By registering the Montage, you\u2019ll access <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/products\/music_production\/synthesizers\/montage\/sound_library.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">free sound libraries<\/a> and a free Cubase AI license. Follow these steps to go through the Yamaha product registration process. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Log in to your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.yamaha.com\/paragon\/myaccount\/myaccountcontrol.html\" target=\"_blank\">Yamaha account<\/a>. Setting up is easy as well, so you can start making music sooner. Follow the sections below for instructions on how to calibrate the touch panel, connect audio\/MIDI cables, and also connect to a computer and iOS devices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Calibrate-the-touch-panel\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Calibrate the touch panel<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The touch panel will work right away, but you may need to recalibrate it for the best response possible. Without calibrating the touch panel, you may run into issues such as \u201cghost pressing\u201d or inaccuracy. Follow these steps to calibrate the touch panel.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Press the <strong>Utility <\/strong>button or the <strong>cog <\/strong>icon on the touch panel.<\/li><li>Press <strong>Settings<\/strong>, navigate to <strong>System<\/strong> and then select <strong>Calibrate Touch Panel<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Touch the white squares that appear to complete the calibration.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Hardware\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Hardware<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are quite a few ways to connect external devices to your Montage. When making any audio connections, be sure the Montage is powered off and have the input gain and master volume turned all the way down. Doing this prevents any sudden pops, which may cause damage to the external gear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"A-D-input\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">A\/D input<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p> You can connect audio equipment such as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/shop\/studio-recording\/microphones\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">microphone<\/a>, external <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/c510--Synthesizers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">synthesizer<\/a>, or CD player via TRS cables. The signal is then sent through the Montage where you can adjust various parameters such as effects, volume, and panning. The audio <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/signal\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">signal<\/a> is then sent out along with the selected sound of the Montage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Press the <strong>A\/D INPUT <\/strong>button to enable the input signal.<\/li><li>Depending on the device connected to the A\/D Input, navigate to the <strong>Audio I\/O <\/strong>tab in the <em>Settings <\/em>menu to change the input between <strong>Mic <\/strong>and <strong>Line<\/strong>.<\/li><li>A\/D settings are adjusted via the <strong>Audio In <\/strong>routing page within the <strong>Monitor Volume <\/strong>menu.&nbsp;<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Outputs\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Outputs<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are three types of outputs available on the Yamaha Montage; <em>Main <\/em>outputs which are for balanced outputs such as monitor speakers, USB outputs, and also balanced <em>Assignable <\/em>outputs. Assignable and USB outputs are independent of the Mains, which allow you to assign specific parts or instruments to an external audio effect.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>While on the <strong>Performance <\/strong>screen, select the part you wish to send to the <em>Assignable <\/em>output, press <strong>Edit<\/strong>, and then change the <em>Part Output <\/em>from <em>MainL&amp;R<\/em> to <em>AsgnL&amp;R<\/em>, <em>AsgnL, <\/em>or <em>AsgnR<\/em>.<\/li><li>Change the Output gain for the Main, Assignable, and USB outputs by going to<strong> Audio I\/O <\/strong>in the <em>Settings <\/em>menu.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Footswitch\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Footswitch<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Yamaha Montage has four footswitch jacks which you can connect. There are two sets; <strong>Assignable\/Sustain <\/strong>and <strong>Footswitch 1 \/2. <\/strong>Depending on which input the footswitch is connected to, you can assign it to control a particular assignable function or also control specific functions for each part.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>It\u2019s recommended to use an <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC7--yamaha-fc7-volume-expression-pedal\" target=\"_blank\">FC7<\/a> footswitch to control the Super Knob (<em>Footswitch 1 \/2 jack) <\/em>and an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC3A--yamaha-fc3a-piano-style-sustain-pedal-with-half-damper-control\">F<\/a><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"C (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC3A--yamaha-fc3a-piano-style-sustain-pedal-with-half-damper-control\" target=\"_blank\">C<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC3A--yamaha-fc3a-piano-style-sustain-pedal-with-half-damper-control\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">3<\/a>, <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC4A--yamaha-fc4a-sustain-pedal-foot-switch\" target=\"_blank\">FC4<\/a>, or <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/FC5--yamaha-fc5-foot-switch\" target=\"_blank\">FC5<\/a> pedal connected to the <em>Assignable\/Sustain <\/em>jack.<\/li><li>To change Performances with the use of an FC4 or FC5 footswitch, navigate to the <strong>MIDI I\/O <\/strong>page within the <em>Settings <\/em>menu, and change <strong>FC Assign <\/strong>to <em>Live Set+\/-<\/em>.<\/li><li>For a full list of which parameters can be controlled by a footswitch, visit the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/files\/download\/other_assets\/9\/812529\/montage_en_rm_a0.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">Montage Reference Manual<\/a>.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"MIDI\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">MIDI<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You can connect the Yamaha Montage to and from external devices such as a synthesizer or keyboard via 5-pin MIDI cables. With MIDI devices connected, you can also split the sound between the Montage and an external synth. Visit the <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/files\/download\/other_assets\/7\/812097\/montage_en_om_b0.pdf#page=58\" target=\"_blank\">User Manual<\/a> to learn how to assign each signal to a different output.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Make sure that the MIDI transmit and receive channels from the external synthesizer or keyboard are set to the same channel on the Montage.&nbsp;<\/li><li>The MIDI transmit and receive channels are automatically assigned to each part, so MIDI channel 1 will be assigned to Part 1.<\/li><li>You can turn the MIDI Transmit and Receive off and on within the <strong>MIDI I\/O <\/strong>page within the settings menu.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Computer\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Computer<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Montage integrates with your <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/insync\/daw\/\" target=\"_blank\">DAW<\/a> seamlessly. Connecting a USB cable from the device to a computer turns the Montage into an audio interface, transmitting MIDI, so there&#8217;s no need to connect the Montage to a MIDI interface. You&#8217;ll first need to download the Yamaha driver and Montage Connect from the Montage downloads page. Follow these steps to connect your Montage to a computer. If you have an iOS recording app such as <strong>Cubasis <\/strong>or <strong>Studio One Remote<\/strong>, you can also record it. Follow these steps to connect your iOS device. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Download and install the Soundmondo iOS app <a href=\"https:\/\/apps.apple.com\/us\/app\/soundmondo-us\/id1035365526\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">here<\/a>.<\/li><li>Connect a USB cable from the <strong>USB HOST<\/strong> port on the Montage to an official <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/LightCamera--apple-lightning-to-usb-camera-adapter\" target=\"_blank\">Apple Lighting to USB Camera Adapter<\/a> connected to your iOS device.<\/li><li>Launch the app to pair the devices. Both the Performance selection and Performance control work in tandem with what\u2019s displayed on the touch panel. That means any change you make using the knobs and buttons on the device can also be changed via the touch panel. These are broken down into three sections; Part\/Performance selection, <a href=\"https:\/\/usa.yamaha.com\/files\/download\/other_assets\/7\/812097\/montage_en_om_b0.pdf#page=35\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">Motion Sequencer<\/a>, and Arpeggiation selection. Most of the buttons also have an alternate function by holding the shift button.
