Each Helix device was built with flexibility in mind, so we encourage you to experiment with your signal path until you find your favorite setup. Follow each of the sections below to get started.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-background\" style=\"background-color:#f3f2f1\"><strong>User manual and Pilots Guides<\/strong>: While similar, each Line 6 Helix device is unique operates a bit differently. While the type of amp <em>(tube vs. solid state)<\/em> and whether or not it has an effects loop will affect how you set up, what matters more is that you\u2019re able to create the sound which makes you play and sound your best. For example, one touring guitarist might not use an amp at all and instead connects directly to the PA system to save time <em>(and energy)<\/em>. Another guitarist might need to bring their amp(s) on the road, and thus use the four or seven cable method to get the right tone. Follow the sections below to connect directly to an <a href=\"#Connect-directly-to-an-amplifier\">amplifier<\/a>, to an <a href=\"#Connect-to-an-effects-loop\">effects loop<\/a>, or to a <a href=\"#Connect-to-a-mixer-or-PA-system\">mixer or PA system<\/a>. Continue further below to learn about <a href=\"#Connecting-to-a-computer\">connecting Helix devices to a computer<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"HX-Effects:-effects-only\">HX Effects: effects only<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The Line 6 HX Effects processor is the only Helix device which does not include preamp, amplifier, or cabinet blocks. That\u2019s because it\u2019s designed with a different purpose: add Helix effects to your favorite amp. HX Effects connects perfectly to your amp\u2019s effects loop, and can even connect additional pedals to its own Send\/Return jacks. Even if you want to connect with four cable method <em>(<a aria-label=\" (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"#Connect-to-an-effects-loop\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">below<\/a>)<\/em>, you still have an extra Send\/Return loop for connecting your favorite pedal(s).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 id=\"Connect-directly-to-an-amplifier\">Connect directly to an amplifier<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The simplest way to connect a Line 6 Helix to your amp is just like any other pedal: plug the guitar into Helix and Helix into the amp. It may sound easy, but remember that guitar amp inputs are expecting an instrument level signal, and sending a signal that\u2019s already been amplified by Helix will end up sounding really loud. Use a low gain setting on the amp\u2019s preamp, or bypass the Helix amp\/cab when connecting this way. Connecting a Helix processor to the front of your amp is still practical because you can connect your favorite pedals to the Send\/Return jacks and access them with the Send\/Return block. This is particularly useful for driving tube amps with boost, overdrive, or distortion pedals.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Use-different-preamps-with-your-amp's-power-amplifier\">Use different preamps with your amp&#8217;s power amplifier<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Line 6 Helix processors <em>(HX Effects excluded)<\/em> have built-in amp and cab models. That means if you played the sound through a full range speaker, it will emulate and sound exactly like that particular amp and cab. But what if you don\u2019t have a full range speaker and want to use your amp, how do you bypass the amp\u2019s preamplifier tone so that you accurately reproduce the amp model? If your amp has an effects loop, just connect to the return\/power amp in jack. That means the guitar will pass through the preamp before entering the FX loop and your Helix processor. This is different than just connecting Helix in-between your guitar and amp because Helix effects will apply to your \u201cpreamp tone\u201d rather than the preamp being applied to the \u201cHelix tone\u201d.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Four-cable-method\">Four cable method<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Get the most out of an amp with an effects loop by using the four cable method. The four cable method is essentially connecting your amp\u2019s preamplifier to a Helix effects loop, which allows you to access the amp\u2019s preamp via a Send\/Return block. You can even move the block throughout the signal path or bypass it completely to use one of the many Helix preamplifier tones.&nbsp;<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 id=\"Seven-cable-method\">Seven cable method<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>If you have two amplifiers with effects loops, you can connect them both to Helix Send\/Returns <em>(HX Stomp requires <a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"stereo breakout (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sweetwater.com\/store\/detail\/YPP117--hosa-ypp-117-stereo-breakout-1-4-inch-trs-to-dual-1-4-inch-tsf-6-inch\" target=\"_blank\">stereo breakout<\/a>)<\/em>. When connecting to a DI box, mixer, or monitor speaker, check that you\u2019re using a compatible Helix output level appropriate for what you\u2019re connecting to. For example, DI boxes take instrument or line level down to microphone, perfect for connecting to a mixer&#8217;s channel and preamp.
