That means you just need to install the software and connect your interface to get up and running. Go to the M-series start page to register your interface\u2019s serial number, download the driver software, and watch the tutorial videos. Once done, continue below to <a href=\"#Connect-to-your-computer\">connect to your computer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Go to MOTU\u2019s login page and create an account or log in with your current one.<\/li><li>Go to your account\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/motu.com\/en-us\/accounts\/registrations\/\" target=\"_blank\">registrations<\/a> page and click <strong>Register a Product<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Enter your interface\u2019s serial number, complete the form, and click <strong>Save<\/strong>.<ul><li>Find the serial number on the bottom of the device or the side of its box.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><li>Click the links under <strong>Included software and loops<\/strong> to download MOTU Performer Lite, Ableton Live Lite, and the bundled loops and sounds.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"M series: how to register\" width=\"620\" height=\"349\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pssVOEgN968?wmode=transparent&amp;rel=0&amp;feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n\n\n<h2 id=\"Connect-to-your-computer\" style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 240%; font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">Connect to your computer<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The M2 and M4 interfaces are USB bus-powered, which means they receive power from their USB connection. Connect them directly to your computer with the included USB-C to USB-A cable. If your computer does not have a USB-A port, you will need to use a USB-C to USB-C cable or a USB-A to USB-C adapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>USB hubs are great for connecting additional devices to your computer but are often unable to supply enough power to each device. Passive hubs that don\u2019t have their own power adapter are considered bus-powered and distribute the computer\u2019s USB power to the connected devices. This can underpower your devices and prevent them from connecting. USB hubs that come with their own power adapter are recommended so that enough power is supplied when connecting bus-powered devices like your M-series interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"OS-compatibility\" style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 160%; font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">OS compatibility<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The M-Series interfaces are compatible with Windows 7, 8, 10 and macOS 10.11+. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Power-switch\" style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 160%; font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">Power switch<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Bus-powered audio interfaces often don\u2019t have a power switch, but your M-Series audio interface does <em>(that\u2019s pretty cool)<\/em>. If it doesn\u2019t power on along with your computer, just flip the power switch to the on position. You can also turn it off to save battery power while connected to a laptop or tablet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Class-compliant-for-macOS\" style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 160%; font-weight: bold; color: #333333;\">Class compliant for macOS<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>MOTU M-series interfaces can connect to Mac computers using the native macOS audio class drivers. While you do not need to install any additional driver software to connect, the MOTU M-Series Driver reduces the round trip latency and enables the stereo loopback inputs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>M-series interfaces are class-compliant and do not require additional drivers for Mac.<\/li><li>Install the <strong>MOTU M-Series Driver<\/strong> for improved round trip latency and stereo loopback feature <em>(M2)<\/em>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Install-driver-software\" style=\"text-align: left; font-size: 200%; font-weight: bold; color: #143B74;\">Install driver software<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#fff5c7\"><strong>IMPORTANT!<\/strong><br>Windows sets the default playback device to Output Channels <strong>3 &amp; 4 <\/strong>on M4 interfaces. You will need to go into Windows Sound Settings and manually change the default output to Channels <strong>1 &amp; 2<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You need to download and install the MOTU M-Series driver in order to connect with a Windows PC. The interface won\u2019t be able to connect without it. Mac computers do not require driver installation, but it is recommended for the lowest round trip latency and stereo loopback inputs. Windows and macOS operating systems have sound settings which apply to most applications, but DAWs like Performer Lite and Live Lite have their own settings and are configured independently. Follow the sections below to configure the sound settings with your M-Series interface.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>NOTE<\/strong>: Outputs 3-4 on M4 interfaces are not controlled by the master volume knob.
