Follow the instructions below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li><strong><a href=\"#Back-up-data\">Back up data<\/a><\/strong><\/li><li><strong><a href=\"#Perform-a-factory-reset\">Perform a factory reset<\/a><\/strong><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Back-up-data\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft noUnderline customh2 swheader\">Back up data<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The RD-8 uses SysEx messages to send and receive data to and from your computer. It requires the use of third-party software such as <strong><a aria-label=\"SysEx Librarian (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/how-do-i-send-and-receive-sysex-on-pc-or-mac\/#SysEx-MIDI-files-on-Mac\" target=\"_blank\">SysEx Librarian<\/a><\/strong> on Mac or <strong><a aria-label=\"MIDI-OX (opens in a new tab)\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/how-do-i-send-and-receive-sysex-on-pc-or-mac\/#SysEx-MIDI-files-on-PC\" target=\"_blank\">MIDI-OX<\/a><\/strong> on PC. To back up your patterns, songs, and settings, you need to send a manual dump of the data. It works similarly to the Save operation on the RD-8, but instead, it will send the selected data as a SysEx message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Connect your RD-8 to your computer and launch the MIDI utility app for your OS. (SysEx Librarian on Mac, MIDI-OX on PC).<\/li><li>Press the <strong>DUMP <\/strong>button and then press the <strong>TAP\/HOLD <\/strong>button to switch to USB.&nbsp;<ul><li>If your device is connected to a MIDI interface, leave it set to <strong>MIDI<\/strong>.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Select the data you wish to back up <em>(song, pattern, settings) <\/em>and press the <strong>DUMP <\/strong>button to send the SysEx message. The procedure takes approximately 30 seconds. Be sure not to turn the unit off during the reset, as this may result in corrupting internal data. Follow these steps to perform a factory reset.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Press the <strong>Settings <\/strong>button.&nbsp;<\/li><li>Hold Tap\/Hold and press step key 16.
