module.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Voice <\/strong>button, then press the <strong>Page\/Select<\/strong> button until you get to the setting you wish to change. This will adjust whether or not the selected song starts playing when you hit that particular pad.<\/li><li><strong>P-N***<\/strong>: Pad song number. If the <strong>P-S <\/strong>is turned on, this will select the song number that will play will play when the selected pad is hit.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"How-to-save-your-Surge-kit-settings\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">How to save your Surge kit settings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>While you can\u2019t overwrite any of the factory kits, you can save updated kits into a <em>User <\/em>slot. All you need to do is press <strong>Save<\/strong>, use the left and right arrow to select the <em>User <\/em>slot where you want the kit, then press <strong>Save<\/strong> one more time.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Utility-settings\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Utility settings<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The <em>Utility <\/em>settings allow you to change things such as the sensitivity, threshold, and crosstalk of individual pads. These settings are essential to adjust since every drummer&#8217;s technique is different. If you&#8217;re having triggering issues, these are the first things to look at, as well.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Hit the pad whose settings you want to adjust. Alternatively, press the pad\u2019s button located on the module.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Voice <\/strong>button, then press the <strong>Page\/Select<\/strong> button until you get to the setting you wish to change. Once selected, use the left and right arrow buttons to adjust the setting as necessary.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Utility-settings-you-can-adjust\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Utility settings you can adjust<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li><strong>SEN <\/strong><em>(Sensitivity)<\/em>: Changes the responsiveness of a pad when you hit it. The higher the value, the less forcefully you need to play to generate a loud hit.<\/li><li><strong>THR<\/strong><em> (Threshold)<\/em>: Changes how hard you have to hit the pad to generate a sound. The higher the value, the harder you have to hit it.<\/li><li><strong>CRO <\/strong><em>(Crosstalk)<\/em>: Determines the &#8220;ghost&#8221; triggering of a pad when an adjacent pad is hit. If you hit a pad and it&#8217;s triggering others, you&#8217;ll want to increase it.<\/li><li><strong>CUR <\/strong><em>(Velocity curve)<\/em>: Controls the pad&#8217;s dynamic response based on how hard you hit the pad. Check out the Owner&#8217;s Manual for a <a href=\"https:\/\/7132afa424c2f1a2ab6d-54d68a14e2e7c1f76563a2d8c3e9fd82.ssl.cf2.rackcdn.com\/1864\/documents\/Surge%20Drum%20Module%20-%20User%20Guide%20-%20v1.2.pdf#page=38&amp;zoom=100,0,0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">list of the velocity curves<\/a>.<\/li><li><strong>R-S<em> <\/em><\/strong><em>(Rim sensitivity)<\/em>: Controls the responsiveness of a pad&#8217;s rim when you hit it.<\/li><li><strong>S-S<em> <\/em><\/strong><em>(Hi-Hat &#8220;splash&#8221; sensitivity)<\/em>: Controls how responsive the hi-hat &#8220;splash&#8221; effect is when you hit the pedal. The splash effect is when you quickly close and open the hi-hat pedal.<\/li><li><strong>LOC <\/strong><em>(Local Mode)<\/em>: Changes whether or not the pads will trigger the module&#8217;s sounds. It should be set to <strong>ON <\/strong>if you&#8217;re playing around, want to use the module&#8217;s sounds, and aren&#8217;t connected to a computer or external MIDI device.<\/li><li><strong>GM <\/strong><em>(General MIDI Mode)<\/em>: If this is turned on, the module will use generic MIDI percussion sounds.
