You can use SD cards with a 32GB storage capacity. If it is larger than 32GB, the card will not be recognized. For a full list of compatible SD cards please visit Zoom\u2019s <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.zoom-na.com\/sites\/default\/files\/products\/downloads\/pdfs\/H4n_H4nPro_compatible_cards_en_4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">compatibility list<\/a> and also check out the H4n manual. Follow these steps to format the Zoom H4n SD card.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffe46e\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Formatting an SD card erases all data, so be sure to back up any important files before formatting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\"padding: 10px;\">\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Insert the SD card and wait for the card to be recognized by the device. It may take a few moments.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>Menu <\/strong>button, and use the dial wheel to scroll down to <strong>SD CARD<\/strong>.<\/li><li>Press the dial wheel to enter the <strong>SD CARD <\/strong>menu, select <strong>FORMAT<\/strong>, and then select <strong>YES<\/strong>.<ul><li>If you insert the SD card before turning the unit on for the first time, you will receive a message asking if you would like to format the card. Simply select <strong>YES <\/strong>with the dial wheel, and press it to format the card.<\/li><\/ul><\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Why-isn-t-my-SD-card-being-recognized-on-the-Zoom-H4n\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Why isn&#8217;t my SD card being recognized on the Zoom H4n?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you receive a <em>No Card<\/em> error when inserting the SD card, Check the security tab on each of the SD cards. If the switch is set to protected mode then the card is locked, it won\u2019t be read. If you are using a MicroSD card with an adapter, be sure that the MicroSD card is inserted all the way. Either directly to the SD card, or it can be used as a standard audio interface to record audio into a DAW. Depending on the application you\u2019ll want to choose one over the other, but you\u2019ll first want to set the levels. If the levels aren\u2019t set properly on your Zoom H4n Pro before recording, the audio can begin to clip or be too quiet.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Recording-to-an-SD-card\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader darkBlueHeader alignLeft underline customh3 swheader\">Recording to an SD card<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#ffe46e\"><strong>IMPORTANT: <\/strong>Be sure to set the level of the mics before recording on your Zoom H4n Pro. Press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button once so it flashes, and then use the <em>Rec Level <\/em><strong>+ <\/strong>and <strong>&#8211; <\/strong>buttons to adjust the microphone level.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>You have three different modes you can select when recording directly to an SD card; <em>Stereo<\/em>, <em>Four-Channel<\/em>, or <em>Multitrack<\/em>. Switching between these modes make it easy for when you need to record a single audio source like a sound effect, or if you need to record your band rehearsal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li> Files are saved into folders, which you can access by pressing the <strong>FOLDER <\/strong>button underneath the display. If you want to change where the file is recorded, press the <strong>FOLDER <\/strong>button then use the dial wheel to select the new destination folder. <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-group has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f2f1f0\"><div class=\"wp-block-group__inner-container\">\n<div style=\"padding: 10px;\">\n\n\n\n<ol><li>Press the <strong>MENU <\/strong>button, use the dial wheel to navigate to <strong>MODE<\/strong>, and then press it.<\/li><li>Select <em>Stereo<\/em>, <em>4CH<\/em>, or <em>MTR <\/em>and then press the dial wheel to change the record mode.<\/li><li>Select the input source by pressing the <strong>Mic <\/strong><em>(the H4n Pro\u2019s built-in microphone)<\/em>, <strong>1<\/strong>, or <strong>2 <\/strong>button on the side.<\/li><li>Press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button to arm the device for recording then press the <strong>RECORD <\/strong>button again to begin. Press <strong>STOP <\/strong>once you\u2019ve completed the recording.<\/li><\/ol>\n\n\n\n<\/div>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Phantom-power\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Phantom power<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are connecting an external condenser microphone via the XLR combo jack, you will need to enable <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/sweetcare\/articles\/what-is-phantom-power\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\">phantom power<\/a>. To do this, press <strong>MENU<\/strong>, navigate to <strong>INPUT<\/strong>, then <strong>PHANTOM<\/strong>, and select <strong>+24v <\/strong>or <strong>+48v<\/strong>. Setting the phantom power to +<strong>24v <\/strong>will decrease battery consumption, but condenser microphones may not work as well as they should.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:10px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"Plug-in-power\" class=\"wp-block-cgb-block-customheader blackHeader alignLeft underline customh4 swheader\">Plug-in power<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If you are using an electret condenser microphone which is connected via the \u215b\u201d connector on the back of the unit (such as a camera-mounted microphone), you will also need to engage <em>plug-in power <\/em>from the <strong>INPUT <\/strong>menu. The device is class-compliant on Mac computers, meaning no additional driver software is required. PC users, however, must download and install the H4n ASIO driver before connecting it, which can be found on the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.zoom-na.com\/products\/field-video-recording\/field-recording\/h4n-pro-handy-recorder#downloads\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\"> Zoom H4n download page<\/a>. You can apply effects, turn the tuner on or off, and also toggle input monitoring, <a href=\"#Phantom-power\">phantom power<\/a>, and <a href=\"#Plug-in-power\">plug-in power<\/a>.
